Hatch has lost his resolve and is part of the problem. I like how the Democratic Senator complimented him in his Statesmanship. In other words, "Thanks for riding the fence so as to not offend any Democrats ". At least Chaffetz has been fighting this from the get-go.
I prefer Chaffetz's style over Hatch's. I am tired Republicans who are just interested in making friends on Capitol and not fighting for principles.
Did Senator Hatch not comment on his voting on the original "stimulus" package as the article suggests, or did the author fail to include it? I assume it's like the response I got from Matheson the other day. I emailed him and specifically indicated that I didn't want him, as my representative, to vote for the "new" stimulus package. In his canned response, he adamantly spoke out against the original baillout, but not once mentioned that he intended to vote in favor of the second. Until we can figure out how to get rid of ALL our elected crooks and get honest people in Washington, we will have nothing but hypocrasy and deceit. Any ideas on how we, the poeple, can actually do that? I'll be reading...
"'Not one member of the United States congress read (it)' the largest spending proposal in the country's history."
Chaffetz is right. Do people realize how lengthy the proposed plan was. It would not have been possible for any one person to have read it in full, in the time they gave themselves to review its contents. Different persons, with different haphazard spending loaded that document with different agendas of their own, nearly doubling Obama's initial amount he thought necessary.
Thanks for the bill.
Signed,
Your children
If Chaffetz and Hatch are so against the stimulus bill then do the RIGHT LIMBAUGH thing. REFUSE any stimulus money heading Utah's way.
Chaffetz needs to grow up. He almost makes Chris Cannon look good!
God Bless us one and all(not just the Mormans But we the the people)from the morons that serve who Themselves?
Chaffetz the "Rookie" with the "Big Hole" and Hatch the Bush administration "Sellout", what a pair. How do they like the situation that we are in at the present caused by their "Republican party? Only Repubs from Utah would have the guts to make statements like they do, after what their party left us. Both of you are replaceable in the next election, and if you keep running your mouths you will be looking for a lobbyist job like your impeccable friend Curtis.
AMEN, Gazelem!!!!
Some of the money taken by federal government comes from Utah citizens and Utah businesses.
Should we not expect to get any of it back?
Do not our children and our infrastucture not need it?
Things aren't so simple are they?
Unfoytuantely, anytime we do get our money back from the federal govenment it is always with strings attached.
A year from now when the "stimulus" still hasn't worked, those who voted in favor of it WILL have a price to pay, just like many of the members of Congress didn't get to return after they gave the money to the bankers, I suspect Matheson will be especially vulnerable coming from a Repub. state. BTW, the "stimulus" won't work because its based too much on "faith in the Obama administration" rather than good economics. I wonder when govt. will quit tinkering with economics? At some point people have got to realize that the govt. can't do everything for all people, but it'll be a painful realization!
If Chaffetz doesn't want any money, then he should make sure neither himself, nor any of his constituents who voted for him, reap any benefits from it. Let the rest of the citizens, who are much more intelligent and better educated than Chaffetz, benefit from the recovery act. He can go live in Hildale; there's a place for wing nuts who hate America, and it's even in his own state! Or, he could move to Mexico. Thank goodness the US has a smart president who can get us out of the mess a dumb one got us into. At least all Americans will benefit from this government intervention, unlike the Iraq war and deregulations that only benefitted the wealthiest.
Quote: "Chaffetz called the nearly trillion dollar spending and tax cut plan "legislative malpractice" and told lawmakers that "not one member of the United States congress read" the largest spending proposal in the country's history."
Chaffetz, just because you didn't read it, doesnt' mean no one did, and if you didn't read it, how could you proudly vote "no" on it? And how can you now criticize it.
and once again...not one Republican offers a workable solution to the financial crisis and market distrust they've created. Just more pouting, posturing, and inflammatory rhetoric. That may work for talk radio blathering but here in the real world problems need tangible solutions and an actual plan.
Something is horribly wrong when the Republican strategy to save face, is to bet against the home team and pray that it loses. Whatever happened to "Country First?" Apparently that slogan didn't last very long.
There was a GOP plan. The democrats had enough votes, they only needed 3 GOP senators to pass what ever they wanted. Obama has days to review this, but with his deadline, no member of congress had enough time to read it all. This is Change?
Good job Rep. Chaffetz. This time we don't need a cheerleader for Obama. We need a balance. We just don't have enough GOP back there. In 2 years, if Obama isn't right, we will have.
Didn't Hatch vote for the first spending bill which was just as socialistic and poorly thought out as the second? Whether the bill was signed by a Democratic or Republican president, it was still passed by a Democratic senate. The Republicans *do* have a plan for economic recovery: let the free market system take care of itself. It will be painful, but in the end we won't have sold our soul to the federal government.
Hatch did not vote for the first bill, it was Bennett who did.
The GOP has offered some modest proposals but they are still shell shocked. They spent the past 8 years rubber stamping every big government bill old Georgie Boy Bush put before them that when it came time to stand strong, they forgot how.
This is truly a case of the GOP and the Dems simply arguing the speed the train hits the wall at.
To the supporters of the stimulus package, even Robert Reich, the Commerce Sect under Clinton stated tht this was just massive welfare spending. Remember that Reich helped write the Welfare Reform Act.
The only good news of this bill is that a majority of funding takes place after 2010. This means that there is an outside chance that the GOP could take back the US House and stop the rest of the spending. It could be done but considering they chose Baehner as their leader, again, there is little chance they will get back to their roots.
Asking Baehner to balance a budget is like asking an elephant to balance on the head of a pin. Not going to happen.
Socialism ahoy!
It is not much of a badge of honor for Hatch to be complimented and praised by the highly partisan Democrats and the in-the-tank media. I prefer Representative Chaffetz' principled and passionate approach.
Representative Chaffetz is willing to say it how it is. A year ago he was bemoaning the fact that the Republicans, when they had control of the government, had let us down. So why shouldn't he also be critical of the Democrats when they fail to show any fiscal self-control?
We need to limit the years anyone can be elected to the Sen, or House. It's a matter of FACT that the GOP and the DEM do not see the same glass. The Dem. have the ball and the Rep. are going home. You could have the same game going on and have the GOP have the ball and the DEM. would go home. They can not play together, the same people have been in congress playing the same game for 20,30,40 years. We need a government for the people BY THE PEOPLE. NOT THE SAME PEOPLE, this is why we have grid lock.
We have finally figured out how to get rid of dead wood like Cannon. Hatch and Huntsman are next on the chopping block with their liberal leanings.
I am proud of Jason and proud of the 3rd district for kicking the good old boy(s) out. After Obama and the dems finish ruinging the economy you will see a conservative flood like never before. Freedom loving Americans will no longer stand for the way things are.
Senator Hatch, I think there's very little evidence that the President is inclined to take a bipartisan approach to running the country. You'll be best served by playing the role of the loyal opposition.
