Joseph Smith said members of his generation would live to see the Second Coming. What happened to that prophesy? When did "Latter Days" get tossed aside too?

(I do not consider these questions off topic or abusive by the way!)

I wish the deseret news had more coverage of the temple dedication. we have not had one in the valley since 1981 so this is a very big event. none of my kids have ever seen a new temple dedicated and i was disappointed that the church newspaper did not have more stories. please cover more church news locally expecially about the temple!!!

I know many, if not all, of the temples have time capsules in the cornerstones. After the comments made about generations yet unborn opening them, I am wondering if any of them have ever been opened? Does anyone know? It would be interesting to know what was found.

Also, does anyone know what the purpose would be to open the cornerstones? Part of a celebration or something?

Interesting to wonder about the purpose of this tradition.
