Congratulations Utah! Thank You Legislators (and insurance lobbyists) Instead of requiring insurance companies to stop the discrimination of children with autism and cover (maximum of 35K per year for children under the age of 9) proven early intervention medical treatments, we will now inherit the cost of providing for these children once they turn 18 to the tune of $3,500,000+ over their lifetime. You do the math!
So the insurance companies are off the hook and it's the TAXPAYERS who will be footing the bill for lifelong care when these kids grow up & are unemployable & living on welfare or in group homes. The citizens of Utah nedd to know that this effects EVERYONE, not just those living with autism.
This is very disappointing. Anyone with a child with autism knows that early intervention is key. It is too bad the legislators and lobbyists aren't smart enough to get it. Parents are doing everything they can afford to do for these kids. Autism therapies are very expensive and the kids as well as families will suffer. So will the taxpayers who are supporting the kids as they grow older and the teachers who teach them in school. If we can invest in these kids at a young age, we will be far better off as they grow older. The families are not the only ones who benefit. The schools will also benefit. Next time my legislators come up for re-election, I will be voting them out.
