Mark, please push the Anti-Trust lawsuit for all it's worth and expose the BCS for the fraud it is!
It's time for a real playoff. My choice would be 16 teams. All the FBS conference champions, I believe that's 12, plus four at large.
Include the Big Four Bowls in the playoff system. So that you have four regional champions; Orange, Sugar, Rose and Fiesta who fight it out for the National Championship. The interest in all the games would be HUGE! And a whole lot of fun to watch.
Well, it's good to know what the priorities are in Shurtleff's organization. He'll spend considerable state resources grandstanding on an issue the BCS has already agreed to work on.
This is America where we believe in competition, not entitlement. The BCS is a shameful monopoly that funnels wealth to the few at the expense of many. It should be broken up. Utah and BYU are not the only schools being hurt. I applaud Mark Shurtleff's efforts.
Go for it Mark. As a loyal Cougar, I was at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans and it was one of the most fun nights of my life. We screamed like crazy for Utah.
When BYU won the National Championship in 1984, the BCS was formed to make sure that didn't EVER happen again. A school from the mountain states just wasn't supposed to be National Champion. I think the Utes got robbed this year and it's time something was done about this ridiculous monopoly that the BCS has on who gets to succeed.
There's a lot of money and prestige at stake here. Let's give our Utah schools a chance to show what they can really do. I hope BYU can have another shot at a national championship. Under the current system, no Utah (or mountain states) school will have a chance.
GO FOR IT, MARK! The people of Utah are behind you.
I'm sure this will finally change the BCS! What a joke. This just makes non-BCS conferences look petty and vindictive. Hardly the stuff that credibility is built on.
Do it Mr. Lawyer, Sir. It's a total joke and everyone hates it. Get rid of it. May the truly best team win, not the team from the right conference with the most money.
Most of us agree that the BCS is unfair but trying to do something about it is always just talk. The person that actually does something about it will go down in history as a hero. Good luck Mark Shurtleff.
It's about time Shurtleff earns his pay. He's always got his nose into making laws when his job is to defend the state and the people.
I'm a BYU fan, but think that Utah deserved better than they got. I think they had a shot at beating Florida, but we'll never know, because of the biased and unfair system. The BCS is a rigged game. Everybody knows that. Duh. And the stupidity of the BCS defending itself...the idiotic statements. Geez. Most 7th graders can see through that smoke screen.
It sucks the utes weren't national champs. The BCS needs to be revamped.I'm a cornhusker by birth and a ute by transplant. The BCS is to slanted.
I back Mr. Shurtleff on this. It will not take as much time or money as many people think. If he pursues the antitrust suit, a time will come when the BCS and the larger conferences see the writing on the wall, and make the changes necessary to cure the problems. They already know it's wrong.
The BCS is a travesty and should be done away with. However, this is a tremendous waste of taxpayer resources. At a time when state employees are losing their jobs because of budget shortfalls, the AG should not be using what little resources remain on this issue.
I was born and raised in the shadow of Rice Stadium, and am as loyal a Ute fan as there will ever be - but STOP WASTIING YOUR TIME Mr. Shurtleff!
Is this really the proper role of government? We are in the toughest economic recession in decades and Shurtleff is wasting taxpayer dollars on a playoff system.
It's just grandstanding for that Senate run he plans on making. Give me a break.
First of all, I'm a huge college football fan. I think that Utah was disrespected for not getting a title shot as the only unbeaten, just as Boise St. was a few years ago, however, it seems like there are a lot more important things that Shurtleff could be doing with his time.
Mark Shurtleff and Barack Obama on the same page about ANYTHING political? Well, football ain't politics -- it's more like religion. What a great country we live in!
Go Mark! Bring honor back to an American tradition. Unfortunately the greed of some fat cats has tainted the system.
Wow, if Obama moved college football towards a playoff system I might actually like at least one thing that he does!
I sincerely hope that before anyone jumps on the Shurtleff bandwagon they do factual research on his antics in office. This man is not what he wants people to think he is. Republicans are going to have to wake up and vote record instead of party if they really want to make a change. Shurtleff frightens me. He truly does.
Your not a loyal Cougar fan! give me a break! go Mark!
