I'm not sure that the immigration (legal) into Utah is due to economic opportunity as much as personal lifestyle decisions, such as being in an LDS dominated environment. I have not found Utah to have any more opportunities than many other areas of the country.

Utah's the best.

Especially those three areas; Provo, Logan and St. George. Some other areas around the state sadly want to be San Francisco, but most of it's awesome. I say we fence off SLC, kinda like East Berlin.

You might have, let's say just for fun, included the NEW POPULATIONS in your story! Has the CB finally figured out that there are more than a million people in SL County? Or do they still think it's 999,999?

Johny Fairplay

What's up with Utahns wanting to put a wall around things they find both objectionable (bars, SLC) and non-objectionable (temple). Cultural characteristic?

Re: Fairplay

Hey it's the fortress mentality!

Escaper

I moved here for the dirt cheap prices of homes compared to surrounding states and the pretty landscape and outdoor recreation. Ask many of us who moved from other areas. We didn't move here because of the "culture", we moved here in spite of it.

Emjay

It is so pathetic that there is always someone who has to find something negative in anything. These people surf the paper just hoping to find ANYTHING that will give them an opportunity to say something bad about Utah. What pathetic people. I hope ya'll can get some counseling.

The CB data does show Salt Lake County at just over 1 million people now. Utah County is 530k. The one thing not shown is the growth since 2000. Looking at metro areas, St. George is number 2 in the nation for fastest growing, Provo is 3, Logan 33, Ogden 41, and SLC is 73.

Say what you will about Utah Valley, but someone must like it here!

Agreed Emjay!

So true Emjay. I notice that over and over. And sometimes their complaints have nothing to do with the story at all.
It's kind of ridiculous and annoying too.
Anyway, they add color to our lives i guess.
