This whole thing did nothing but waste everyone's time! Let it go!
Buttars is a hero to some, and McCoy to others.
Each has a stand and it should be respected. Throwing Buttars out does not really help the gay cause in my opinion. I don't think it changed any minds in the legislature either way. It was an unfortunate expression of private opinion and got taken to a public venue. Buttars expression may have been helpful in an accidental way. Many on both sides of the argument have had ample chance to express their opinions. I think that is good therapy. It probably helps each side better understand the other. I think the important thing is to treat others like you would like to be treated if the situation were reversed. Utah is a beautiful place with many good people. Can we agree to keep it that way?
Until butters goes away "the issue" won't go away. Butters IS the issue! As a republican, I believe we should find someone better to articulate and represent our values. The republican party should recruit a better candidate from his district to defeat him the next time he is up for reelection.
they all meet behind closed doors anyways and everything is choreographed!!
Let all the gays move to SF in California the Bay area, they have a home where they can roam and pickup each other. They can just about do anything they want. Sorry but they still can't get married there anymore.
Ok, so what is the big deal if there are gay people? Just because they aren't straight like you means they are dangerous? I mean, they can't have kids, but is this the only reason?. I'm pretty sure they don't care if they have biological kids or not. They adopt if they even want kids. I thought that America was a country of freedom. I know for a fact that immigrants wanted to come to America for a better life. They thought that they would get that. But now this man is saying no to gays and taking their rights away? No, what would his ancestors, who valued freedom, say when they found out that Butters is helping take away our freedom. The freedom from the gays, and all the other people who come to America for freedom. If it were me, I would never want to come here to America. This is the most unfair thing I have seen in all my life. It might not affect us as individuals, or it might. But it is hurting us as a nation to take one's freedom away while keeping your own.
PLEASE find someone that will focus on issues like education, taxes, healthcare, SOMEONE other than Mr Buttars to represent you- Mr Buttars constant attacks on homosexuals serves no purpose than to divide and shine a negative light on the WHOLE REPUBLICAN party and the state of Utah.
Mr Buttars please tell what other issues you work so hard at for your constituents?
Did Mr. Buttars trade in his right to speak his mind just because he is an elected official? If you don't like him, defeat him at the ballot box. Some of us think he was right and if we are not allowed to say so or donate money to pass Prop. 8, then what good is the Constitution? We all will fall victim to
"political correctness" or the "thought police." If that happens, then those who don't like Mr. Buttars win through intimidation. A very scary thing to see happen here in the United States of America.
Buttars did not trade in his right to speak his mind, but if he's anywhere other than in his living room (and certainly when talking to the media) he has the responsibility to NOT insult and denigrate the gay community OR anyone. He should remember that he represents ALL of his constituents (including the gays and lesbians). As an elected official, he has a greater responsibility to express his opinion without being mean-spirited and hateful. What if he had said the same exact thing about another minority? Would that have been ok? I'm sorry to say that Waddoups is a weak leader who is not concerned with protecting and standing up for the people who really need it.
When I read a story like this, I am sorry to say that it makes me so relieved that I don't live in Utah. If you can't look to someone like the Senate President to stand up for you, then that's pretty sad.
Buttars was right on this one. Waddoups was spineless and appeared pandering.
Does not stand up in Court
The Judges do not know the rights the ammendments give the people
The cops are ignorant of civil rights as well
That's right, Bill, no other states have their crazies in office either. Only Utah is the weird place. It's a good thing we have states like California and Illinios to show us how government should work.
Chris Buttars is one of the few political figures who is willing to stand up fo what is right instead of sneeaking around behind closed doors. If it is wrong it is wrong. I am gateful he is not afraid to say what he thinks. whether reveaks his true feeling about Gays or a bad bill. To bad our governor doesn't have the same guts. He is a pacifist and wants to please the crowds. Get some back bone Governor Huntsman.
it's about time we recognize the righteous endeavors of Sen. Buttars. he is standing up for truth and righteousness in this day of sin and eventual regrets for not keeping all the commandments of God including avoiding immoral behaviors. Sen. Buttars has my vote!
Look at Huntsman's approval rating vs. Buttars.
It doesn't apply to politicians or the DN
@ Friend of Angels:
The reason our governor wants to please the crowds (Voters), is because they are the ones that voted him in. I am guessing that he has more backbone than you can imagine. He is LDS and Republican is he not? He is the first Republican governor that I have trusted for a long time.
"Get some back bone Governor Huntsman."
You think that it didn't take backbone to stand up for what he honestly believes, even though a mojority of Utahns don't agree? I think that took more backbone than sitting in you senate office and degrading a segment of Americans that you think are not as worthy as you are.
Think about it.
As a member in good standing of the International Homosexual Conspiracy, I'm happy to sign checks for Senator Buttars because he's so backwards and frothing-at-the-mouth hateful that he'll make a convenient brush to tar all Mormons who oppose same sex marriage. If you live in California, in the next gay marriage referendum you'll endless video clips of the vile, creepy Senator Buttars frothing at the mouth about gays followed by a voice over that says that Buttars and his co-religionists would rather see gays die than have the right to let their partners make medical decisions.
