We have really, really incompetent people running these agencies and a Congress that takes nearly eight years to catch on to this particular one.

Pat

Well, I guess we all know what this means!
Further loss of personal freedoms, growing skepticism every time we open our mouths and our precious uniqueness in the world ending up in a garbage dump!
The accelerating loss of personal integrity has brought us to "leveling out" near the bottom of a dirty world.
When a people loose their attention to personal integrity and seeing to it that LAWS are upheld consistantly, the result is exactly what we now have...a joining of the lowest common denominator.
Our uniqueness and integrity are not retreivable, so just say "bye-bye" to the America once known.

And THIS is the government that has assumed MUCH greater control, if not de facto ownership, of large parts of the banking system.

Worse still, the government is now lead by the likes of Barney Frank, Maxine Waters, Chuck Schumer, Chris Dodd and dozens of equally incompetent and/or downright CORRUPT politicians!!

If we survive the next four years, I hope there will be enough common sense and righteous ANGER at the incompetence and corruption in government that "we the governed" will finally throw the real BUMS out and have enough honest and sincere people to fill their places.

Hey Sam

don't worry we just survived of the cause of this mess for that last 8 years...as in the war on terror yet left our borders open and if you ask many of those who came over without any passport chances are they have fake documents..and the supposedly honest construction, privat contractors who hire them condone such practices. Now we stand on the edge of ruin but it is greed that got us into this mess and these people really don't have that much allegiance to this country...they go by the addage that "this is Mexico" as in the 1500's and ignore the great constitution of this country, bought and paid for by all our true american forefathers who fought and died for it...I for one am tired of the addage and will support anti immigration like never before through laws.

I actually do investigations of counterfeit Passports and illegal use of true Passports. I know how many people pass in front of the Passport Officers in the States, and the Consular officers in our embassies overseas. I don't know what you do for a living, but if you have ever made a mistake, please understand that is what this is. I would guess that you don't know a single person working for the State department and so would ask that you not paint with such a broad brush.

Re: To Anon

4 out of 4 is much more than a "mistake" If it wasn't so scary, it would actually be kind of funny. This further demonstrates the systematic and rampant waste and incompetence of our government system. If so many of you weren't so complacent because or your employment in that fatal system, they might just be a chance to take power back and cleanse the system. In the meantime, enjoy riding on the shoulders of those that actually produce something in this country.

Buck Stops at Bush

It's funny all you republicans just can't help yourselves in blaming the democrats.

If you only use your head and remember as to who was minding the store when all these breach of security was happening. And even now Obama is in office, he is the one that has to fix the broken system.

If the people are incompetent, well who hired and trained these incompetence?

It doesn't matter how much driving lessons you give to a paid monkey, if he crashes the vehicle, then don't blame the monkey, blame the people that gave the keys.

Blaming those who are incompetent are as dumb as blaming the monkey.

So, if you want to blame someone, blame your own beloved Bush, because the buck stops at him.

If his people failed, then blame him for not chosing smart people in the first place.

Then you blame the people who voted him into office, the ones that gave the keys for him to 'drive' the country.

So, all you republicans you're all part of the stupidity and incompetence that goes around in this country.

Passport Agency

I just had the terrible misfortune of having to travel to the Chicago passport agency to renew my passport. To the person who "works" for the State Department, I think the verb "work" would be a bit of a stretch. Essentially, those who handle the issuance of passports in this country are a slight step above postal workers. I was appalled at the level of apathy and blatant laziness I encountered while attempting to figure out the mess the government had made out of my application. After attempting to escalate through the levels of incompetence, I gave up and had to turn around, drive home and return the next day. Apparently the government is "unable" to help those who are not leaving the country the next day. I was leaving in 48 hours, not 24 and so was not eligible for assistance. It is this Kafka-esque approach and lack of humanity that creates such resentment in the public. Thus, when news like this appears, it comes as no surprise. The whole 9-11 knee-jerk is nothing more than smoke and mirrors folks. Nothing to see here. Move along...

Soul

What is Obama doing now to resolve the obvious problem? Perhaps he can find smarter democrats to fix the passport problem onec and for all. Obama is the main man now. Let see some actions.

Obama

But isn't this the same loop hole that gave Obama his questionable birth certificate? That is funny to ask him to fix the problem.

mystery

You have the most incompetent supervisors and managers in many of the field offices, What did you actually expect to happen?

State needs to get a clue. Not holding my breath since DHS will most likely take over passport anyway.
