I am an active member of the church but have always wondered why they do multiple dedications for the same temple. Isn't once enough? Didn't it "take" the first time? Yet they keep repeating the same prayer over and over in multiple sessions.

In times past it was probably so more people could witness the dedication, but these days with satellite broadcasts, everyone can see it the first time.

These multiple procedures make no sense to me. Do it once, do it right and move on to the next.

It is beyond my comprehension why any active Church member would complain about the fact there are several dedicatory sessions for a temple.

If there is more than one sesssion, many more people have the opportunity to be there in person and to partake in the spirit of the occasion. It gives members and General Authorities a chance to meet and interact. It's a sacred and happy event that a lot of people look forward to.

Why are you bellyaching about this?

Re:Linda

Yeah, I know what you mean....I don't fully understand the temple dedication process I guess...

Another question I have...when temple REdedications occur, usually a rededicatory prayer is given. However, for the Chicago temple, no formal rededication occurred. Why not? It was closed for close to 4 months; entire rooms were replaced, new furnishings and carpet had to be installed...yet no rededicatory prayer...

I was thinking of a few people from Hollywood that probably won't be invited...

Dave from Midvale again

Dear Sister Linda (11:38)- Your question is valid. Yes, there are multiple sessions so as many people as possible can be IN THE TEMPLE. Having been at a remote location and inside the temple, there is a difference.

Dear Brother Anon. @ 12:02- Sister Linda has no problem at all. But you need a major overhaul!

Enjoy the dedication one and all.

Love having many dedications...

As a boy, I grew up in South Jordan. I was only a child back then, but I still remember the opportunity I had to attend one of the dedications for the Jordan River Temple in person. I would have to agree with Dave from Midvale. Similarly, having attended conference sessions at the new conference center, I can also tell you that any time I can get some tickets to be able to attend conference in person as opposed to watching it on tv or satellite, I would do it in a heartbeat because for me the experience is so much more personal. I can still enjoy conference via satellite, but to be able to go and sit there with the prophet in plain sight is an outstanding opportunity. Either way, what a wonderful event to be able to witness!

The multiple dedication sessions isn't for the Temple, it's for the people. It's so more people can be first-hand whitnesses to this awsome, often once in a lifetime, event.

And no... seeing it on TV isn't the same thing.

Thinkin' Man

I wonder whether HBO will be there to film it?

If HBO depicted a dedication, they would have made the handkerchiefs yellow!

So I'm going to put a little web-cam in my glasses and film it so HBO can see what white hankies really look like!
