I can be tolerant of just about anyone, with the exception of those who act like an ignorant buffoon. Chris Buttars needs to go.
Someone needs to be a voice for the majority. Thank you Mr. Buttars for having the courage to say it the way it is. Dems, its called freedom of speech.
This is unfortunate that the legislature its having to spend all this time on the actions of one of its members, rather than on the economic mess they put us in by failing to plan for the future.
To state that homosexuality is a threat to the nation is absolutely true, right along with other sins such as adultery, fornication, pedophilia, drug abuse and a host of other sinful practices. These are things that the Lord has forbidden. There are consequences when a nation turns to sin. Our nation cannot continue to prosper in wickedness.
Have we come to the point where belief in what the scriptures say is now banned?
I don't believe that Mr. Butters was being anything but truthful. He did not suggest that we be unkind to homosexuals, so why the big hubbub? I doubt that Mr. Butters is unkind to the homosexuals that he certainly comes into contact with.
The thing to notice here is that the wicked take the truth to be hard!
As I recall some history most empire and great civilizations rotted from within before being defeated from without. And homosexuality was one those things that rotted the people.
Every person has a right to free speech. I may not agree with Mr. Buttars but he has that right. I believe he was speakings as Chris Buttars not as a member of the GOP or the Utah State Senate. Just like the governor has the right to say he supports the Comman Ground Mr. Buttars has the same right to his opinion.
Democrats always think that they should choose the Republican leadership.
They didn't like Ed Meese and tried to get rid of him.
They didn't like Carl Rove and tried to get rid of him.
Democrats can choose their own leadership but they just can't get it through their thick skulls that the Republicans can do the same thing.
Robert is right.
Gays stand by the constitution as long as it is in their favor. Freedom of speech goes for everyone.
I support Buttars. He was unafraid to speak his mind. I believe it's called "free speech". Ever heard of it. Something we seem to have forgotten is part of the Constitution.
Robert, if you want to live in a theocracy, you can move to Iran. In the United States we are supposed to be free - so you can live with your religious beliefs and others can live with theirs.
The fact that we have to argue about whether everyone should have civil rights is embarrassing.
Those that refuse civil rights will be on the wrong side of history, as they always have been.
Senator buttars should be praised by the Legislature for being willing to voice the truth of how big a threat to our nation homosexuality is. If we want to be a devient people then God will sweep us off this land just as he has done in the past.
Buttars is clearly someone who just can't seem to keep himself from saying stupid things. It reminds me of Vice-president Joe Biden. But like Biden, Buttars was elected by a majority of voters. Next time, maybe someone will run against him successfuly. If the state legislature wants to spend its time fussing over this, so be it. Better to treat him like some senile uncle who gets attention by acting all crotchety, and make him irrelevant. Stripping him of any leadership positions in the legislature is a good start.
Buttars just said publicly what many believe privately. If this were just some common man with no ties to anything, this would not be an issue. We would just call the man ignorant. Sean Penn can use the Oscars to further his platforms but anyone against it is wrong. Where did our freedom of speech go to. Those in favor of gay rights, unions etc, can pose their beliefs all over us but we cannot fight against it? Too bad, welcome to the real world.
What do the dems want? Buttars to be executed? Dems need to worry more about their crisis in chief. ....yobama and what he is doing. Talk about an incompetent empty suit.
Because you don't agree with them doesn't mean that you belittle tme publicly or call them nasty names. You show them a greater measure of love in hopes that someday they may want to change. The entire thing should have been handled with more tact & love. What he did was not very Christian.
The democrats need to start focusing on solving issue and quit whining about things that are all done and covered. The people have elected Sen. Buttars and like it or not, he is in the Senate. It is not election season, so stop whining and get a grip on solving the problems facing Utah.
New Yorker: 'What do the Dems want? Buttars to be executed?' You're getting close NY. Maybe tar and feathered would be more appropriate.
Obama an incompetent empty suit? Rumor has it Webster's is going to put a picture of Dubya's head next to the word 'empty'.
Buttars is a buffoon, plain and simple. I find it ironic he's still chair of Health and Human Services committee - isn't that special. The man spews untold amounts of venom toward a particular group based on their sexual orientation at birth (no haters, sexuality is NOT a choice - get over it) and he's chair of human services? Good one...then again, Bush did swindle his way into the presidential office for 8 years and he's barely qualified to wash my car.
Oh enough already. You need to take care of your own thoughts and actions, because you might be next. Let the voters take care of their business and all the rest of the critics take care of yours. Those who protest too much usually have something in their own closet and it will come out when you least expect it.
You state that butters was not suggesting that we "be unkind to homosexuals." What do you suppose he was suggesting then? If something is "the greatest threat" to our country then we should fight with all of your might to eradicate that threat. What else could he be suggesting Robert?
Don't you see that this type of rhetoric is dangerous?
History will prove that you are on the wrong side of this issue. You are dangerous, and thankfully, will soon be a relic of bad thought.
Yes Butters is offensive and (in my opinion) inaccurate; but no more so than gay fundamentalists who spew uninformed venom on a daily basis. Both sides are guilty here (and need to grow up).
