All this is nonsense. It's a recycling of The coming Ice Age from the 70's, Global Warning of the 90's this climate change of this decade cause the other terms weren't working.

Just redistribution of wealth from the oil companies to the solar companies. How much $ does Al Gore have in alternative energy?

If we had millions more of these endangered, threatened, extinct species like caribou, bison, elephants, polar bears, etc... breathing out lots of CO2 - like the cattle and pigs farmers are paying carbon taxes on or soon will be, the environmentalists wouldn't be calling for a reduction in their numbers.

Nuclear power is clean, clean coal exists. If nuclear is good enough for France and Iran why not the USA?

Nuclear waste for Utah

Re: K -- "If nuclear is good enought for France and Iran, why not the USA?"

If nuclear is so great, why do foreign nations using nuclear want to send their waste to Utah? Socialist nations can easily do nuclear power because they have get the tax base necessary to subsidize the industry -- from insurance to the water needed to produce the nuclear power to the transportation of waste to the safe-guarding/treating of the waste.

Which Barrus Face

I find it interesting that one face of Representative Barrus it telling us that it is important to protect our coal-fired power plant industry - while the other face is telling us that he doesn't want a power plant built in his district that doesn't burn natural gas (HB393 that he, himself, killed). It seems that even his two faces aren't sure which one is the leader.

A real economic analysis would ensure that all forms of energy that we use reflect "true" costs including all those that are "externalized" onto society as a whole--now and in the future. Furthermore, the costs of addressing climate change must be weighed against the near infinite costs of doing nothing to stop the acceleration of the infusion of greenhouse gasses into Earth's atmosphere on which all forms of life depend for now and forever. Consequently, I favor a true cost accounting, for it will drive further sorely-needed climate change legislation.

to p.

How do you get near infinite costs of doing nothing. One major point left out is man is responsible for 2% of all carbon dioxide released in the atmosphere each year. Scientist say they don't know where one half of all carbon dioxide released each year disappears to, but it does. This is one of the reasons for the failed satilite launch a few days ago. And if the earth does get warmer, what is the correct temperature. And if species go extinct then what is the problem? They have in the past. Thats part of evolution. What are the knee jerk costs associated with the church of global warming. How much have you paid in indulgences for forgivness of your footprint. Carbon Cap's are the new tea tax for existing.

to P.

As it now stands any new attempt to drill, mine or create nuclear energy is required to deal with enviromental and social cost analysis to be justified. Why shouldn't climate change legislation be reauired to meet the same tests?

RE; Nuclear waste for Utah

Lets NOT sread ignorance and fear.

Waste being sent to utah would NOT be from a nuclear reactor.

Believe or not there are other waste products contain low levels of radiation, that must taken care of and can be easily.

There are many many product we use daily that contain elements that are radioactive. But in such small amounts they are not dangerous.

But proper disposal requires cmpanies that have means to do it.

But NOT talking about waste from nuclcear reactors.

DO NOT confuse the two.

It's just spreading ignorance and fear.

Reason

Good for Barrus. Our esteemed governor is out of control in his politically correct zeal to make a national name for himself, on environmental issues as well as others.

Y. says

Our esteemed governor is foolhardy for believing environmentalist greenie scientist at elitist liberal government funded institutions such as BYU. Those tree-hugger BYU profs are saying things like-

"...my work in remote sensing has helped me realize that we are affecting the planet. I believe God expects us to be good stewards of our world." Copy and paste into a search engine to find the full article at BYU News Net.

"The scientific community really has come to a point where, with the exception of a few very vocal skeptics, we actually do recognize that change in greenhouse gas composition changes climate. Climate has changed it's going to have far-reaching impacts." Copy and paste into a search engine to find the full Des News article.

We know the end is near when BYU profs are buying into this hogwash.
