We are praying for you Paul. You inspire us all.
This is a beautifully written article. All people should think about being organ or tissue donors, and have it expressly said in their documentation and to family members. Many times it becomes a voodoo subject, and is avoided, but with each healthy individual a gift could be given long past the death of a loved one.
Good luck, Paul!
What a beautiful story, and what an inspiration Paul is to us. I hope and pray he will find his new heart soon. This story also serves as a great reminder to take care of our own physical hearts, and to treat our family and friends with more much more kindness.
Thank you.
Wonderful article. If it inspires even one person to become an organ donor, that will be even more wonderful.
Profoundly touching article, as is Mr. Cardall's music. I recently downloaded his album Faithful to my iPod and find it very gentle, soul-nurturing and beautiful - songs of the heart indeed.
Best of luck, Mr. Cardall. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I am generally against organ donation, but this is one person for whom I would consider it. I live in the same neighborhood as Paul, and this article does not whitewash him-it is an accurate representation of a genuinely good person.
As much as this article, and Mr. Cardall's challenges cause stinging tears and my own heart to ache, it also serves to illuminate our condition as a people today. 6 comments and well wishes here, with other headlines such as Utah #1 in www porn use, Rush Limbaugh the hot air KING, and Prop 8 garnering HUNDREDS of comments. I guess it's apples and oranges, but the popular idea of what really matters is discouraging at best, and just plain sick at worst.
I KNOW the answers, but I still shout into the wind why, Why, WHY!!
Paul, I pray your miracle has already been arranged and will be reallity very soon.
Hey Neighbor--why on earth are you generally against organ donation? And if you are against it, why is organ donation acceptable for Paul--why not for everyone?
Paul, your positive attitude is amazing, and my prayers are with you and your family. I know so well what you have gone through and what you are facing now. I recieved my heart 17 yrs ago and words cannot express the gratitude I have for the family of my donor. Best of luck and may God be with you.
I've been inspired by this article.
My father-in-law was never comfortable with organ donation before, then his first grand child, my son, was born with nearly the same condition as Paul. My son started out on the transplant list, but would have died waiting, so he's had 13 heart surgeries - he's only five years old. Thousands of children are living with broken hearts, and they go through several surgeries just to stay alive. Until more research happens to find better alternatives, like Paul, transplant looms large down the road for my son too.
Paul, thanks for being an inspiration for hope in moms like me. Many prayers that a family who is facing the worst moment of their own lives will find the strength to give the greatest gift to those in need. People who can transcend their grief long enough to spark hope are truly to be admired. Sadly, too few people can do that.
My daughter was born in 1983 with tricuspid atresia. She had her Fontan 20 years ago. By the grace of God, she continues to do well.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope that a heart if found soon.
I have been so inspired by your story. You are amazing and we are praying for you.
Paul your story is one of hope and faith for us all. Know that one day you to will receive the blessings of a donor. Thanks for sharing and may the Lord bless you and your family.
Paul and Family- This was a fantastic article. Thanks you all for being so wonderful. We know how wonderful organ and tissue donation can be.
Thank you! You are an inspiration to everyone.
Thanks Paul for being such an inspiration and many prayers as you await a new heart. I have a daughter thats 4 yrs. old that has under gone 4 open heart surgeries. As a parent my wish, would be to have her grow up to be such a great example like you.
Paul, in addition to using supplemental oxygen, have your doctors considered using a Bipap machine at night when sleeping? I went into right heart failure 16 yrs ago and now sleep with that machine and oxygen. It REALLY helps rest your heart and breathing muscles. You simply put the mask on when you are ready to sleep. I'd recommend contacting Dr. Robert Farney at LDS hospital for more information. Best wishes!
Brother Cardall, You can never know how many people you've impacted. I was introduced to your music in my early morning seminary class my junior year just 3 years ago, and since then I find your music to be one of comfort, and a constant companion when I'm happy and sad, reflective of my life, and pondering about the scriptures and my purpose on this earth. My prayers are with you. Keep the faith. I know you and your beautiful family will be blessed for who you are, and the values that you uphold, and the heavenly music that you have introduced to the world. As a pianist, when asked to play musical numbers in Sacrament Meeting, my eyes can only turn to your music. I love you and your family. If I never get the chance to thank you in person, know that there's at least one person out there that is grateful for such a talented and beautifully spiritual person. :)
What a beautiful family you have. Paul thank you for being such a great example to all of us. You are truly courageous and a very righteous man. We truly have all been impacted by your story, Thanks again for sharing your amazing talent with all of us and letting us all feel the spirit, you have enriched many people's lives including mine. We pray that your family may feel peace and comfort.
