Why is the legislature making it easier for people to indulge alcohol addiction?

uncannygunman

We need more mischief in this state.

John

Fraught with mischief? What exactly does he mean? This bill is long overdue.

Hey, Clem!

It's alot easier, and far less expensive, to buy a six pack than to brew one. Home brewing takes time, money, and dedication. I really have no proof, but I'd bet that the rate of alcoholism in home brewers is lower than that of the general population of drinkers.

Regarding the esteemed Senater's comment, I think the government is "fraught with mischief."

John Barleycorn

"I'm not comfortable with home brewing," Bell said. "It seems fraught with mischief to me. Maybe I don't understand it."

Yeah, I'd be willing to bet you don't understand it.

Who said anything about alcohol addiction? Home brewing is a hobby. It doesn't make you an addict. Drinking beer doesn't make you an addict, either.

Oh sweet! I am no longer breaking the law, at least as far as brewing at home goes...

Now I can legally make my own designer vinegars.

People are always afraid of things they know nothing about. Our legislature proves this every session.

Why do these bumpkins keep getting reelected?

Matt

It takes at least a month for most home brew beer to taste any good and Ive worked in homebrew stores and been a commercial brewer and can tell you that their are not many chronic alcoholics in the homebrew or brewing industries they just wouldnt last , but there are many binge drinking brewers ;P.

Sure people can make bad homebrew but theres no pathogens in beer because the PH is too high and the alcohol is very effective at killing pathogenic bacteria. Home Canning is more dangerous than homebrewing because of the risk of botulism also many people associate home brewing beer with illict Moonshining which is currently illegal at the federal level let alone at the state level mainly because of the potential loss of excise revenue and the fire risks of 200 proof alcohol.

I moved here in the 70's and remember friends buying everclear (?) at the state liquor store and making their own home-brewed kaluha. Ah, the good old days.

Congrats to my Utah Brewing Brothers!

For the politicians, shame on your for waiting 30 years to recognize something the federal government legalized in 1978! A massive disservice to your constituents and the citizens of the State of Utah.
