why bother

I think more people would vote if two or more parties existed here. Outside of Salt Lake its a one-party state. Why vote when the outcome is a forgone conclusion - an extension of the theocracy.

i would vote if it really made a dif but demonrat or reflubrican just dont fit my voting style!

Cecil D.

Take the control of primary elections away from Politicl Party insiders and give it to the people. Direct primary elections with every candidate who files on the ballot. Put the TOP TWO in the general election.
If the voters, rather than the Party insiders, chose the candidates they will be more interested in the final elections.

Knowwhat

Put in term limits on all public offices. That will increase voter turn out.

i agree with Cecil D on taking the votes from the political party and giving it to the people. this state is ruled by a conservative republican party. putting those two together you wont get much change. but the people most of the time feel diffrent. so what do we have to lose.

Find a way to stop gerrymandering the voting districts so that the peoples voices can actually be heard and counted. Why vote when the outcome is decided before the voters even go to the poles.

Fair Voter

FairVote: The Center for Voting and Democracy has good information about what voters outside of Utah are doing to create competitive and representative multi-party democracies.

The Governor's Commission should get in contact with those folks, and citizens interested in reforming our broken democracy should get involved with FairVote.

There are several problems: 1. Many citizens are just too lazy to get involved politically. 2. Since they are too lazy to get involved they become cynical and claim that there is no hope. 3. Some say take the candidate selection from out of the party, but then you have no need of a party. We have non-partisan local elections and even fewer get involved in these. 4. A major problem is that the electorate is simply uninformed on political issues. 5. They place too much emphasis on electing a "King of the United States," and pay too little attention to congress, our governor, state legislature and local offices. Too many only seem to care if their "King" wins or loses.
