It really is a miracle that their children were able to return. The government is usurping more and more powers every day. Unelected beurocrats and do gooders are demanding more and more of our rights. We need to stick together as americans and say enough is enough!! I feel like I am living in the Ayn Rand Novel "Atlas Shrugged". Get involved people read the constitution. I knew as soon as they took those kids that this was going to come back to embarrass the state of Texas, and it has. Why do all people of America have to live like the government wants you to. I am not part of this religion and consider myself a constitutionalist. Please if you love our country and value the constitution the time is now to make a stand. Write all of your representitives and say no to all the money they are giving away. Say no to a one world currency. Say no to Timothy Gitner trying to usurp the powers of congress. Say no to him having the power to shut down American companies because they are too big. The time is now. Make your voice heard!!

I don't have any sympathy for a culture that condones child brides.

SICK!!!! I feel ill t my stomach that these poor children were sent back to possibly endure further abuse of ANY kind.

At least they teach their children to work! Their kids aren't lazy laying in front of TV and video games like the rest of the country!

If my memory is correct, wasn't a few of the men arrested and charged with sexual abuse based from the DNA tests?? This isn't about religion, its all about sex and power. It's illegal in Texas as its illegal in Utah.

The devils own....

These polygamist men have NO SOULS!

To the Deseret News Editor

I find I am tired of this topic. Why are we still talking about this situation a year later--the problem is not even in our state. Let's find other news of value in our own community to focus on. Thanks.

why are these people getting press? if i were some outsider reading the deseret news i would think that the church headquartered in salt lake fully supports what's going on at YFZ in texas. could we please make a distinction???

A happy, sweet community?

It's amazing that everyone is so happy and smiling in every picture. A friend's daughter lives in Colorado City. Her mother (a non-polygamist) went to help her 24-year-old after the birth of her fourth child. When they went to the local grocery store, her daughter said, "Mom, they're going to code red you, just ignore them." Sure enough, a code was called over the intercom of the store, and every single person this "outsider" passed physically shielded the eyes of their children. Outsiders aren't just feared--they are the root of all evil.

PLEASE read the book ESCAPE! by Carolyn Jessop, former wife of the happy, smiling Merril in the pictures above. HER story is not so rosy. This polygamist way of life is pretty horrific in many households, and the underage children (including Merril's) SHOULD be protected from abuse. That is the American thing to do.

Cochise

9 conservative Republican justices on the Texas Supreme Court, who nobody has ever accused of being for the little guy against government authority, told that hack judge that she was full of crap and had to return the kids. The only abuse against most of those children was by the State of Texas. There may be a handful of men who have violated the underage marriage laws and they are being prosecuted. The state went into the Ranch, based on an admittedly bogus report of abuse, because Governor Perry was tired of hearing complaints from San Angelo about the "weirdos" on the FLDS Ranch - this was all about religion, and CPS could care less about those kids.

Re happy, 2:45

I read the book Escape & would recommend others read it also to see first hand how these women (and young boys) are treated. It's terrible that this happens in our country.

Carolyn Jessop has another book ready to come out & I have already requested a copy.

It is so sad that these young women are to afraid to leave the cult based on lies and fear.

Hey Anon:

The distinction is in there. It might require you to actually read the story, but it's there. I think the Deseret News did a great job covering this story. They seem to be one of the only ones still paying attention to what is going on!

Mike Polygamy is nothing more than having a wife and one or two mistresses. it isn't against the law to have a mistress

ds: how old were your grandparents when they got married

Re: tigerlily

It is noT only the age... It is the 15 year old girls being married to the 46 year old men AND being their 3rd, 4th, or 5th wife...... AND the 19 year old men being married, THEN groomed to take on several wives..... (That's why it is called polygamy, get it more than one..... )

Polygamy IS against the law of the land...

12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

IT IS AGAINST THE LAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

K

How can they be back at the ranch? I hope those who have been indicted are no longer there.

Hutch

Could it be that these FLDS people are perverting justice themselves? Are they trying to gain the sympathy of society by claiming mistreatment from law enforcement in order "justify" thier totally illegal behaviors? I can't understand the hypocrisy when people get all bent out of shape over gay marriage issues, yet they will not voice concerns to legislators about another equally awful perversion called polygamy and the child abuse associated with it. Wake up to reality people.

Virture

Why is it the girls responsibility to stay "sweet"- why don't I ever read what is preached to the BOYS about this subject? When I was a teenager it was the BOYS always trying to grope the girls- not the girls!! WHY DOES THE CHURCH LECTURE ONLY THE GIRLS ABOUT VIRTUE AND ABSTINENCE?

tigerlily

for it to be against they have to prove polygamy. meaning they have to find marriage certificates. no certificates no marriage. it's nothing more than having a wife and a mistress. that isn't against the law. dna doesn't prove there was a marriage nor does it prove abuse. teenage girls all over this country get pregnant everyday, is it abuse?? no

My grandparents were in their 20's.

I'm not from here.
