There are animal shelters that will take any animal and find it a new home... don't shoot it! Pretty sure that will be under that new felony law for animal abuse.
There are cities that will give a tax break for donating a horse to their police force too by the way.
Punish this sadistic cretin to the fullest extent of the law!
you are the reason things like this will increase. You wanted to shut down all of the slaughter houses in the US and deprive people around the world of horse meat and now you wonder what will happen to the 250,000 crippled and aged animals that this country has to rid itself of every year. You feel it it better to have a vet kill the horse and burn it rather than letting the public cook it. Personally I would rather sell the horse for the six or seven hundred dollars you used to get than pay the money to a vet to discard it. You people say there are alot of homes for these animals. Ask the BLM how their last wild horse give away program did.
Idiot!!! I can't beleive someone would actually do that. I hope they find him and put him in jail
This is a classic example of the new animal abuse law, and this man should be hunted down just as much as a human killer would be.
I'm sure the man had his reasons. I had to put a dog down before and the animal shelter wanted close to $100 to do the job. sometimes a man has to do a mans job and spend the $12 for a box of shot gun shells and another $15 for a shovel.. I'm sure a horse is a bit more then $100 to have someone depose of...
Thats just BLACK HEARTED, LAZY AND STUPID.
I am sure that this animal could have been provided for by someone. This guy sounds like he would rather waste a bullet than the time to investigate more humane ways to solve a problem. And to loose a pair of dogs on this horse is just plain evil.

I don't agree with what this man did, and I don't agree with what the above poster said. To equate a horse's life with a human life is ridiculous. And I'd just about guarantee that good old soft-hearted "Animal Lover" is pro-abortion. Kill a baby? Of course! Kill a horse? You animal!
Go back to where you came from animal nazis. I'll bet there is not one of you who call for this man's punishment that has ever owned a horse. And you are all ignorant of the currant economics of horse ownership. I have my own personal rescue where I have 8 unwanted horses and "there is no room at the inn" as they say. As much as I love mine, and as lucky as I am to take care of the unwanted ones, I would put a bullet in mine before I'd let my family starve. I hope this guy escapes this modern day witch hunt. Is it illegal to shoot a horse?
This crisis is COMPLETELY the responsibility of the PETA types. They caused it, they continue to exaserbate it, they OWN it. Bring back the horse-slaughter plants and this problem will dry up.
PETA types...have the common sense found in a bag of hammers. How long will the silent majority have to sit and let them wreck human life after human life with their witch hunts?
Bring back respect for human life!
It is illegal if you leave it on the side of the road. I do believe there had to be a better alternative than that. Thank you for rescuing the animals that you do Go Home.
Yes, dump it off someplace, allow your dogs to attack it, then shoot it--only not fatally--just enough so it can suffer more before finally dying. Lovely.
Wayne Pacelle, President of HSUS, when asked about how to handle horses at the end of their useful lives said that if you can afford to own a horse, you can afford a gun to put it down with. I guess this guy was just going by what the Humane Society of the United States says.
Both the American Veterinary Medical Associaton and the American Association of Equine Practitioners arrpove gunshot as a humane method of euthanasia. The technique requires a basic level of skill and an understanding of anatomy in order to place the shot in the correct location so that the result is immediate.
OK THis incidence has nothing to do with abortion or liberal ideas. If the man shot the horse for humane reasons Ok but he should have done it on his own property and dispose of the horse properly. Obviously he did not shot it correctly or it would not have staggered off it would have just dropped. THe unwanted horse issue is complicated and owner responsibilty needs to be addressed not the slaughter issue. MOst of us who are in the horse industry and know what we are talking about are not pro nor anti horse slaughter we are pro education and responsiblity. If you are not an experienced horseman or woman you should probably keep your opinions to yourself for they are not based on facts.
This is only the beginning if we do not bring back horse slaughter. People have to have a way to dispose of horses when they are crippled etc... or if someone cannot afford to properly care for a horse. As much as we would like to believe that there any number of ways to care for unwanted horses, reality dictates that there are not, and horse slaughter in a humane U.S. slaughter plant is the best answer. Right now the Governor is looking at a bill that would help to make the horse slaughter decision a state decision rather than a federal one. Please let the Gov. know that we need to pass this and bring horse slaughter back to Utah for the sake of the horses and horse owners. On another note, I would like to know one logical reason why humane horse slaughter should not be allowed.
most of us that in the horse industry and know what we are talking about are definatley PRO horse slaughter, it would go a long way to exterminate incidents like this.
The problem in this situation is not that the horse was "put down" - it's that the owner was completely heartless in the way he did it. How completely depraved is this guy that he couldn't spare an extra bullet to keep the horse from needless suffering? This situation left the realms of "responsible pet ownership" and became a case of animal cruelty when the guy left the horse to bleed to death. I agree - track him down and make him face the consequences.
This story made me cry. How very sad.
and the children for in this world they have no choice!
