Yes, Sen. Buttars should resign. I'm amazed that the LDS Church allows Buttars (a member in good standing) to keep flushing their expensive PR efforts down the toilet. Every time he opens his mouth, those "Family, isn't it about time?" PR ads get flushed.

free thinker

Only in the regressive mind set of Utah do you have a politician who is this bigotted and idiodic. Shameful and even more so he was electec by the minions here 3 times.

The true Messiah

"This generation is as corrupt as the generaton... that crucified Christ; and if He were here today, and shuld reach the same doctrine He did thenj, they would put Him to death."

Buttars is no Christ but Jesus was not afraid to speak the truth and was too harsh for the people who he chstised and warned.

for free speech

whether you agree with his comments or not, he has the right to say them. he was duly elected in his district by the people. maybe the electorate in his district agree with him? he should not resign because he stated a belief and one that the people who elected him obviously share. they are entitled to be represented even if others disagree with their views.

Political Correctness

Does the Human Rights Campaign want every insensitive remark by every loose cannon "condemned" by the speaker. What is your threshold for condemnation, just remarks about homosexuality? The speaker has enough to do so let the voters in Buttars district carry that burden. We may not agree, but that's democracy.

Free Speech!

Senator Buttars is entitled to his opinions, and he has the right to express them.

Or, is that something that can only be done if you are gay, lesbian, or whatever?

If anything, the hate speech is coming from those who are out to demonize Buttars.

Holy Cow!

Resign? Strip him of one of his committe chairs? This is what happens when we use our freedom of speech? Fantastic! Here we go socialism. What a joke. All of the other leaders need to take his example and instead of pandering to people speak what they feel. Agree or disagree with his comments, these knee-jerk reactions scoff at our right to freedom of speech.

UTAH Greatest Hate on Earth

To Waddoups

You are a weak and powerless individual. You had the opportunity to rid us of this bigoted menace, and you did not.

Free speech is one thingcontinued tirades against groups not of your own religious beliefs, and offensive to almost all who hear it, is another.

The Utah Senate is an embarrassment to ALL Americans, and YOU Sir, are the leader.

What a sorry state of affairs you have condoned and perpetuated.

Sen. Buttars needs to take a class on how to be tactful. His comments were not appropriate and he should be forced to account for them. It is ok to disagree and should be, free speach is a God given right, but respect for the individuals involved should always be maintained.

That said, the Gay Rights folks need to really re-evaluate where they stand. Historicaly it has been rather bad for a culture once homosexuality becomes an openly accepted norm and the culture has had to change to accept it. Look at ancient Greece and Rome both if you want examples. I have no problem with people being gay, they have a right to their privacy and should not be discriminated against in at work or in general.

Marriage in its traditional sense is a contract between people of different genders and always has been. If Gay people want to enter into a civil union and call it marriage then go for it but to toss 4000 years of proper social tradition down the toilet to appease a vocal minority is just outright wrong.

Marriage needs to be protected but not by folks like Sen. Buttars.

Not Enough!

Waddoups was inept during the news conference. Removing Buttars from the judiciary committee was a beginning - but not enough!

Too little, too late!

Regarding Cris Buttars, what ever happened to:"I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".

Please...

Buttars just needs to go away. No man with this much hatred for his fellow man should serve in the legislature.

Free Speech is just fine as long as these guys say only what leadership deems OK. Let the guy speak. How else will you learn how stupid he is? Punishing him for his views is a gestapo/communist tactic.

Glad He Didn't Resign

Buttars is the Utah LDS Gift that keeps on giving.

Mr. Buttars is a clearly someone who likes to get attention through use of hyperbole, and he is surely no gentleman, but why should he be expected to resign? Doesn't he have the right to express his opinion, even if the opinion is almost laughably myopic? The man was elected by a majority of his constituents, and ultimately, if he reflects their views are they not entitled to his continued representation?

And since I also enjoy the same liberty to speak my mind as Mr. Buttars, I'd like to say that if you're a person who believes that homosexuality is as dangerous to your family and home as suicide bombers and airplane hijackers, please stay down there in West Jordan.

Well...

slap on the wrist is better than nothing, I suppose. But I still think the slime ball should resign his seat then he can exercise his "free speech" all he wants!!

What a shame that the energy this sad, pathetic man puts into hatred can't be put to some good use.

go away gays

In order for the mormons to get their freedom, they had to congregate and find their own place that they could be the majority. I suggest the same to the gays. Leave, become the majority, and have it your way. Leave the rest of us alone. Until you can have the majority, you will never win. Thank goodness.
