Why do Republican Party Chairs volunteer, while Democrat Party Chairs get paid?
Dave is wrong about party mailing privileges. Here's what it says in the Political Mailings clause of the Nonprofit Standard Mail section of the USPS' current Domestic Mail Manual:
1.6.10 Political Mailings
A qualifying political committee under 1.3 may mail election-related materials, such as candidate endorsements, at the Nonprofit Standard Mail prices if the materials are exclusively of the qualifying political committee. Political mailings may not be made at the Nonprofit Standard Mail prices when a political candidate or anyone else not authorized to mail at the Nonprofit Standard Mail prices assists the qualifying political committee with the preparation or mailing of such materials, or pays any of the costs of preparation or mailing, or provides any consideration to the qualifying political committee in return for the mailing being made. The following are examples of political mailings that would not qualify for mailing at the Nonprofit Standard Mail prices:
b. A mailing containing circulars, flyers, brochures, or other printed matter prepared or printed by a political candidate or his or her campaign organization.
d. A mailing made on behalf of a candidate in return for a contribution to the qualifying political committee.
You are an amazing strategist and look forward to having you serve as the head of the UT GOP.
Without question he is a great mind. The issue will be whether or not he is truly non-partial. So long as he sticks by the letter of the law he will do fine. In the past there were concerns about party officials tilting anything and everything towards incumbents.
If incumbents had done such a fine job we wouldn't be watching Obama ruin the economy; something Bush and the incumbents started mind you.
JMT,
Hansen, in case you didn't notice, is being propped up by "the" incumbents.
I think the only reason Hatch and Bennett got Hansen to run in the 1st place was that Weiler was being neutral on the 2010 race. With Hansen stating he would be neutral, and weiler bowing out of the Chair race, that sets a bad president. Under this situation, there is no way Hansen can be neutral - is there?
To Puzzled: Because Democrats need the money.
I've worked with Dave before, a long time ago. He'll do an excellent job. GO DAVE. Let's get Salt Lake County back.
Bennett should be removed from office. He voted for the first bailout. He is no good. Hatch needs to be removed as well. He also voted for the bailout. Lets get rid of these guys. Hatch has done nothing, has said nothing and has hide behind the scenes. Once elections get close, he will poke his head out of his little hole and claim he has done all these wondeful things and the people will again vote him in. We need statesman in office, not politicians. Then Hatch and Kennedy can eat out every night and really become good buddys and get it out in the open.
JD is such a suck up, and everyone knows who you are Joe. Dave Hansen offers nothing new or interesting for the Republican Party. At least Wieler is under 60.
Knowing Dave Hansen and his work ethic I think he is the man for the job. All I have to say is beware Democrats in Salt Lake County... and Summit County for that matter.
and the One Party Government of Utah keeps rolling!
We don't need anyone that has the support of Hatch or Bennett. We need a bold new fresh look..
Rob, I think Dave meant to say (WORDS I HOPE I AM PUTTING INTO HIS MOUTH) that he thought ALL candidates should have full use of delegate names and email address lists, a privilege that seems to be a nearly exclusive privilege reserved for incumbents in virtually every county of the state, given them a clearly unfair advantage as they thumb their noses at the Article XII of the State GOP Constitution rules every GOP person must follow in Utah.
As I read that thing about postage, indeed the first things that came to mind were twofold: a) the 'fab 5 flyer' NOT so correctly implemented incident, and 'Rob Alexander'... a challenger candidate I know personally who DID CORRECTLY get to use the mailer system, because he follows the rules to a 'T', which might have been one of his downfalls when he lost his race. Good guys apparently don't get very far it seems.
Dave hasn't done his homework in reseraching this area, he's been away too long to know what he's talking about.
Thanks for setting the news-hungry folks straight, Rob, your magnificent!
Dave:
Looks like we need to start from the beginning, Dave. Please repeat after me.
1) It's wrong to hold the posisition of state Republican Party Chair while being paid by Orrin Hatch to do his bidding. That's what little people who don't live in the stratosphere refer to as a conflict of interest. Conflicts of interest are bad.
2) It's wrong to send out mailings from the Utah Republcan Party when you prearrange for the candidates who benefit from the mailing to reimburse you for so doing. That's what little people who've never worked for Envoricare call criminal activity. Criminal activity is bad.
3) It's wrong to run with the arrogant assumption that because Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett have called and annointed you to the position of URP Chair, that the race is over and that no one else should challenge you. That's what little people call a Soviet-style election. Soviet style elections are bad, Dave.
Didn't they teach you this stuff in lobbying school, Dave?
Bad day for spelling. I must have been up too late last night strategizing.
All thinking is to end: the high poobahs have decided to stay in power, get a guy in the position to keep them in power, and to pretend this is an open gop party.
It ain't. But all thinking is to end: the high poobahs have spoken.
ps -- do not look behind the curtain.
One more step in the destruction of the Republican party.
Mike, I thought the word was, "strategerizing"
point 1 - definately agree.
point 2 - I don't understand this one. If all candidates have access, it would be OK. If they limit access, then it is definately wrong.
point 3 - Right on target.
Now, back to tacticilizing and strategery for my run at the Davis GOP chair.
Tom
You know what this means? If Tim or Dave win, Mike spends another 2 years marginalized.
Repeat after me, Mike:
I am not paranoid, everyone really IS out to get me.
I think either Dave or Tim will win Chair. I am not aware of anyone else running. If Dave was being endorsed by just Hatch/Bennett, I would vote for Tim. With Dave being endorsed by Chaffetz, I am going to give Dave a close look.
I think Morgan has a very good shot at beating Todd and I think Morgan Philpot will do a good job. I like Morgan's attitude.
The question is what Christy is going to do? Run, run for a different office, or throw support behind Morgan?
