If the GOP really wanted to "fix" it's problems... it would get rid of Huntsman.
Huntsman should switch party's, because he's more libral than most Dem's. McCain lost the election because he was "moderate" and not a true conservative, and Huntman think's he can be President. That's a joke!!!
Increasing taxes will never help any economy, jonny boy.
The legislature's failure to plan for the future has put us in a complete economic mess. Rather than sitting around complaining, the legislature should work on a solution to the problem.
I think Governor Huntsman is just about the most unpopular person in Utah right now. LUCKILY! though he has tons of money to keep himself a float with his social friends. GOP friends???
Huntsman is exactly what the GOP needs. He's doing a great job as our governor. Being reasonable and progressive doesn't make him less Republican.
Back in the good old days of Roosevelt, FDR not Teddy, being a Progressive was one who bought into the socialist agenda. Progressive and Conservative really can't come together. I agree Huntsman seems to more of a Progressive. He ran as a Conservative, but he's hardly that and is becoming less so every day. The Republican governors in the South are not taking any bailout for a very good reason, after all the 'programs are in place' when the Fed. money runs out, the state will be left with maintaining them, meaning taxes will have to be raised. Once a dependence is established it's hard to get rid of, a typical Democratic philosophy of establishing a constituency.
Well, at least now I know where Huntsman stands politically: more government and bigger government. I'm glad there's not a chance that he will be elected Republican nominee for president. It's time to vote him out of his job as governor.
Take the money and run!
Whose money? Run Where?
Its like dropping a bucket into a dry well and bringing up sand.
Receiving handouts will bury our country in a terrible debt.
Im very disappointed with this so called Republican Governor. He is sure turning into a liberal socialist. Just like a wolf in sheeps clothing. Im disgusted that I voted for him.
Too say the least, Huntsman is perhaps one of the only GOP Governors that has any common sense.
I am becoming more of a Huntsman fan. I think he's trying to do a good job and hope he can also influence the Legislature.
Huntsman is exactly the reason why the GOP has faltered. It has left it's constitutional roots of limited government.
Progressive equals Marxism. Marxism has failed everywhere it has been tried. Look at our Sub Prime loans, they began as a Marxist concept enforced by our government, of giving a loan to anyone who applied. It made no difference if they could pay the loan back or not, arms were twisted and banks gave the loans. Fanny and Freddie, a Marxist concept, did their part and purchased the bad loans. Prices inflated, greed jumped in. Bingo, it created an economy that could be manipulated at the highest levels of greed and power. Obama is simply injecting Marxism into all the places Freddie and Fannie left off. It is going to bring nothing but government abuse and social ruin. Just like is has everywhere else.
Fix the country not your wallet!
Looks like Romney is demonstrating that the some, perhaps most, Republicans can be bought. Romney is stimulating, briding, whatever the appropriate name is his own Party members. His actions make public what probably is happening behind closed doors.
All these folks complaining about debt and bigger government probably voted for Bush twice.
At some point, the charade was bound to become apparent. And it has ... for that part of the country that is grown-up enough not to resort to willful ignorance just to avoid having to admit mistakes were made.
Speaking of Republican governors in the South, they were the beneficiaries of more government largesse during the past eight years than any other region.
Romney lost because he's Romney: a former governor of a liberal state who tried to run to the right of everybody and is still running. But now it's becoming painfully obvious that he's not particularly concerned about where he's running to, he just wants to run whichever race allows him to get out front.
Huntsman is currently demonstrating to Mitt and the rest of us what real leadership looks like.
I wish Huntsman would quit and work on his national aspirations. We cannot afford to have the federal government increase our taxes (which the bailout/stimulous package does). Huntsman has never had to live a normal life. Everything has been handed to him due to his wealthy parents. I just finished my taxes. I'm paying more in state tax than I used to. Our sales tax rate is among the highest in the nation. Huntsman is going to ruin our economy. Oh wait I'm wrong, at least we will always have the soccer stadium he funded. Too bad we can't do meals on wheels, dental/vision for medicaid but we can go to his soccer stadium.
Huntsman can't get any support from Utah with his "national posturing antics." How does he expect to get any support from anywhere else? I agree with 7:23 AM Anonymous--Huntsman's trying to become President is a joke. He's got about as much chance as Buttars.
What on earth are you talking about? I don't understand the point of your first paragraph. Many of those who oppose ineffective inefficient government spending did vote for Bush twice, but unfortunately they did not get financial responsibility. As a NeoCon Bush spent us into a tremendous deficit and violated the basic principles that are at the core of the Republican platform. Huntsman likewise never met a tax dollar he didn't want to spend on some fluff program. Republicans need to get back to their roots of fiscal responsibility. When this stimulus bill winds up lodged in a million dark corners of government bureaucracy that message will resonate with the American people...assuming the economy hasn't totally collapsed in the mean time.
Also, "Wrapper get done," Huntsman's popularity is unfortunately at 80% despite his recent stands on issues. Utahns need to step up and hold him accountable, something they are very bad at - they let the legislature get overrun with ultraconservatives and let the Governor's mansion get taken over by a pseudo-Republican whose only noteworthy accomplishment is being the son of a great philanthropist.
How come Mitt Romney is giving $1,000 to politicians who aren't trying to help us? They get $1,000 for not coming up with alternative solutions. They get a bonus for doing nothing. How does this help the crisis? Shameful if these people cash their checks. I'd like to know who accepts this "reward."
