Next story, please.
Thanks to all of you who participated.
And all they got were rolling eyes from legislators and work returned to normal. Nothing more than a pub stunt.
Tell this group to go back to the highschool drama closet were they belong. Hope you enjoyed your 15 minutes of fame!
Wrong word. Stupid.
democracy doesn't just happen in the voting booth on in the somber halls of the house and senate. good for them for standing up and getting their voices heard. something the founders of this nation understood a thing or two about.
This group basically has a storybook understanding of how government works.
Furthermore, if they looked closely, they would see that most of the issues were addressed.
HB 430 is a great example of how action is being taken on renewable energy.
A host of health-system bills, HB 165, 188, 331, and SB 79 were passed as a first step toward reform.
Given the fact that the state has a $1 billion revenue shortfall due to extenuating factors, the cuts to education could almost be viewed as a success.
I would advise this group to gain a deeper understanding of Utah politics before throwing out hollow accusations of "lobbyists" and "big money" which have no substance given their obvious lack of knowledge of how the process works.
So, better for them to not show up at all? I get it. If we actually had citizens that cared, who voted for represenation that wasn't self-serving, and bills worth something got passed there wouldn't be so much to whine and contend about on these comment boards.
So, most of you just sit back and type the same name-calling, "go away" comments you write about everything else. Nice.
I'm in awe of how ridiculous these young people are. Money controls politics, eh? Miss Sanders says they came in "a spirit of irony and resistance". Ah, tongue in cheek, eh?
The reality is, Miss Sanders is little more than an educated simpleton who goes around promoting hard-left causes, and whines about losing by impugning the winners as "corrupt".
You want Democracy, Miss Sanders, you have it. Don't believe that simply because the Naders of the world chalk up loss after loss to the establishment and corruption that your losses are, in reality, the citizens of America rejecting you as unserious and underserving of anything more than a chuckle and a roll of the eyes.
I get it, have you been involved with the state legislature at all. I'm curious about your familiarity with the process. Can you explain to me exactly how the vague concepts "protested" against by this group translate into reality?
Those who have made comments before, must be part of the often corrupt political power we call government. At least these people did a light-hearted comical theatre to get their point across. Too bad they couldn't do it where government is most corrupt. (Washington D.C.)
I'm glad to see young people getting involved in politics. It's obvious that our government leaders are swayed by gifts from lobbyists. It is not a "hollow accusation" to bring this to our attention.
Last time I checked, the "educated simpletons" just took over the nation. Who's "impugning the winners as 'corrupt'" now? Better get used to the "hard-left" causes for a while because it's pretty clear the side your cheering for is losing ground nationally despite Utah's perception of reality.
I'm glad these young people showed up and called some attention to the problem of Lobbyists and the "payoffs" to the legislature. Look no further than the strong arming of Energy Solutions, IHC, the teachers unions etc.! The ethics bills have been a joke as loopholes have been woven in! How many in the legislature only push their AGENDA that enhances and enriches them? Mike Noel comes to mind.
Are some of you actually defending the gifts (read bribes) that our legislators are getting from lobbyists? Really?
How dare this kids actually try to get involved in what their government is doing. They should sit at home in their undies and post on website news boards. Like you.
I was in attendance at the protest. Many of the individuals who were there are also a part of other organizations and movements. It was incredible to see the different people who came in support of their different issues. This was a good example of a peaceful protest, and most of all it was fun. It is a powerful feeling to know that at least you are making your views heard. I also know that everyone who attended has no illusions that this theatrical act is going to change history. But it is a part of it. We all write a legislators, but sometimes a little theatrics can make a bigger point. Hey we got in the Deseret News right?
As a long-time lobbyist and legislative observer, I can honestly say those kids hit the nail on the head and I congratulate them for speaking their minds so creatively. Most legislators aren't corrupt, but if you're not there, contribution and suggested bill in hand, they truly won't see the issue. Money not only talks, it hires attorneys and lobbyists to get the message through. Only the naive pretend otherwise.
It's absolutely, shameful (shameful!) the way these people actually DARE to go to the people's house and exercise their constitutional right to free speech. Why can't they just sit back and take it like the peons they are? After all, lunch and Jazz tickets will get you further at the Capitol.
It was funny & parodies how the government is actually run. Examples, lets start with the regressive "flatter" tax & go from there. Anyone who was offended has their head somewhere (the sand you sikkos) & needs to actually look at what is hapening in this country instead of hiding from it.
