How can Davis loose all 5 starters and be back in the Semi-Finals????
I'm a LP fan. Coach Welk should get coach of the year in the State of Utah.
Don't get me wrong, Davis players have heart, abilities, and attitude.
All combined my hat is off to Davis.

I was hoping for a PG/LP finals. It would have been a great game! Good luck
CJ. You have been a class act and it has been awesome watching you all these
years. You were covered much better by Davis than Skyline, and I could see you
getting tired. You played with heart and had a good tournament. GO HUSKIES!

Great game! nail biter for sure. I agree that Welk should get coach of the year.
He is consistently putting together good teams year in and year out. He
doesn't have all-star players, but the team plays as a team. Great coaching
on putting a smaller faster defender on Wilcox all night. You could see him
getting frustrated the entire night.

Regradless of officals thinking the game is about them and not the kids it was a
great game. CJ Wilcox showed you give him that much attention and he still can
score on you. Davis played great down the stretch even though they lost all the
big mo. They hit some big shots when they had to and that was the difference in
the game. Great game both teams.

Jay Welk is so impressive. His kids have got to be one of the best prepared,
best coached teams in the state. He does a remarkable job, and to have them back
so deep in the tourney after losing so many players, is true testament to his
coaching abilities!

So you are going to say that they were not holding CJ all night long? Would CJ
get away with the defense that was played on him? I guess he does not get star
treatment.

Why are you protecting Davis? What about PG's side of things? I heard
over and over again. The worst officiated game we have ever seen. This is
coming from reporters and refs that were watching the game.

Its good to see Davis's Jordan Welk (#10) finally get some attention. In
Davis offense and game plan he doesn't really get to be the star he is
capable of. but he is one of the elite players in the state. He showed his
offense capabilities against Copper Hills, and showed his defense and all around
game against P.G. last night. With 4 Steals, and 2 Blocks on CJ, also
frustrating CJ more than i believe he has been since the AAU days of The
Wildcats. Welk is an elite player, that can be a star in any system.

Coach Welk is a great coach and constantly gets teams to play together and win.
His teams have won the past 4 region championships. Last year was by far the
best team he has coached. They went 20-0 heading into the state playoffs. The
closest region game they had was 11 points. Most of the games were wins by 15 to
25 point blowouts. It just so happened that Lone Peak was on the same side of
the bracket with 4 Divison 1 players on there team. This years team has played
very good team basketball to get them to where they are at. Just like Lone Peak,
Davis is one of the elite basketball programs in the state. I am willing to bet
that some of the players that Davis, Lone Peak, and some other basketball
schools have to cut would make teams at other schools.

I would have to agree that the DHS/PG game had more blown calls than all of the
other games combined. The short ref with a crew cut needs to go. He is awful.

Personally, my favorite part of the games are at half time when the drill team
goes out and performs to show their school spirit. However, Davis had a great
game yesterday. i'm so proud of their hard work and dedication.

It was a great game, which, as the article says, "could have gone either
way." Congrats to Davis for pulling off the win.
I have to add kudos to Coach McCallister. He is one of the greatest guys I've ever met and I have been amazed by what he's done with his team over the year. Congratulations PG on a fabulous season!

As a Bingham fan, I have to say Pleasant Grove was on the short end of alot of
calls. The officiating was awful! Oh well, go Bingham!

Jay Welk is by far the best high school basketball coach in the state. For his
teams to perform the way they do year in and year out is a testament to his
abilities. Not only are thier results great, but they seem to be a very
disciplined group of fine young men. Congrats on a great year Davis!!

What an awesome game. MVP goes to Jordan Welk. His defense of CJ was what did
PG in. CJ was extremely frustrated, you could tell by the tech. He has to be
one of the most athletic players I've seen. But I would still take Haws,
he is the most poised smooth HS player I have ever seen. CJ could be an amazing
college player though, that kid is fast and his shot is amazing. I do admit
though that the refs were absolutely terrible, but it went both ways. I'm
way proud of Davis, they show up to play in the post season. There is no doubt
in my mind that Welk is the best coach in the state, he knows how to get the
most out of his players. He doesn't have the most talented players, but he
gets the most out of every single kid of the court. WJ will be a tough and
intense game, take it to em' Darts!

CJ could be the an incredible collage player? I doubt that, i doubt he even gets
much playing time at washington, who also has the number 1 point gaurd in the
nation signed in Abdul Gaddy... Washington rivals the highschool talent of NJ,
maryland, connecticut, and those states. I personally think washington was a bad
choice for cj, but oh well. And another congrats to coach welk and his team,
consistantly one of the best programs in the state. His son, Jordan Welk, is one
heck of a player... Should be a great match up between him and Gallegos in the
semi-finals

I would agree with the assessment of the officials. I have seen thousands of
games in person at all levels and that was pathetic on both sides PG has every
right to feel slighted. I have seen the short crew cutted ref 4 or 5 times this
year and he loves to be the show on the court. It's a shame that he was
"awarded" a 5A state quarterfinal game. He proved to be even worse
than I have seen in years!I hope he reads this. He should be ashamed of how he
called it last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

your are ridiculous to say cj wont see much playin time maybe you should know
what youre talking about before you say it. cj is clearly the best plaqyer in
the state. and he doesnt play point guard anyways hes a two guard so get your
facts straight. he will be great for the huskies. and welk wow kid is not good
he just gets away with whatever he wants. so many times the refs were watching
him hold cj and said they didnt want to call it

I watched the 3A boys championship game as well with the little ref calling them
there. Where do they get these guys. The guy is too short to make a call when
6'7+ kids are going at it. You would think that they would want the best,
of the best, of the best refing these games. These kids work too hard to get to
where they are at to be 'slighted' by bad calls. There should be a
higher standard. You don't need 'the little man syndrome' when
everything is on the line.

Give credit where credit is due. Welk held CJ to 6 of 18 shooting. He gets away
with whatever he wants? Seriously? The refs let him do whatever he wanted?
Sounds like sour grapes to me.

cj is a good player, and will develop nicely at Washington. As for welk he
played wilcox well. Welk is just a player that any coach would love to have.
The refs weren't calling anything both ways. It isn't like pg got the
short end of the stick they (the refs) were just as bad against davis. It was a
good game and both teams are very good.

Jordan Welk is one of the best athletes in the state. He did it in football and
now in basketball. Cj shouldn't feel bad it was just two great athletes
going at each other.

For the record, this state does not get to see what CJ does best. He can shoot
the 3 like no one you have ever seen. Over the summer, University of Miami,
Florida State, University of Washington, California, Iowa State, and others all
stated that they thought CJ was the best 3 point shooter in the country they
have seen in the last 3 years at his size. He can touch 11'8, higher than
any current player at Washington, his broad jump is further than anyone at
Washington, foot speed was 4th highest on the team at Washington, he shoots
better than anyone at Washington. Romar (Head Coach at UW) thinks his skill
level is extremely high! He also thinks CJ's upside is greater than anyone
he as ever seen (for a so call nobody). Remember at Washington, he will have
someone to create shots for him and not have to create his own.
I guess with knowing those facts personally. I can see why Washington would not want CJ. NOT!!!

Seriously??? While you're listing stats don't forget turnovers. He
must have had 7+ last night against PG. Kudos however, for the defense he played
on CJ. There is no way he has the athleticism to guard a guy like CJ, but he
does have the physique to body him up and wear him down, and that's just
what he did. Football is really his gig.

Congrats to davis being a region 1 fan it is great to see them do good, but when
this kids have been playing together basically since 7th grade, except for the
few coming from other jr. high teams. they have been coached by the same jr.
high coach who is the sophomore coach and is with them through high school as
well. there is a reason they are so prepared. now you can say teams play on comp
teams together and what not but i have been in the same situation. Playing comp
and school ball. and playing school ball since 7th grade with the coach that is
still on the davis staff and all that definitely helps.
Great job though davis! At least you can represent Region 1 cause nobody else can!

Do you play basketball it isn't always how athletic you are. Welk played
great defense and got cj all worked up throwing punches and getting techs. Davis
knew if they slowed down Wilcox they would win the game and that is what they
did. Davis is an winning program and PG is trying to get there.

defense?!?! I hate to break it to you but jordan welk is the most Athletic
player on the darts. He can jump out the building, and is super quick. Not only
is he the best defender on the darts, he's also the best pure scorer on the
darts. so talk what you want but this young man is a stud on the football field
and the court. And you seriously think CJ is the best in the state?! ha

By the way "anonymous" who said this team has been playing together
since 7th grade. Thats FAR FAR from true. Out of the main rotation (7 players)
only three went to kaysville and played under coach gardner. 2 went to
farmington, i'm pretty sure welk went to fairfield, and the Nye kid is from
the salt lake area. Last year was the first year they all played together
because the stars, (Welk, Daniels, and Cowswer) played up most the time with the
varsity team.

Welk is number ten right? As far as i'm concerned number ten has been one
of the top players i have seen in the tournament, as far as fulfilling his
assignment. His job was to score against copper hills and he did it in a variety
of ways, very impressive. And his job was to play d against pleasant grove and
he did a perfect job.

Wow, those were some incredible games Davis played, and that's quite
amazing they got back into the semi-finals for the second year, even though they
didn't have the undefeated record like last year, but they are as equally
skilled as last year's team, in my opinion. I wish the best of luck to
both Davis and West Jordan in the semi-finals, both teams should play a great,
tight game. If Davis continues playing its trademark defense and makes its
outside shots, plus a few extra close buckets, Davis should have the advantage
in that game, unless West Jordan wears them down somehow.

You need to read closer... I never said he didn't play great D, I just said
he didn't do it with elite athleticism as some of the other commenters on
this board have alluded to. He did it with strength and toughness, not speed and
athleticism. I also stand by the fact that he had WAY too many turnovers. I
haven't seen him play much until the past week, but from what I've
seen he tries to do too much. He's a solid player but clearly not the most
athletic kid on his team. From what I've seen of them (the game against
W.J. earlier this year, and the tourney to date) Davis has a very athletic back
court. Daniels and Nye are both quicker and more athletic, and definitely more
protective of the ball. Not sure who we'll have guarding him tonight but
all of our guards have quick hands. Look for many, many more turnovers.
