What a great idea! I'm going to ask my mother and grandparents to do this. I would love for my great-great-great grandchildren to hear their voices someday! It will bring their history to life.

So now I have the perfect excuse to continue to bore my kids with stories from my youth! Thank you -- I will show them your column and keep on talking!

We had my father leave his story on tape with YourStory last year and it's been a great gift. He passed away shortly after, but his history will be always be here for future generations. It is nice to know we can still hear him talk whenever we want to.

This was an excellent story. It was appropriate for the present generation; however it may be the vehicle for encouraging the oldest generation to realize that their posterity will really want to read and especially to hear their grandparents or great grandparents tell about the adventures they had "way back when". I know this true, because I have furnished my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren a written history, and, now, one of my sons put together a DVD, where I talk for more than an hour about my experiences during WWII and later. Already, my posterity have voiced their appreciation for receiving a copy of the DVD, which, by the way, is titled "Freedom is not Free". Once again, I will say that your Free Lunch article for March 12, 2009 was excellent.
