Great effort... | 1:00 p.m. March 20, 2009
As a Ute fan I want to congratulate the Aggies on nearly pulling off the upset. USU represented the state of Utah very well today, something BYU failed to do yesterday. Hopefully the Utes can pull out a win for the state.
Proud of the Aggies | 1:00 p.m. March 20, 2009
It was great to see the Aggies take on a Big East Team. It showed me that the Aggies can compete with the big schools. Marquette is an excellent team, with some great athletes. Aggies fought hard.

Thanks for a great year! It has been an awesome season all the way around.

Wishing the Utes good luck with their game tonight!
Go Aggies!

I left Utah State 45 years ago to attend dental school in Seattle. Seattle newspapers give little coverage to sports in the state of Utah so with time I lost some of my fervor for my beloved Aggies. Having retired in Utah I can now enjoy my lost love for the little school that can. I became emotional as I listened to the fans enthusiasm and saw the courage of our basketball team. Coach Morrel reminds me of Bum Phillips when he said Don Shula can take his team and beat yours and then take your team and beat his. Aggie nation is hurting now but that team did itself proud! Go Aggies!

Aggies, you made the state of Utah proud today. You had your backs against the wall and gave it everything you had in the second half. I applaud you for your efforts... Hold your heads high! You had an unbelievable season that I believe saw you beat all but 4 teams... That is an incredible accomplishment that neither BYU nor Utah did this year! It is also nice to see at least one semi reasonable ute fan.... I know they exist... Just wish more of them would contribute to the comment boards...
Aggatag | 1:08 p.m. March 20, 2009
Yo at least our team didn't just roll over and die like the Cougar's...still a shame we lost though!

Go Aggies!!!
(better be careful using that term may give cougies nightmares...what am I saying they are use to losing the Big Games)
BYU fan | 1:09 p.m. March 20, 2009
I thought the aggies played an excellent game, I was disappointed to see them lose, I would like to see any team from the State win. I am very disappointed in the coverage by CBS I get very upset when they cut away from a regional game to show a game that you haven't been watching. They did it for the BYU game and big time in the Aggie game, under two minutes left, score tied and they cut away to another game. UNFORGIVABLE

What a bitter pill to swallow. Great job Aggies on a phenomenal year...one of the best obviously! We are proud of you guys and look forward to supporting you next year! Our time is coming....Go Aggies.
Mike in Sandy | 1:13 p.m. March 20, 2009
Wow! BYU should take note...THAT'S how a team plays with heart, like they WANT to win. Well played Aggies! Now that you are off, perhaps you can go to Provo and teach the Cougs how to do it.

You played a better game against a better opponent than BYU and dang near pulled it off.

At least we didn't have to turn off the game early, like we did yesterday.

You are excellent ambassadors for hoops guts, desire and ability in Utah.

all the haters get on here I want to say this team has exceeded all expectations this year! These guys make me proud to be an Aggie! It'll be tough to lose Gary next year but we will break through again in this tourney soon, guaranteed! GO AGGIES!
McKay | 1:22 p.m. March 20, 2009
Great effort Aggies. Sucks that they didn't win; however they showed a lot of heart and fight. Something that the team I cheer for didn't do yesterday at all. It looked like they tightened up a bit when they got up 6, they appeared to player looser when they were playing from behind. Too bad, either way though, great game!
Go Utes! | 1:22 p.m. March 20, 2009
It was a good fight for the Aggies, I'm disappointed they couldn't pull it off. Looks like it's up to the Utes to represent the state of Utah once again. First football, BYU loses to a poor Arizona team, Utah wins the Sugar Bowl. Now basketball, BYU plays with no heart and gets trounced, Utah gettin ready to represent! Go Utes!
J | 1:23 p.m. March 20, 2009
Ya know, I try to cheer for USU, but I just can't anymore. My friend I knew while living in Wisconsin is a huge Marquette fan and travels to Big East games all over. The first thing he mentioned when the game ended was not that they won, but how disgusted he was with the student fans. I won't say what he said, but he now hates Utah and Mormons. He said they were worse than some Big East fans. Aggie fans, learn some class, please! You're embarrassing our state with your lack of class!

I thought Aggies could control their fingers etc. when not playing other Utah teams, but I guess they can't. No other fans of other visiting teams deserve to put up with that. I'm so glad you lost!!
Great job Aggies | 1:24 p.m. March 20, 2009
Thanks Aggies for a great game and a great season. You made your fans proud. What a great comeback, and almost a huge upset. It was anyone's game at the end!

Too bad we didn't get the respect we deserved with a 30 win season. Who know what would have happened if we had been seeded higher and could have played a lesser team - like an Arizona or Texas A&M!
patricio | 1:25 p.m. March 20, 2009
Well played game. Utah State gave a good team a run for their money. They are definitely better than BYU this year.

What a (rebuilding) year! You did the State of Utah proud and all aggies nation wide. Today proved USU can play with the big boys! Thanks for playing with class and style.

For USU grad | 1:29 p.m. March 20, 2009
And what would that tournament record be?
Thanks KUTV | 1:29 p.m. March 20, 2009
That was really special how someone at KUTV screwed up and started showing the Syracuse vs Stephen Austin game instead of the Aggies. When I went on the KUTV website they had a big notice that read WATCH LIVE SYRACUSE VS UTAH STATE. Obviously someone was asleep and they cared little or not at all. By the time they figured out that the Aggies were playing Marquette and not Syracuse we missed a quarter of the game. Finally after many calls from fans here in Logan we started watching the game with about 11 minutes to go in the 1st half.

Thanks KUTV for finally making the switch. Maybe if we're really lucky you'll even mention on sports tonight that we played a game. Geez.
Way to go! | 1:31 p.m. March 20, 2009
Great game Utah State! No one can complain after 30 wins. That is remarkable feat. But...your loss killed my bracket :(
From a Cougar | 1:34 p.m. March 20, 2009
Please, The Aggies didn't do any better than BYU? They lost in the first round. End of story. Not to mention Marquette is in a weakened state. Had BYU drawn Marquette they would have smeared the Golden Eagles.
re: J | 1:34 p.m. March 20, 2009
Couldn't agree more...I don't know if you're so bored up there in Logan and have nothing better to do, but learn some class and manners.

Stew is the best coach in the state. Marquette was lucky to get out of that game alive. Great adjustments at the half, way to go Stew.
Anonymous | 1:38 p.m. March 20, 2009
that's funny Patricio!! I'm pretty sure they played this year and the Y won by 6. Just because the Aggies played a solid game today doesn't somehow make them better than the Y. That was decided a couple of monthes back on a neutral court.
To from a Cougar | 1:43 p.m. March 20, 2009
Dude, you are delusional. The Cougs wouldn't have beaten Grainger High.

Aggies | 1:43 p.m. March 20, 2009
BYU fans get a life! The only way you seem to feel good about yourselfs is to bash USU. 30-4 and a 1 point loss in the tournament. Show some of the honor system lessons and get some class.
Too bad Aggies | 1:43 p.m. March 20, 2009
I'm a Cougar fan first, but pull for any team from the state of Utah secondly. I truly believe USU has a great team. Let's be honest, Stew takes the hand he's dealt and does an incredible job with it. No need to hold your heads in any shame. Every team lost this year to teams that they should't have lost to. It happens.

That being said, for all the classless "fans" at Utah, USU and BYU that feel the need to denigrate the other teams on these posts, just be aware that by putting down BYU,or any of the other teams in our conferences, you give our respective conferences a black eye to anyone outside of them. When we face each other, it's smack talk time. Any other game, BECAUSE we're not in any BCS conference, we need to keep in mind that by tearing down the other teams in our conferences, we're cutting our own throats come selection time.

I am disappointed Marquette managed to pull off the mild upset beating Utah State. They were the only Utah team I expected to win the first round (with Utah and BYU losing by small margins). The Aggies showed heart and gusto, reminding everyone at least one Utah team belongs. Good luck to the Utes later today.

As for my cougars, I was disgusted with the lack of heart they showed. They should look to the great example of Utah State of what a good program is and try to fix their problems.
bill | 1:47 p.m. March 20, 2009
I don't know why these always have to come down to byu vs usu. Both lost in the first round. Byu got a hot a&m team and usu froze down the stretch once they finally got the lead. Both had good seasons. Neither was good enough to win.
Randall | 1:47 p.m. March 20, 2009
Go(Home)Aggies!!
a win is a win | 1:49 p.m. March 20, 2009

Self Fulfilling Prophecy | 1:56 p.m. March 20, 2009
Once again, the "pundits" have fulfilled their prophecy of one and done for all teams that play in non-BCS conferences. Amazing how they can pat themselves on the back and say "See, I told you they couldn't do it" when they continually give teams like Utah State and North Dakota State and all the similar schools high seeds. Just like all the other BCS hogwash, the self fulfilling prophecy continues. Every now and then one of our favorite teams wins the coin toss and hits that last second shot, but more often than not, the pundits continue to be proved correct. Funny how they don't see the fallacy in their circular reasoning, and never will. Hopefully next year our team(s) will hit the lucky shot and suddenly be sprung to stardom. Go Aggies! One of these years you'll prove the pundits wrong.
Best BBall Team in Utah | 1:59 p.m. March 20, 2009
Aggies better than BYU based on a first-round loss in NCAA's?

This is all we know (HEAD-to-HEAD) about who has the best basketball team in the state:

BYU defeated Utah State on a neutral court. BYU>USU
Utah State defeated Utah at home. USU>UofU
Utah defeated BYU at home in overtime. UofU>or=BYU
BYU defeated Utah at home. BYU>UofU

I'm not a math major, but it appears...BYU>USU>UofU

If the U wins tonight, then they can lay a claim to being the only team in Utah to win a first round NCAA tourney game. Until then, it's all subjective fodder for rabid, unreasonable fans to spew on comment boards.
Maryland Royal | 2:05 p.m. March 20, 2009
I am proud of the Aggies. They fought as hard as they could once they got into the game. I really want to see Stew schedule stiffer out-of-conference competition from now so that the players can hit the court running, come Tournament time. They could have won today's game if they fully got into it from the get-go.
Stop the comparing... | 2:06 p.m. March 20, 2009
Marquette to Texas A&M. Texas A&M played out of their heads yesterday and already have some analysts questioning whether they could beat UCONN. Aggies played great. Fun to watch. Leave it at that. (BTW, Marquette's best player was hurt).
The Difference | 2:07 p.m. March 20, 2009
The Aggies lost by a point and played hard.

BYU lost (to a worse team) by 13 and didn't care if they won or lost. No toughness, no guts, no nuthin'.

Fought till the end | 2:12 p.m. March 20, 2009
Good game by Utah State. I disagree with ya Randall. Let's not forget they played a Big East Team and BYU played a mediocre team. Utah State showed a lot of guts coming back from a double digit deficit and almost pulling it out in the end. BYU was very disappointing, but honestly I did not expect BYU to win, I chose A & M in my bracket. BYU lacks athleticism, and that is what their problem was along with absolutely no heart or fight in them whatsoever. Come on Utah, beat Arizona and do the state proud. I expect a close game, hopefully Utah can pull it off.
Aggies showed up! | 2:12 p.m. March 20, 2009
Actually coming in as the underdogs USU did all they could do to win it and fell short. USU fought hard and nearly pulled of the upset. The Cougs on the other hand had a higher seed and by all means should have been in their game. But the cougs never showed. Even when USU was down at 1/2 they came back and made a game out of it. Don't start comparing USU to BYU's loss because 2 more points to the Aggies favor and they would have advanced.

Mike | 2:13 p.m. March 20, 2009
Want my predictions for the first round? Utah teams----0-3. nuff said. Let's wait until next year.
Re: J | 2:15 p.m. March 20, 2009
Classless fans huh? Way to stereotype information that came from a source and then apply it to the entire fan base. Every fan base has a few jerks.

I am amazed at the number of comments that had to bring BYU into the discussion. BYU is one and out. USU is one and out. USU played tough and BYU seemed to not play with any urgency, but a loss is a loss. No such thing a a moral victory.

Lastly, I also root for any team from the state of Utah and for any team that is not in the BCS. Seeing BYU, USU, and the number of other non-BCS teams get beat in the first round does not help us the next year when it comes to selection time.

Aggies, you had a great rebuilding year. Next year should be special too. Aggie fans, compared to the fans who act classless, there are thousands more who are just have good clean passion that can yell really loud. Spectrum is very sepcial during an Aggie game.
Bear Laker | 2:15 p.m. March 20, 2009
A loss is a lossis loss is a loss.
Otherwise, if a one loss game is better than a thirteen point loss, you would be advancing somewhere. Instead I got to get your girlfriend home quicker, because you are on your way home. Looser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
at least | 2:16 p.m. March 20, 2009
usu gave themselves a chance to win, byu was never in the game. that is the difference. usu competed against a team that was supposed to 'walk all over the aggies'. they didn't lay down. the cougars did once they met adversity. usu has heart, byu doesn't.
re: J | 2:16 p.m. March 20, 2009
I was at the game and saw, heard or observed no such shenanigans. I think you are just making things up.
