Well, if they start selling that kind of beer. The crime rate should shoot up. RIGHT?

I am still wondering why the State of Utah (aka Government) is again interfering with legislation to inflict it's morality upon the citizens of this great state.

I again am for less government in our lives. After 8 years of the Government interfering, raising the deficit, taxing and spending, why cant they just but out. This again looks and stinks of special interests groups again meddling in the rights of the people. Who are our politicians working for?

I mean come on, in the battle of San Jacinto, April 21st 1836 men died to free us from oppression, and terrine so all people could live in Utah without the heavy hand of Government.

Why is government interfering again?

I use to be the General Manager for a large Liquor Store in Boulder/Longmont area of Colorado. The beer that you are refering to 3.2 beer isn't called near beer in Colorado. Near beer is actually referred to non alcohol beer that has .5% of 1% of alcohol or less. We referre to 3.2 beer as 3.2 beer both those in the alcohol industry and the consumers. Most only use to buy 3.2 on Sunday because the Liquor store used to be close but that is no longer the case.

I don't see why the Mormons have such an issue with bars at all - they don't go into them and they don't purchase what is sold there so what difference does it make?! All they are trying to do is push their morals and values on other people.

The alcohol policies of UT do nothing but alienate potential tourists and reduce tax income. I can not tell you how many times I have heard of skiiers WANTING to come here only to end up in another state because they don't think they can get a beer after coming off the slopes.

I applaud the new measures trying to get passed through that will bring this state at into at least the last century. More importantly though, they will make this state more appealing to tourists and increase alcohol tax revenue.

Finally i can stop going to ummm somewhere else to get real beer!!!!
Anonymous | 3:45 p.m. March 3, 2009
wrong!!! I don't think you mormon's realize that the way the laws are currently, Utah support's alcoholism.
I mean you HAVE TO bye a six pack, you can't just buy 1 bottle? And increasing the alcohol in beer will make 90% of us drinkers drink less...why? because we caught a buzz after 1 or 2 drinks. what kinda sence does this make huh I almost forgot the people passing these crazy laws don't drink.

They finally figured out that we're buying beer out of state and aren't receiving there tax on it. It's about time I can buy a real beer!
RE: THEeyepatch
First thing I'm gonna do when they pass this law is get drunk and harass some mormons-NO just kidding!
I wonder what John Charity Spring would say about this-I'm sure he'll say we need to revert to old values of blah, blah, blah.

The government has no business regulating alcohol in the first place. The government's sole purpose is to protect us from crime and foreign invasion.

The social costs of alcohol exceed the social costs of tobacco
Perhaps as soon as the hypocritical intelligentsia tire of drinking, the same way they got tired of smoke blown in their face, then we can stop blaming Mormons and simply worry about public health.
The irony of no-smoking bars LOL
BTW I am not Mormon

John Charity Spring:
I really do apologize for that last one, I was only joking.
Can you ever forgive me?
It's good to have people like you in this great country looking out for what this country was founded upon.
Naruto | 4:45 p.m. March 3, 2009
Oh yeah, by the way, the founding forefathers were brewing beer and wine when they first arrived in this country and exporting it back to Europe.

Grant, you've confused me. The article talks about the legislature possibly removing a restriction currently in place and you're complaining about restrictions. Aren't they talking about doing what you want?

I can see it now... Stella, Pilsner Urquell, Heineken, New Castle and Fat Tire on draft in Utah bars and nightclubs.

the amount of alcohol in a beer really does affect the way it tastes. for those of us who "endure" 3.2 beer, this is great news. beer with more alcohol actually _tastes_ better (it's not all about getting wasted, much as you prudes all wanna believe that), and that alcohol content is exactly what the brew master wants to interact with his/her other ingredients, hops, barley, malt...this would be great, too, because of the added variety of beers that would be available in restaurants, bars, etc. hope is passes the senate!

"The government's sole purpose is to protect us from crime and foreign invasion."

Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution disagrees with your assertion. Congress is tasked "to lay and collect taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States."

I'm all for relaxing Utah's antiquated liquor laws and think this is a good move, but at least get your facts straight.
reality? | 8:19 p.m. March 3, 2009
has anyone else ever noticed reality check rarely says anything that is real or supported by evidance?

Re: Grant........U no why-the legislature is by sheer numbers mostly LDS. they want us to live in their shadow at all times.
