Mr. Basketball: Haws best of the best — again

History Lesson? | 4:06 p.m. March 25, 2009
Haws is great but let's not forget about some of these players: Danny Vranes (Skyline) who went on to the U. and helped the Utes to the Sweet 16 before they bowed out to NC, Devin Durrant who prepped at Provo, think scored something like 50 points in the state championship game, had great career at BYU. Both Vranes and Durrant played in the pros. And there was Bingham's Fred Roberts who led the Miners to a state champ, played for BYU on the Elite 8 team and had a lengthy career in the NBA. I think we need a bit of historical perspective. Also, funny that LP was beat by Provo the last two years and Collinsworth was the man especially in the game this year. Both led their teams but Collinsworth was a bit more clutch in the OT.

Tyler's humble, hardworking attitude makes you love this guy. Tyler is the real deal and a great human being from a wonderful family. Tyler will make every player better at BYU and leave a legacy of greatness. Way to Go Tyler!!!

to Why?? | 5:03 p.m. March 25, 2009
With his qualifications both on and off the court, why would he not choose BYU? Certainly you don't mean that TUN!

Mr. Basketball doesn't mean he is the greatest player out there (even though this year Haws is the greatest player out there). That's what the MVP is left for. Look at past Mr. Basketball's, it doesn't always go to the player whose team won it. More often than not, it goes to the opposite team. So quit complaining, Haws is hands down the best player Utah has ever seen, he deserves this more than any WJ player(even though they the 3 are great, they don't compare). Congrats Haws and lead the Cougars to a NCAA victory baby!
Go Haws | 5:24 p.m. March 25, 2009
At least he'll have a lot of time for studying - especially in March
No, he didn't play in 8th grade | 5:27 p.m. March 25, 2009
No, Haws did not play in the 8th grade on varsity. You will note that Lone Peak has never played Kearns in boys basketball in the regular season. It as a spring tournament just as he finished the 8th grade on a Lone Peak AAU school team. (for the record, My son played with him, and we all saw him play with the jv and varsity with our jaws on the floor that day. He was that good, and unselfish. Really heady in how he shared the ball and made decisions, especially at that age.) that fall he started as a freshman and was the best or second best to the Chase kid on the team (depending on who you talk to) who was a senior, and he was a Frosh!

Man, I hate my team. Here we have another great player going to BYU. I think the Utes are so lame. I guess its time for me to start rooting for BYU. Plus, the girls are way cuter there...

I have been watching Tyler Haws play for several years at Lone Peak. He does everything!!!!He makes other people around him better and works very hard. He is going to have a great career at BYU. BYU is very lucky to have a hard working talented player like him.

Remember When | 9:26 p.m. March 25, 2009
I've seen a lot of really great players come out of Utah as well some surrounding states. It's way too hard to put a label on just one player and call him the best ever. The game has changed so much over the years. But here's a few I wouldn't kick out of the gym if I'm the coach. Dick Nemelka - Danny Vranes - Devin Durrant - Fred Roberts - Jeff Judkins - John Benson - Brian Taylor - Josh Grant - Alex Jensen. These are proven players that could take over a game. Taylor was not a prolific scorer, but he had by far the best ball handling skills of them all. These are my picks and I'm sticking to it. Oh and by the way...Nemelka is the cream of this crop.

Guess I better renew my BYU Basketball season tickts. This kid is going to be very good at the next level.

So Tyler do you think your UTE uncle will cheer for you. or will he boo you like he did your dad?
NBA? | 8:45 a.m. March 26, 2009
Maybe Tyler can be the first BYU athlete to have a meaningful career in the NBA. Ouch for Shawn Bradley, Hafa, Travis Hansen (tattoos and all) and that guy who was drafted last year and is now playing in Turkey or somewhere. Good decision.
Keep it up | 9:04 a.m. March 26, 2009
Don't worry BYU fans, he'll go on a mission but probably wont miss a single season.

Just messin. Congrats. I'm looking forward to what he can do in college.

Re: NBA? 8:45

Ever heard of Danny Ainge??? I really only think of a couple of UTEEs that actually had a decient career at the next level, Tom Chambers, Andre Miller, Keith VanHorn but even they didn't contribute to a championship....Funny, if someone could tell me, has a UTE ever contributed to a Championship at the next level??? Cougars: Steve Young, Jim MacMahon, Danny Ainge, Mike Wier(Masters).
congrats | 11:19 a.m. March 26, 2009
I was jogging by Lone Peak one day last summer at 6 am and saw a door open. I walked into the gym and there was Tyler, dripping with sweat, shooting jumper after jumper, taking passes from his Dad. Don't know what time he got there but it showed me a little of what the kid's about. Congrats my man. You deserve this award and many in life to come because of the type of person you are.
Re West Jordan | 6:18 p.m. March 26, 2009
West Jordan State Champs. Congratulations!! Seriously good job you were great this year. Now a couple of questions for you.

Where were you in 2007 and again in 2008? I definitely did not see you in the semi-finals or finals either year while Lone Peak won it both of those years. If you're a great team then you'll be there every year and not a one year flash in the pan like the Utes and their great 13-0 football season. Prove to us that you can be there every year like Lone Peak has and then you'll have a little more credibility.

this whole family is all state. His grandfather
was our bishop. Marty was part of a great BYU team.
Go Tyler, mission and Cougars.
Congrats | 2:50 p.m. March 27, 2009
Way to be Tyler!!! Can't imagine how much time you have put in to get this far in your game. But ladies and gentleman, Mr. Haws got shut down by Jordan Weirek in the State Championship game againts West Jordan... just throwin that out there. GOOD LUCK AT BYU KID!!

Congrats Tyler! You have been alot of fun to watch over the years at Lone Peak. Wish we could have won it for a third time because you certainly deserved it your senior season! Your parents are class acts just like you....humble, nice, and caring individuals. I loved the cleaning the bus story....shows just what you're about. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

And to West Jordan fans, nice job in the state tourney, but this article isn't about you.
