Way to Go Warriors! Proud of Ya!
good weber, way to show that region one isnt as weak as all these wizards say it is, you dominated alta the whole game.
Carson you are the man!
I'm proud of Coach Sims. The Man has fought through a lot of adversity over the last few years. He's had some close losses and tough defeats, but like his team ,he's hung in there. He's finally finishing those close games. I wouldn't bet against him.
Region 1 is weak but fortunately for Weber they got to play against an even weaker region in their first round game and play Alta unlike the other teams in Region 1 who had to play region 3.
Region 2 went 0-4 for the day.
P.S. Region 2's girls team all went 0-4 last week too.
Nice showing this year region 2. You were hands down the weakest region.
It is too bad when two teams play as hard as they did to have the referees decide the outcome with one-sided no-calls. As stated in the article, Weber was allowed to play their "aggressive game." Yet Alta was called for every little ticky-tack maneuver, while getting elbowed, body-slammed and clobbered all night. You can call it an upset, but in reality it was a gift form the zebras.
You may call it an upset, in reality it was a gift as the foul calls seemed to be rather one-sided.
There were only 18 fouls called the whole game. How is that calling Alta for every ticky tack maneuver. Don't get me wrong. I Am an Alta fan. But Alta has always been a rough and tough team the prefers a physical style of game over finesse. This team was given the chance to play that style and blew it. I don't care if you only get five free throws in a game. You make them or you go home. Guess what? Our Hawks went home. You say it was one-sided. If there were only 10 free throws taken and we took five, that means Weber took only five as well. Not lop-sided at all. Make intelligent comments here please, so the rest of us aren't embarrassed.
In response to Prep Fan.....Tell me if this is one-sided!
Fouls Called in First Half on Alta: 3
Fouls Called in Second Half on Weber: 3
Fouls called in Second Half on Alta: 7
Fouls called in Second Half on Weber: 5
Sounds one-sided to me!
It was a repeat of the game in December at Weber. It was low scoring and Weber was with Alta. Alta had a three point lead going to the 4th and they scored the first 8 points of the 4th to win by 11. That game in December was closer than most people thought!
Weber came and wanted to prove a point that they are better than their record because they have lost many close games this year. Davis by 3. Davis by 6. Riverton by 2. Viewmont on a buzzer beater by 1. This is a team that people haven't given credit to and they like to play defense!
Bingham v. Weber is a rematch of last years 1st round that was a low scoring affair!
After years of Alta getting away with playing rugby instead of basketball, it's great to see them get beat at their own style of "basketball". Shame on Alta's program that teaches brutality instead of fundamentals. Shame on crappy Utah officials who have allowed that style to go unchecked for so many years.
take that alta
Way to go Weber! Do it again tomorrow against Bingham.
Nice job Weber! We stayed after the Clearfield game and heard comments on how Alta was going to "blow Weber away" and that it wouldn't even be a contest. Way to represent for Region 1. Nice win.
weber boys and weber girls beat the region champs! thats right. GO WEBER!!
Alta's head basketball coach is over fighting for our country, the assistant coaches are doing everything they can to help Alta compete. Give them a break, they are learning.
OOOOOFFF!!!
Go Weber!
To "USA"...
Coach Barker is the head coach at Alta now. Tony Cannon was actually at the game watching, and he is no longer coaching. "Give them a break, they are learning"... say what? Alta won the region this year, we just came out flat against Weber and lost. It happens, relax!
I would not say that a foul shooting difference of 10-5 is "one sided" at all. In fact, there were very few foul calls made in the game, and neither team hit the bonus in either half until the last 30 seconds of the game when the kid was fouled in the act of shooting and that was the 7th foul.
If you want to gripe about a one sided foul shooting count, go talk to Jordan who was outshot 24-3 in their game right before we played.
Alta's inside presence killed them in this game. We scored a total of 4 points inside. Alta guards gave up the ball to the posts too many times and I think this cost them the game. Our shots weren't falling and we couldn't buy a free throw. Alta is a much better team but Weber came out and played; sadly we did not. USA: Coach Barker is the Head Coach and hopefully Cannon will be assisting him in the coming years. Yes, region two went 0-4 but I can tell you that it doesn't mean the region was weak, just coincidence. Skyline, Brighton, Jordan and Alta are all good teams. Alta needs a big man that can produce for next year.
One last thing, the two calls the girl ref made against Ammon Olsen for boxing his defender out were terrible. Sitting Ammon hurt us and that ref needs some more experience before refereeing state boys games. Sad thing is, I think she has been refereeing for quite some time now.
Jazzfan,
As for your comment about Alta needing a big man for next year we'll have to see what they come up with. But know this one thing they have a young man that will be coming up thru the ranks. He'll join the team this year as a ninth grader but watch out - his name is Dayon Goodman and I've watched him play for AAU for the last 4 years and this kid DOMINATES the glass on both ends. And its no coincidence that his last name is GOODMAN, he is actually the kid brother to Javon Goodman(Alta'a starting big man on this years varsity team). The difference between the two is like night and day. This kid WILL be awesome!! He played AAU for coach Proctor, and has recently joined a different elite group of 14yrs. old that travel to play ball. The kid is 14 and I'm guessing around 6'5" It will be very interesting to see if Alta's able to build a team around this young man. I watched him play a tournament at Bingham, the kid is very impressive!!!!
