but the foul calls against Jared were beyond pathetic. In my opinion and several thousand others at Taco Bell Arena he committed two fouls. The officiating was clearly one sided.
Jared is the biggest difference maker on this team. All expected Tai and Gary to be good but nobody saw jared coming, not even the coaches.
Jared is an outstanding kid and really helped carry us for moments of this game. I feel had he been in down the stretch we would be celebrating a victory.
Excellent season Jared, outstanding person as well.
What a season!
Yeah great season! We'll see you next fall! You're gonna have to carry the load now buddy!
.. but clearly having Jared on the floor to finish games this year was why USU had the 19 game win streak. He has a nack for putting the nail in the coffin shot in whether it be a tipin, layup, or clutch three. I was there at Taco Bell Arena and couldn't believe the refs actually fouled Jared out. What a joke.
We can continue to sit here and complain about the officiating. I think coach morrill said it best in the media room, we had our chances (meaning the 14 open shots between Pooh, Newby and Stavon, which were missed). For some reason the shots didn't fall our way. I was shocked for stavon especially he had 3 threes wide open in and out .. imagine how different the game would have been had they fell. Our chances were there regardless the officiating. Which is commendable to the character of this team, mentally they didn't allow the calls to affect them.
If our BIG BLUE alumni are out there reading this, and you have the finacial donations to help the program .. help with what you can, our program needs it and thanks so much!
Great job Jared! We will see you and the rest of the team next year! Wilkinson will be missed, but we have most of the team coming back. Great year!
NOT A WORD ABOUT TAI WESLEYS INTENSE PLAY THAT ALSO HELPED THE AGGIES CLIMB OUT OF THE FIRST HALF HOLE THEY WERE IN??
AS A POLY WHO ATTENDED THE GAME I AM DISAPPOINTED! TAI HAD A WONDERFUL GAME DESPITE FOULING OUT...I THOUGHT HE PLAYED WITH A LOT OF EMOTION (WHILE THE REST OF THE AGGIES WERE SHELL SHOCKED) AND BANGED HARD WITH MARQUETTE SCORING INSIDE AND GETTING A MONSTER DUNK THAT GOT THE AGGIE FAITHFUL BACK IN THE GAME..SURE HE HAD SOME ILL ADVISED TURNOVERS AND ALSO FOULED OUT, BUT SO DID THE REST OF THE TEAM...
BIG UPS TO TAI...GOOD LUCK TO THE AGGIES NEXT YEAR.
PS: GO UTES!!
this game should not have been close. maybe the foul calls went your way all season long in your weak conference and schedule but in a real basketball league marquette is smart to play to its strength of getting to the basket with their quickness and athleticism. try scheduling some real competition next season so you're not as shocked if you make it to the postseason again.
I thought Tai, Jared, & Gary weren't really all that "shell-shocked" from the beginning. It just took 15 minutes for everyone else to get there. USU is a great team and lost by one point to a #6 seed. One or two things go differently and the outcome is different. It was a great close game. Gary was great for the Aggies this year and will be missed. To the rest of the Aggies and the new guys coming in, Let's go Aggies!!!
You may or may not be a Coug or Ute, but if you are, the Utes & Cougs lost by larger margins to worse seeds (#9 & #12). USU lost by 1 to the #6 seed. The MWC is clearly not all that like some think it's cracked up to be. Don't get me wrong, the Utes & Cougs have good teams and can pull off an upset now & again, but they aren't anywhere close to being good enough to join a BCS conferencem, at least in basketball. This year's Ute football team proved that they could definitely compete in a BCS conference.
Come to think of it, with the 2 great BCS bowl game appearances and the Majerus years, Utah actually has a pretty strong argument for getting in a BCS conference. BYU on the other hand, you'd have to go back to the early 80's & Ainge years to have any argument.
This game should not have been close? The game was what it was. USU led by six with 4:41 to go. Give Marquette their due for forcing the action down the stretch and and getting to the foul line, but this game was there for the taking for the Aggies. Marquette was fortunate the Ags missed some open looks they had been making all season long.
BTW, USU has been trying for years to schedule some "real competition" but the "big schools" consistently refuse to meet them on equitible terms. If the big schools are all that, why are they afraid to meet USU on even terms?
Its frustrating, isn't it? The other teams schedule the big guys, while LOWLY Utah State plays a weak schedule. And yet, it was a close game, wasn't it? That doesn't make sense in your little mind. Why, why was it close? It was the mighty Marquette that they took to the wire! They should have been blown away! They didn't play anybody! And yet the others(BYU and Utah) had strong schedules and got wasted by lower seeded teams! Why?!
Wake up! Schedule means little!
Utah State played the best game, by far of the 3 state schools. Hate to say it, but they have the best coach. Put Luke in Logan, and they would still be playing, or better yet, put Quayle in SLC and they would be still be playing, well maybe not. Go Aggies, you have a great program and should be very proud of it.
A basketball BCS? Never heard of it.
How you doin' lil brother?
