Ms. Udell grew up in a state that was much, much more polluted than Utah is right now. Yet, she has the faculties to be able to tell scientists and engineers how to do their jobs. She wants her children to enjoy clean air all the time, but by putting her precious little kids in a sterile environment, she is only making them more susceptible to every little bug that comes along. Ask the Hawaiians. Ask the pediatricians who tell us that having a pet in a home and constantly subjecting children to pet dander increases children's ability to handle airborne particles and pathogens. Perhaps Ms. Udell is just out looking for a cause - I suggest she drive her SUV home and take care of her kids because in the end, natural selection will, indeed, win. Her ranting only delays the inevitable, and may even enpower it.
Always use caution with scary statistics, especially those that relate environment with health. Further studies often find problems with them because the environment we live in is a chemically and biologically complicated place.
Congrats to Jason Olsen for not allowing his students to be unwittingly used as mouthpieces to advocate the political views of activist adults. Shame on Cherise Udell for exploiting the students. Also, the masks are a little over-the-top.
I don't understand....we are willing to send our young men and women to Iraq to die and kill in the name of spreading demcracy, but we are not willing to let our students participate in a day at the legislature and a clean air rally - both of which are valuable experiences for future voters??? Something is very wrong here!!!!!
So let me get this straight, all of you dissed this rally don't think striving for clean air is a worthwhile goal?
Furthermore, these kids get the fact that the air is polluted and that it negatively affects their health, not to mention their recess outdoors. Why should they not be allowed to make their voices heard? At this event with the kids, Utah Moms for Clean Air wasn't advocating for anything but an improvement in our air quality. Why is this so controversial? I think some people are just very uneasy with activism and challenging the status quo in a visible manner.
Re: Sue and Cheetah Girl: This is the same group that, several days ago at a similar rally, included a three year old girl wearing a gas mask and carrying a sign. Thats not children merely participating in the political process, its exploitation of little kids to promote the political views of the adults (besides the fact that the gas mask is a an over-the-top lie with regard to Utahs air quality).
