Observation

Both Austin and Haws appear to me to be legitimate D1 players. Haw's game is smooth and there were times when his shots barely touched the net on their way through. I'm glad they will be staying home and playing instate once their respective high school carrers are over.

Riverton's effort was doomed by soft play, which is usually the case for their early exits from the state tournaments. Riverton had all the intangibles this year to make a deep run, but they continue to lose unexpected games (Copper Hills) during region play that ultimeitly hurts them come tournament time. Well at least now they don't have to face their rival (Bingham) in the semifinals.

Riverton

5:25 pm?

Ernest T. Bass

I heard he's as good a Luke Staley.

Riverton Fan

I would agree with the comments above. Every offensive possession for us looked slow and seemed to be grind just to get a shot off. I was impressed with LP's shot selection. They took what was given. In the first quarter, the 10-15 foot jump shots killed us. I have only seen LP play two games this year but they do look very well coached. Unlike Riverton where it's either a three or a point blank lay up. They seemed to just get into the flow and play. As for Riverton I think it hurts the team as a whole when the offense must be run through one player first. Plus when we struggle we dont have anyone else to go to on the bench. Riverton only keeps six to seven seniors and cuts the rest. I do not know if this is a common practice or not but it does not leave much depth on the bench and it showed tonight. Plus Riverton does not seem to develop the players they do have.We are always looking for something new.I think this is the difference between us and the school to the north.

NOPE

Austin isn't D1. Kid can't bench 150. How could he handle a Neville. And don't say he can put on weight and muscle. You don't think he's already tried his whole life? Look at LEE CUMMARD

Lone Peak

Comment for NOPE. At least Austin weighs more than Josh Sharp. Hahaha. Who cares about Nevill anyhow? He's a senior. Geez, like what's that got to do with anything??

Hey, too bad Boylen spent all that time recruiting Haws and came up empty. Now you Utes will have to deal with him for four years, I'm glad I'm not a Ute basketball fan.

duh

are you serious, all the early exits from the state tournaments ? did you forget both 2006 & 2007 they played in the state championship games ? How soon we forget, I wouldnt call those early exits.

Re: Riverton Fan

For being a Riverton fan you really don't have that much good to say! Sounds like a sour senior to me! If you were really a true Riverton fan, you would also know that we are about ten deep and there are multiple games throughout the season where we have four guys in double figures! Friel had less than five points in a blowout victory over PG this year! Sounds like the offense flowed in that one! And keeping more seniors doesn't give you a deeper bench. There is always one or two juniors/sophomores who are better than the 6th, 7th and 8th seniors. Thats why they don't get kept. Happens in every other program around the state too!

TO "Riverton Fan"

You are not a "Riverton Fan". You obviously have an ax to grind.

Super Duper!

We're glad you're not a Ute fan as well, LP.
Haws is good, no doubt. To think that he will be better than anyone else Utah (or other teams in the MWC) is naive at best.

Riverton Fan (not)

No ax to grind, don't even have a boy in the program now. He gradutated a while ago. Loss to Bingham ring a bell. I do have a friend who's son is on the team but he never says much either way. This is just my thoughts regarding the program and what I see from the outside and my sons brief time there. As to your comments about seniors, soph's etc. Maybe they should try it old school see how it turns out. There is something to be said for been there done that. and I am sorry but I did not see the impressive soph, or junior yesterday or at any of games I made it to this year. It really does not matter how the offense flowed at the begining of the season. Take a look at how you finished the season thats when it counts. I don't mean yesterday.Look at the program as whole. I do find it amusing how quick every one is to assume I have a boy on the team and I just want to smear the program. Sounds like you know how to make excuses for losing

the public

haws is bomb

Get a life

Riverton Fan, you are so lame. Riverton has one of the top boys basketball programs in the state. How many teams can say they have played in 2 state championships over the last few years? I played for coach Galley at WJ a few years ago, he is a good coach.

Riverton Fan You Are Not

Your been there done that argument with the whole senior deal is not valid. Look at the Riverton roster and you will see that they start five seniors and have two more coming off the bench, for a total of seven seniors. The most seniors they have probably kept in the ten year history for the team. Looks like been there done that did not get it DONE! Every team tries to plug in a stand out junior or sophomore! What if lone peak did it your way with Haws? I guarantee you they wouldn't be playing for a third straight title this week. Even Riverton with Morgan Grim as a junior, almost won the state championship! You think if they would have started an average senior that year it would have made up for that one point? Don't think so! Riverton had a senior team and they had one hell of a year and if you were any Riverton fan you would have acknowledge that even once!

riverton superfan

above we see a nice smear attempt at a very good, very consistant program and a very good coach....galley 10 years and only 3 first round exits-wow!...and an honest, straight forward guy to boot...galley we appreciate you, don't fall for the uniformed ignorance of a few cheap shot bloggers all because of a loss to a very talented LP team. Another great season-thanks coach galley!!

LP Fan

I agree with "Riverton Superfan" Riverton has an awesome program and has gone far in recent past tournaments. It's not fair to attack the program or coach at Riverton they obviously have been working hard and have had the score board to back them up most of their games being close. Riverton you guys are great. GO LONE PEAK!

Riverton Program

No excuses, none needed. Riverton has a good program and we had a great year.It was fun to watch! I think the best team won on Wednesday. Tough to hear but true. As for the comments above who cares, we know who we are and thats what counts. As for the argument about underclassmen versus seniors I have seen both systems work, but I do not think it would have changed the out come of the game this week. What matters is that our kids played their hearts out nobody likes to lose but unfortunately there is only one winner, not everybody gets a trophy. Its not Junior Jazz.I for one had a great time this year and loved watching our boys play. I thought they did hell of job. We will put another quality team on the floor next year (seniors included) and see what happens. Again thanks to both our boys and girls for a great year!
GO Wolves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seniors always best?

As a coach, had a conversation with Coach Lewis from LP once about seniors. His first year he only kept two. I said "I remember watching so and so play last year, why didnt you keep him? He could have played for me,thought he was pretty good. His reply, "He was good, but if there is an underclassman that is better than the senior, he plays, and the senior is usually cut. You always have to build your experience for the future. Besides, when you have seniors sitting on the bench, unless on the VERY rare occaision they understand their role, it becomes a cancer with them sitting there grumbling, and to those players parents in the stands". I tried it, he's right. Seems to be working for him too. Sometimes we as coaches get too caught up in making the hard decision at cut time, and then end up paying for all the baggage that emotion brings all year. And think about it, to my knowledge he has done what he has done at LP with all in boundary players. Not like some schools who's success would be much different without them.

Riverton Seniors Right Call

I think it is pretty clear cut. Most coaches and teams try to play their best players. Riverton played a predominantly senior team because the seniors were the best players in the program. For any observers to criticize the emphasis on Riverton seniors playing would be very shortsighted. It was the right thing to do this season. Credit to the coaches for playing the right guys, in fact, the coach's own junior son didn't get varsity time. How often do you see that in today's world?
