Idol is on Wednesday and Thursday this week
Only someone who has never lost a close loved one would even think of criticizing this guy.
The first year after you lose a loved one can be brutal. Everything that happens is a "first," and reminds you of what you've lost. The first birthday, the first Christmas, the first Easter, the first Valentine's Day. Each occasion reminds you of what it was like WITH them, making it lonely WITHOUT them.
Now people want to take that away from him? They want him to act like he isn't feeling those things? They want him to ignore those feelings of loss, and more importantly, love?
I applaud the guy for how he's handling it.
Gokey is EXTREMELY talented -- one of the few talented people they let through.
This was the most talented group ever at the initial auditions. Then they started making cuts passed on personality, not on talent. The judges are HORRIBLE at picking the right people. There were only 3 talented people in that group of 12 last week, maybe 4, and Anoop didn't make it through.
How some of those people made it through to the final 48 is beyond me, when they let some genuinely talented people go.
Like the girl who sang her own song, "Nattie", at the audition. That girl was talented and cute.
Like the Osmond kid -- he was 10 times more talented than most of that group of 12 last week.
I would find no issue with Danny's backstory if his brother-in-law hadn't flashed a picture of his wife on television during Danny's results show performance of Hero, and Danny hadn't replied to questions about the women who now love him so irreverently with, "Well, is my wife watching?" And the fact that he is trying to get his charity logo approved so he can wear them on his glasses isn't helping his case, in my oppinion.
I can't imagine how he can explain all of that, especially the comment about whether or not his wife is watching him. To me, that's really disrespectful, and certainly not the definition of an American Idol.
Gokey's comments are pretty smart. He recognizes the facts of the competition... and ultimately there's only so much you can do about it.
The judges make this show, btw. They may infuriate you, but that's part of the point. They are looking to make good teevee, not to find the most talented vocalist.
Danny Gokey is an amazing singer and a good genuine person. For people who are upset or mad that he is "using" the death of his wife, you are all idiots. It is apart of who he is. It is not his fault American Idol put it all over the show, but if they don't put a back story on people, then we don't know them. Also, Fantasia, season three winner, used some sob story of the single black mother trying to make it in the world. Danny's story is a lot more real and sad than Fantasia! And Danny is extremely more talented. Some people must hate their lives so much that they have to start criticizing starts. I feel bad for whoever you are.
He is just a cool guy. I like him.
Very calculated things have happened that the author seems to have missed, which is why Gokey is frowned on more and more. First, he had his wedding ring off during the Hollywood rounds but it was back front and center for the voting rounds when he sang "Hero," with the intent on reminding people that he's had a tough time lately. And then there was the picture of his late wife that was flashed in front of the camera. Gokey COULD control many of the ways his wife's death has been exploited for votes and sympathy. He's no innocent victim here.
I think he is really sincere in what he is doing. I wish him the best of luck and I hope he goes far on American Idol, in fact, I hope he wins!!
I think he is a pretty good singer, but come on. He can't keep saying it's all the producers fault that his sad story is getting so much exposure. He brought it up himself in his preperformance package last week. And that was AFTER he already knew how much they played it up in the audition rounds and Hollywood. He is trying to back away from it now that it's served is purpose, and could in fact potentially harm him due to the backlash.
Nice guy, but they already let go of David Osmond who I think was the best singer. Go Normal Gentle!!!
I thought Gokey was a very good singer, something different, in audition and during hollywood week,
and I still think he is a very good singer, and a favorite to win it all,
but now I find myself somewhat losing interest in him, and thinking that he may not be all that, and disttacted by the fact that he looks so much like the actor in Iron Man.
He is by far the best singer on American Idol. How do you think he feels, that every time he gets up to sing someone has to mention his story. I think everyone needs to look to the future at what his new story is going to be when he wins American Idol. Yeah there will be people say that he only one it because of his story, but I don't think so. I really think he is the best singer in the competition and the most popular at this moment.
Not only is Danny Gokey a true talent, he's just a "regular" guy, and that makes him even more appealing. Him being genuine and true to himself will carry him through the competition.
