What great advice in a great article! If more people would follow this, there would be less contention in the homes and fewer divorces. I wonder how many people have slowly eroded their marriages by constant criticism of their spouse. Thanks for truly good advice in a well-written article.

Perhaps more common that we would like to admit. It's worthwhile taking time to reflect individually on our performance - put-downs such as these between husband and wife can be made unknowingly in social settings but the damage can be irrepairable.
Most of us can, and should, do better.

Some people, no matter how you say it will ignore everything you say. Many spouses have to hear it from someone else before they will believe you. It shouldn't be that way, but it is in many marriages.

And then there are those marriages where things really need to be said because the partner was not reared by a parent - but rather by a spoiler who never told them the most basic things about social behavior or relationships. The partners of these people are really in a pickle because spoiled people "know" they have nothing to change.
