To those who wish to socialize medicine, you can bid farewell to these kinds of breakthroughs. I am not suggesting that there are not things that need repair in the present system. But going to the extreme of government intervention to ensure that everyone is insured is not the solution.

And I'm speaking as one of the uninsured.

This was done by government (NIH,CDC) funded academic research, not corporate. This IS socialized medicine.
Your comment is absurd.

irony | 11:14 a.m. He know not what he does.

He's one of many followers of Messiah Limbaugh. Religion only requires faith and does not require supported facts. Science would tell us that angelic morphology having wings makes no sense in terms of form following function. Wings are an adaptation to fly through air. Angels miraculously appear. They are flightless compared to birds or bats. Why would you use gold as a material to construct wings? It's soft and way to heavy.

Neoconservatism is a religion with tenants and mantras. Too question their tenants is to be called an apostate or RINO.

You're right, our government funds much health research, which latter makes billion for drug companies because there is no repayment clause.

Did the 272 million to build Glen Canyon that created Bechtel Engineering, Page, AZ, power and Lake Powell create any wealth? The manta is the government can't create wealth.

Actually, my dear liberal friends, I have never listened to Reverend Rush . . . ever.

The fact is that everyone is envious of the healthcare industry because it is one of few US industries that can still turn a profit. And heaven forbid that someone should actually benefit from their hard labor.

Here's my real objection to socialized medicine: I spend a lot of time staying healthy, being active, eating right, avoiding substances not condusive to cognitive and physical health. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Americans do not. And an ever increasing number of the rising generation are even worse than their parents. As one of the last individuals that isn't on disability, I don't want to pay for their illness. When has the US government ever been more efficient than private corporations?

Furthermore, I am not prepared to have the governement regulate what I eat, drink, inhale, or in any other way take into my body, when I can sleep (because sleep hygiene is critical to good health), how much I exercise, etc. You are welcome to think that kind of intervention won't happen, but the precedent dictates otherwise.

As one who has worked in the Federal and Public Health heath care world for about 40 years I can say that there is a place for both Federal Health Care and Private Health Care. They can compliment each other and they are not mutually exclusive.

I am against "Socialized Medicine" because the it just gets bogged down in actual practice therefore not serving the general population well. On the other hand, there are areas in research and Public Health that just don't have enough return on the dollar for private sector health care to take on. We must keep a good balance of both if we are going to deliver good health care to all Americans.
