The title of this article should be Pageants celebrate hokum.
I think the whole "Mormon Pageant Culture" is so cheesy and they have moved so far away from the real purpose. In my humble opinion, the only one worth going to is the Hill Cummorah Pageant. Has anyone been to the Manti pageant? WOW. It's a cheesy love story with awful acting. But who would dare tell the writer that it stinks and that it is a "tradition" that should have been killed long ago. Honestly, it is awful. Martin Harris Pageant is okay, but not great.
It would be nice to see the return of "And It Came To Pass", the name given to the Oakland, California Pageant which had an over 40 years run at the Temple grounds in Oakland. Last year was the first year that It Didn't Come to Pass. Elder Quentin Cook of the Quorum of the 12 said at a San Francisco Stake celebration last Summer, that the Oakland Pageant would be coming back.
Sure did Miss It Last Year.
Anybody got an update??
I think the critics of the pageants should remember that the actors are all volunteers and donate their time and effort without financial rewards. The Mesa Temple Pageant during Easter is a good pageant. I can't comment on the others, but I feel if the critics want to donate their time effort and skills then the pageants might be better. But ofcourse, we all know that armchair critics very seldom donate anything of worth except their opinions.
