Mr. Whipple and other LGBT leaders in Utah,

I can't understand for the life of me why any self respecting gay or lesbian resident would want to do ANYTHING in Utah, except pack up their cars and LEAVE.
UT legislature made it abundantly clear, they will grant ZERO Human Rights to OUR community, not even allowing hospital visitation, protection from Hate Crimes, or even stopping BLATANT discrimination in housing and employment.
As I see it, LGBTs in Utah lose NOTHING by leaving, and stand to gain security, safety, and a sense that they are VALUED members of their community, neighborhood, city, and state.
I hope Utah's youth (gay and straight) choose to migrate. There are SO many better places awaiting you, where you aren't beaten, or judged, or SPIT ON.

Don't Protest
Don't pretty up the neighborhoods

Concentrate solely on PACKING your U-Haul trailors and downloading a Mapquest to the closest EXIT.

Utah isn't WORTHY of YOU

Utah gives it's LGBTs nothing....in ABUNDANCE

return the favor, LEAVE

As you gaily plant the garden beds for your Oppressors

I recommend this song abolitionists taught Slaves. To the Plantation owners it sounded like a hymn for baptism, instead it was strategy to escape, and avoid the bloodhounds used to track run away slaves.
"WADE IN THE WATER
WADE IN THE WATER, CHILDREN"

GREAT policy, no gay posts on a gay themed thread...it's SO utah

next in line after same guy# 1-5

wow, the last 5 comments sound as if they came from the same guy. How pathetic is that... - but I am happy that the protest has been stopped.

S Ahiwlsa

I will see you at the Unity Center. I appreciate the outreach you are doing in my neighborhood. All parking spaces will be usurped by conference attendees, but that's okay. I will walk a few blocks to participate in the service weekend.

Wouldn't it be nice if some folks TiVo'd the speakers and rolled up their sleeves to work alongside and get to know one-on-one the wonderful people in our diverse community?

Just a thought

You know, even though I think this is a nice idea and an honest attempt to find common ground among the LDS and the gay community, what will happen is the news media will swarm in and show pictures of gay people planting gardens and handing out bottles of water. Unfortunately, lost in this will be the messages of the General Conference. For me, Conference is a time of uplift. I have found that applying the messages of LDS leaders has changed my life, that of turning our lives to Christ and repenting of our sins. These acts of service being rendered are kind and thoughtful. I would invite those who come to Salt Lake to provide service to take the time to listen to a session of Conference and enjoy the messages and music.

Re: Just a thought

This sounds like the story of Mary and Martha In John 11: 1, 20... - Martha did good to serve but Mary did better to listen. yep.

I am tempted to make some snide commnets right now. . . . About . . . oh well I won't.

Anyways, good for Mr. Whipple et al. I hope it turns out OK. This IS a positive development.

Homosexuality will always remain a perversion, no matter how many flowers are planted. Much better to read and then follow the word of the Lord.

I'm an active Mormon who applauds this positive action on the part of our gay community. Best wishes for a productive weekend.

Protesting is Ugly

Good for Mr. Whipple and his constituents. Protesting with signs and yelling is really an ugly thing because it always emphasizes somebodies anger about something. They are not very productive because often they make tempers flair on both sides of a debate. There are other ways to protest something and by the way the founding fathers meant protesting as a means to express disappointment at government not each other! Serving their community and showing LDS that they are just like everybody else will have a much bigger positive impact than a protest of 1 million people. Actions speak louder than words!

One Human Family

I think it is great what the gay community is doing. While we Mormons are talking about doing good for the community, they are actually doing it.

To Avraham L. - "Judge not, that ye be not judged". Why not try listening to your own advise.

Bill

I am an active Mormon, but I applaud and support what Mr. Whipple is planning. In fact, I plan on helping on Saturday. This type of action will do more to build a bridge of understanding that any protest, and may even soften the hearts of many in the Mormon community to their LGBT brothers and sisters.

Its all about timing

to S Ahiwlsa: The scriptures teach that there is a season for all things. On only 4 days a year do we have the opportunity to meet in general conference. We have 361 other days to roll up our sleeves and serve our neighbor.

To those that want to TiVo conference and help...good for you! To those that will take the words from conference into their lives and serve on a different day...good for you too! There isn't a right or wrong to these options...they are both great. I personally will listen to conference and serve my community on the other 361 days. I hope you all will join me.

This is so BOGUS of these "ever so friendly" Mormons.
Your gays and lesbians were improving your neighborhoods, and working along side you for DECADES, and STILL you hateful folks vote to GUT every Human Right from them, and not satisfied to LOUSE up your OWN state you, attack CA families too.
As for the posts I made above, none of them loaded for HOURS until I made the post which chastised them for not posting gay posts on a gay thread.
Your lucky I'm not in SLC, it wouldn't look like the gardens of Amsterdam, it'd look like Dachau.

Roger S.

Why don't they do something to educate their own about the dangers of AIDS? That service would be much more appreciated than planting flowers and weeding the parks.

Maybe you bake some more tasty loaves of pumkin bread for Buttars too.

Then he can call you the BIGGEST THREAT to AMERICA, again!

when pigs fly
see you in June when CA ruling on prop 8 is delivered....it's gonna be a LONG HOT SUMMER!
