Ok, I'm bad, but...

OK, I'm bad for asking this...

Could the church just produce, from an outside firm, an income statement and whatever else is necessary, to give all of us an idea how they use the money they receive from us? Could we see it?

OK, start throwing stones at me...

Just a Dad

wow... I bet those people are glad that someone cares. It is good to see something positive happening.

Hmmmm

OK bad, I won't throw rocks, but we can't tell if you are complaining. If your complaining, don't give them any more money.

What about---

What about those who are disabled here in the US. We have a church member in our building who was recently hit by a car and his wheelchair was distroyed. True it was the brother's fault for not being in a marked crossing but now he and his wife have to take turns using hers.

However, it could be because he has a problem with the WoW - he's a smoker.

Brian

Something I've learned about working in a team environment:

If we do it my way, it will probably work.
If we do it your way, it will also work.

If we try to do it both ways, it won't work.

This isn't an argument against compromise, but rather illustrating the need for a leader or someone in charge. If a million people across the world think that the money can be spent "in a better way," but all in different ways, people just end up angry.

"Ok...I'm" I think your question is sincere and relevant. These thoughts are my opinion, and any feedback is welcome.

Simply put, I'm happy to hear that the LDS church continues with these charitable donations, especially when it involves money that I've donated.

Won't you be my neighbor?

Why can't we look at this at face value. The church donates wheel chairs to injured kids in Iraq and the knives come out??? I applaud the compassion and believe it will build positive relationships with our nieghbors. I don't need to see a balance sheet to know this was a good investment.

Fredd

Brian--He's not asking for a vote, just an accounting

What About--If your church withholds help from members because they smoke they are not very charitable

I take....

off my hat to the LDS Church for doing something positive and caring in this world of negativism and uncaring...

Fruits

By their fruits ye shall know them. This is a "drop in the well" compared to the total philanthropic output of the Church. Anyone who cares how much the church has needs to remember that ALL of it, EVERY PENNY is given freely by righteous, sacrificing members and non-members who trust the Church implicitly. If you aren't tithing willingly and faithfully, you might as well not tithe. Besides, I sat and watch a General Authority next to me out dining with a local State official. When the check came, the GA had his dinner separated and paid himself. The State official offered to pay and the GA stated "We are forbidden of the Lord to take ANY gift, that we may not be seen to compromise our devotion." Proof enough?

Re: "Fruits"

"...any gift, that we may not be seen to compromise our devotion." What does that mean? How is one 'compromis[ing] [their] devotion' by accepting a gift?

ExMoDon

If Mormons did not overwhelmingly support the invasion of Iraq, a sovereign country which did nothing to us, had nothing to do with 9/11, and whose invasion was for the sole purpose of stealing oil, then perhaps there would not be tens of thousands of dead Iraqis, homeless and refugee status Iraqis numbering about 5 million, countless widows and orphans and injured who need those wheelchairs.

Re: OK

For those Church members who donate on a regular basis because of what we believe, it matters not where the money goes nor how it is used. I say if you want financial accountability donate to an organization that will render that.

EXMO is exactly right...

Mormons are the only reason Iraq was invaded. Without the warmongering Mormons the Iraq war never would have happened. Even though 85% of the country thought the Iraq war was a good idea in 2003, even though Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, along with the vast majority of democratic leaders authorized Bush to go to war, the mormons are still directly responsible.

But for the mormons, the Iraq war never would have happened.

Honestly EXMO, that was one of the dumbest comments I have ever read. You can blame alot on the mormons. Blame your inferiority complex, your crappy job, the fact that people don't like you etc...blame those things on the mormons. Even Prop 8 if you like. Seriously, there is alot you can blame on the mormons. The Iraq war is not one of them.

I pasted your post in a word document because I don't ever want to forget it. It was really pretty stupid.

And with a name like EXMO, you make your agenda pretty obvious. It might be hard to take you serious if you had something intelligent to say.

Re: ExMoDon

Wow, what a rediculous comment. Mormons had nothing to do with the invasion and are reaching out to help those who are affected. They did a good thing now you should give credit where credit is due. This story is not about the war but about an organization trying to help those in need. Wise up!

"How is one 'compromis[ing] [their] devotion' by accepting a gift?"

There's the true meaning of separation of church and state. Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's...just don't let him buy you lunch. "Caesar" always expects something in return. The church seeks to be independent.

One of the signs of the Great Apostasy was that the ancient church became entangled with worldly governments, committing "fornication with the kings of the earth" (see John chapter 17).

It's amazing to think that the good deed of giving children wheelchairs has to arouse such animosity. It ranks right up there with healing people on the sabbath...

Re: What about--- |

My question for "What about" is what have you done to help the brother in your church building with the WoW problem replace his wheel chair? Have you taken an extra job or started any fundraisers, or are you just wanting to criticize the Church which does lots of humanitarian work in the US and internationally?

Is it possible you don't know the entire circumstances as to why the Church hasn't assisted with this brother's wheelchair? Perhaps the Church had already bought this man a wheel chair two months ago before he wrecked it? Or, is it possible this man has enough money to purchase his own wheel chair but refuses to dip into his savings to buy a new wheelchair?

The point is...unless you are the Bishop over the brother in question, you really don't know everything "the Church" has or hasn't done to assist him. Perhaps you should consider removing the "beam" from your own eye before asking the Church to remove it's "mote."

Davis

More than 2Billion$$$ for a shopping mall. How much for 'charitable donations'?
Like the man praying on the corner publicity is its own reward here.

What my Father does with His money through His servants makes no difference to me. Either he has a Prophet or He doesn't. We either believe or we don't. I have a hard time believing any of these negative comments are truly coming from any of my brothers and. or sisters. I am a fifth generation Latter-day Saint, by way of the Willie Hand Cart Company. I have seen a lot of love and devotion in the church. Never, have I seen, heard, or felt the kind of anti Christian feelings among my brothers and sisters as is displayed on these and other like blogs. Who's really writing them? I love you all.
