Has anyone been able to access the list of finalists? The home page says they are available, but when I click on it, it brings up last year's finalists.

My hope is that the judging is not prejudicial in the interviews. I was in this contest a long time ago................. and the judges were very prejudicial.

Keep it fair please.

The 2009 results were available here online at approximately 12:30 am, but are no longer accessible. What is going on, Deseret News? PLEASE do not play games with these kids!!

I got the finalist list to come up -- it's on the home page and says 195 finalists. It brought up the 2009 list for me.

Where do we find the people who are going to state? It says on the main page that they are there, but won't pull up this year's.

It is so encouraging to see these fine young people pursuing academic excellence. It gives us all hope that the values that made this Country great have not been forgotten.

I can still get 2009 results to come up just fine. Want me to check for anyone? What category is Kayla Killough in? I'm not seeing her name but i will double check if I know the category/region.

I still cant get the 2009 list to come up either. Just wondering about the Alta kids. They have such a wonderful group of kids that are so tight knit and caring for one another. Who from Alta made it?
SS mom | 8:59 a.m. Feb. 19, 2009
From Alta: Gabrielle Jensen (Soc Science), Jordann Farnsworth (Trade/Tech Ed), Kaitlyn Whittenburg (Business), Samantha Paskin (Dance).

I don't know why my last comment isn't posting, so I am trying again.
Alta winners were in Soc Science, Trade/Tech, Business and Dance.

I was a Sterling Scholar alternate some years ago. It doesn't mean a darn thing. I didn't put it on my resume, and I still got a full scholarship.

At my high school sterling scholar awards usually went to track/sports stars who also took hard classes. Shouldn't be any surprise that they never did very well at competitions!

Dear anonymousSterling Scholar is probably different depending on where you went to school. At the school level, I believe the familiarity that teachers have with a student usually results in a predetermined outcome. I was a Sterling Scholar, 3 of my friends were alternates. My friends didnt think it meant all that much, but the real work begins after the school level when you prepare for the District and State. Just the exercise of preparing My Sterling Scholar book was far more difficult than an Eagle Scout project I have been a part of. The effort involved, the education of the experience, and the doors it opens are well worth it. Several colleges went out of their way to attract me only after I was awarded the Sterling Scholar. These young men and young men should be congratulated for their efforts in achieving a real accomplishment.
Bingham!! | 2:35 p.m. Feb. 19, 2009
The only thing that really frustrates me about the sterling scholar program is that it involves so much work, but there isn't that big of a payoff. The winners get some money, but for the most part the scholarships the schools offer in association with the program are not as good as the scholarships the winners would qualify for anyway. I think it would be cool if they offered more scholarship money to the winners in addition to their other scholarships, but that is just me. Anyway, nice job Bingham brothers and sister. Christopher, Daniel, Quincy, and Kendra! You are awesome!
Waste of Time | 3:04 p.m. Feb. 19, 2009
I could have been a Sterling Scholar, but my school dropped the ball in letting prospective students know what they need to do.

I was also a sterling scholar several years ago and placed in the top 10 for the state of Utah in my category. I know the work that is involved. I'm grateful for the experience and congratulate those who have made it this far! Although a great experience, there are definitely politics involved. I would hope that the judges are not bias in their final decisions.

Erika Nash, young lady, congrats on fulfilling the plan!
Ummm.... | 5:51 p.m. Feb. 19, 2009
...why are the posts from self-proclaimed "former Sterling Scholars" rife with grammatical errors and misspellings? I'm afraid my respect for the award has taken a bit of a blow in the last few minutes.
Very Funny | 7:00 p.m. Feb. 19, 2009
I do believe we have a cynic in our midst. Oh yes, just because people misspelled words on a blog, that means they are obviously stupid. And the award that they have recieved must be stupid too. Infact, everyone on this page must be guilty by association. Please, lets keep our comments free from childish prating.
