Welcome to Boise | 6:32 a.m. March 16, 2009
It's going to be like a home game for the Aggies. We are excited to have them come to Boise again, now get your butts to the sweet 16!
True Cougar Blue | 6:35 a.m. March 16, 2009
Congrats Aggies. I'm very happy you won the WAC tourney and made it to the Big Dance. You've had a terrific season.

I believe you're in a similar circumstance to BYU. You're seeding will improve after you demonstrate you can win in the Big Dance. We're both after the Gonzaga model. They started by getting upsets in the NCAA Tournament and then built on that. Go get'em USU
Gonzaga Model? | 7:28 a.m. March 16, 2009
Gonzaga plays a lot of tough games. USU does not.

The Bulldogs did not play tough teams until Mark Few got there and they started knocking off people in the first round. Gradually there seeding rose.
aggiefan | 7:51 a.m. March 16, 2009
I am really glad they are happy, but for the rest of us who love em, yep they got hosed AGAIN.

Go AGGIES! :)

Go Aggies!!! :-)

Interesting to see how different the computer rankings are than selection committee's opinions.

Rank, Name, Record, (W,L), Ranking Score

19 Marquette 23 8 748

30 Brigham Young 24 6 735

40 Utah 21 9 722

43 Utah St. 27 4 720

The committee probably got the Marquette/USU seeds correct but flipped the Utah and BYU ranks *and* seeded those two schools too high in general - by the computer USU and Utah are basically tied.

The 28 score (rank) difference between USU and Marquette is very tight (a 100 point difference is the easy prediction difference). Given Boise is almost a home court for the Aggies, and that Marquette lost a great player, I think we stand a very good chance of advancing to the second round.

the aggies made it to the second round in 2001 also.
GoAggies | 9:32 a.m. March 16, 2009
There is an error in this article. The aggies made it to the second round in 2001.
GoAggies | 9:32 a.m. March 16, 2009
The aggies also made it to the second round in 2001.
re:aggiefan | 9:34 a.m. March 16, 2009
You assume too much. Hosed with an 11, I am not so arrogant to think we deserved much higher and given the location, location location I say this is a pretty good deal. Additionally we have an opponent who is a little banged up. This game will not be as tough as the Arizona draw we got last time.

Great draw, great location, go Aggies!!!

Besides an 8 vs 9 game gives you the #1 seed next round, which may be jumping ahead but I think it is a great draw for us.

GO AGS!!!
Excited | 9:42 a.m. March 16, 2009
Marguette will be without its best player so I expect the Aggies to take this one.
reality! | 10:33 a.m. March 16, 2009
Here is the deal. If we don't win, we will never get respect. We have to go out and prove we can compete with schools who have proven themselves. If we didn't win the WAC tourney, we would have been the first 29 win team to not get a bid, and that is ridiculous. We have got to start playing 2 for 1 games with big time opponents. Utah has proven that losing to big time opponents does not hurt their seed. They are a 5 seed??? Hardly, but the seed is a result of their tough schedule and the respect they have earned over the years after winning a few tourney games. We need to win or shutup.
Aggies | 10:44 a.m. March 16, 2009
I hope the Aggies win this game, but anyone that thinks Marquette will be an easy win (even banged up) has not watched them play.
NorthernBlue | 10:50 a.m. March 16, 2009
Utah St. 68 Marquette 64
Don't | 10:52 a.m. March 16, 2009
expect too much. St. Mary's was without their best player and they handed it to us. I would love to see us win this one, but, USU teams of the past have not shown enough for me to get that excited. I think this is a tough draw for us, but I will not discount the great location the committee gave us.

Way to work your way back into the rankings Ags.

Go Aggies.

Agree w/ "Reality" | 11:19 a.m. March 16, 2009
Totally agree with you "reality"...swallow your pride stew and show the nation we will play anyone, anywhere, anytime...respect is earned - always. Fresno State gets it...
88USUAggie | 11:26 a.m. March 16, 2009
To continue to pile onto "reality"'s comment - did anyone notice that no WAC team got an NIT invite? Wow...

Even the Big Sky (Weber) got a second team playing another game!

Marquette will be a heavy load to carry. Too much talent and too much experience and too much heart.
re:GoAggies | 11:41 a.m. March 16, 2009
USU beat Ohio State in 2001 in the first round.
To Reality! and Agree w/ | 11:43 a.m. March 16, 2009
Stew has offered exactly what you're asking for. USU will play anyone, anywhere, anytime as long as it's fair (home and home or neutral court). It's a standing invitation for he receives few takers (see press conference from two weeks ago reported here). 2 for 1, 3 for 1 or other inequitable arrangements are not acceptable to Stew. And Stew practices what he preaches, which is why USU plays at SUU and UVU, etc. If USU gives in (and others continue to give in) to the power conferences, the slippery slope to a BCS-style Men's basketball organization will only get steeper.
College Guru | 12:31 p.m. March 16, 2009
Marquette is a legitimate sleeper to make a deep run in the tournament. All there losses in the past 5 games have come to teams who are seeded 1-3 in the tournament. Only one of those losses were more than 10 pts (at Pitt), 1 went into 0T (Syracuse), and 1 was decided in last second basket (Villanova).

This team is talented, focused, and is playing with a chip on their shoulder to prove they can win without james. USU sounds too confident and could get blown out in this game.

Re: To Reality! and Agree w/ | 1:09 p.m. March 16, 2009
USU has to give a reason for these "Big" Teams to come play in logan. If they do come to logan and get a win, it does absolutly nothing for them. However if they lose, it would really hurt them. It just doesn't make sense for them to play us 1 for 1, or even 2 for 1. They have to prove that they can go out and get a win to earn some respect from the media. until then Stew swallow your pride and go play someone.
Go Aggies!!! | 3:33 p.m. March 16, 2009
Can we have some comments about something other then scheduling? Give it a rest!!! I know MU is very good, but I think the Aggies will give them all they can handle. No matter what happens USU has put a product on the court any Utahn and esspecially a USU alum can be proud of! Our players and fans are the best in the world! This team of players has exceded expectations thier entire lives! School record for wins! Not bad for a rebuilding year! GO AGGIES!
lets get positive, we are dancin | 4:19 p.m. March 16, 2009
I agree with Go Aggies! Enouogh of scheduling. what is is and we are DANCING!!!! Lets be positive and get behind our boys. Goin to boise | 5:20 p.m. March 16, 2009
I've been reading the Big East message boards and only a couple of people who like Nevada's work in the past give us any respect. Here's the thing aggie fans we need you in boise, its a 3.5-4 hour drive people make it happen >> start a car pool .. tickets for the game are only $65 I know the economy is down right now. but come on people let's go to boise! they play so much better when the aggie fans are there. I was at the nevada game .. this was the best I've seen them play all year. If we can bring the right intensity, not let anything get to our heads our defense and rebounding will keep us in the game.
Bring your brothers, sisters mas and pas let's go to boise friday and rock out Taco Bell arena. I'll be there will you?
NIT Invite | 9:07 p.m. March 16, 2009
In response to the previous comment about Weber getting an NIT invite and not a WAC team, Weber gets an automatic invite because they were the conference regular season champs. USU would have been guaranteed an NIT bid if they lost in the conference tourney and didn't get an at-large. So it's not really an argument to say the WAC got hosed because Weber got in.
Time to move up | 11:20 p.m. March 16, 2009
Yadi, yadi, yada forget regional records and local Adelaides; been there done that. Ags, its time to pull yourselves up by the boot straps, get after it, do the job and win NCAA games.

As far as not wanting to schedule 2 or 3 away games for 1 at home; would you rather be right or happy?

Go Ags!
Mu Warrior | 8:24 a.m. March 17, 2009
JAred,

Thanks for the commentary you gave to the Cracked sidewalks Blog it was inciteful.

This is a contrast in styles. If MU can turn up the tempo and keep aggies on their heels, the game could get away from them quickly. A slow pace (and blocked up half court game) would definitely benefit USU.

Our team has not completly found their legs w/o point guard D James, but have improved and changed to adjust for it. Case in point, the second half comeback v Nova (which fell a point short).

By the way, what's with your mascot? ;)

Happy | 1:15 p.m. March 17, 2009
If you're happy and you're right, clap your hands! Clap clap!
