Jay Evensen: Waddoups looking bewildered

I'd love to hear from 'active' LDS folks (those who don't drink alcohol) what they think of this bill, and exactly how it might benefit society?
I mean, 'hiding' the mixing of alcoholic drinks or the pouring of a beer is supposed to provide some kind of guarantee that our precious, naive little children will never drink alcohol?
I don't get the paranoia. This shouldn't be a 'Mormon vs. Non-Mormon' issue - it should be an issue on common sense and freedom. Joseph Smith once said "Teach them correct principles and let them govern themselves". If you don't want your kids to drink, teach them, educate them....don't sweep it under the rug and pretend it's not there.
Sheesh....
What he says: we have to reign in Federal Spending. What he does: signs the largest spending bill in American History.
What he says: We have to end our dependence on Foreign oil..
What he does: voids legally sold oil leases in Utah
What he says: we need clean energy
What he does: ends funding for Yucca Mountain. In effect, we will have none of the cleanest known source of energy (nuclear power)
and on and on
This ambivalence also represents the desire of some ordinary citizens to be popular. This is also done in the predictable way of sacrificing morality because it isn't popular enough.
I suppose it also explains why a newspaper, even the Deseret News, at one and the same time may claim to permit all postings that are on point and not abusive, but then frequently does not allow a poster to be plain about his feelings about gay activism, even when absolutely on point, and unqaccompanied by the abuse that is actually permitted multiple times and on a daily basis from gay activists and sympathisers.
Buttars just stated his opinion (something all Americans should do). His opinion may have been wrong, evil or stupid, but we've never been about squashing someone for having an opinion that wasn't Politically Correct.
I also agree all the posters who have roasted Buttars on this website have that right and obligation. You go for it! That's what America and free speech are all about.
But I don't like Waddoups using his political power to squash another for voicing an opinion that isn't PC.
When a politician thinks it's all right for him to use his position to punish people for exercising their right to free speech... it's time for the electorate to decide... is this the way we want political power to be used?
The correct way to remove a politician from his position of power is by voter demand... not by Waddoups' decree.

Dear Mr Evenson. If you wrote more like this, I would read more. I hate long op-eds that pretend objectivity but get no where near it. This is too short to hide it.
