Couldn't the money have been put to better use somewhere else?

justin traver

Worthy article.

Everyone concerned should watch the sting-cop show "Predator Raw" on Dateline NBC.

Sobering. I have two young girls 9 and 12.

So, once again, the morality squad has gone out of its way to make sure minors are exposed to pornography -- or at least exaggerated mis-information about it.

God bless them, indeed. Just think what might have happened if they'd studied history, English or art instead.

deon

Pathetic.

Concerned

What are people thinking? Encouraging kids to ruminate about pornography -- even if it's to tell other kids to stay away from the stuff -- is just WRONG. Why not focus young people's attention on and channel their energies into POSITIVE avenues and completely away from the negative ones?

I'm sorry, but this is just a BAD idea.

You are foolish

if you don't think the kids are already exposed to this. It's something over 90% of all kids have been exposed inadvertently to porn over the internet, just from doing their homework and other normal activities. And there's a reason why the latest fad is to send nude pictures of themselves via their cell phones.

At least this way they got educated about the dangers of porn, and learned why to avoid it. A lot of these kids are not going to get this info at home.

Concerned

Really? They're not going to get "this information" at home IN UTAH? Then perhaps the parents, not the kids, need to be educated.

I never considered porn kills, but apparently you can save lives by not viewing porn because the AD says so!

Aside from the silliness of an erred line of thinking, porn is a problem with teens. Cell phones have made it worse, giving them the greatest access and ability to create the stuff or view what is already out there. It is unhealthy, but why?

Europe and other countries are exposed to what we call porn daily. In Geneva porn was next to the Disney mags at the airport. How is it that we become dangerous and it doesn't happen to those who porn is an everyday experience?

uncannygunman

I didn't realize that there was a generalized battle against internet porn, but if there is, sign me and my kids up on the side of free speech!

dave

justin traver,

What does porn have to do with Predator Raw? Predator raw deals with pedophiles.

These people are the PETA of porn...

Chris

Millions of youth and adults in our nation are addicted to porn. This addiction is destroying marriages and, in some cases, escalating to the point that the addicts are committing heinous sexual crimes.

My daughter was raped by a man who was addicted to porn. Her life has been destroyed.

Most youth are exposed to Internet porn by the time they are 11. Many do not realize the addictive nature of porn. If they try to get out of a porn website, they are "mousetrapped" or led to other porn sites, often for 10-15 minutes. Because of the graphic and highly-addictive nature of porn, some youth become addicted after one exposure.

Thanks to Mark Shurtliff, Citizens for Decency, and other people and organizations who are speaking out against pornography and educating youth and families about the dangers of pornography. Parents need to be educated, but kids do also.

slippery slope

You all sit back and cry about how bad porn is, but you never seem care about how overly sexual our society has become! Did you ever think that sexy pictures of hot chicks in bikinis and underwear that you see on your TV every night could be the starting point? Duh!

Re: Dave

Look up on the internet Ted Bundy. When they interviewed him, he told them he had a very good childhood and no bad experiences. He told them that it all started with Porn. It is a highly addictive and a dangerous game to be involved in. If you interviewed many pedophiles and rapist. I bet all of them are involved with porn.

Fuss

The more fuss you make about a hidden vice the more curiousity you create!

I am sure if you interviewed many pastors, teachers, police and leaders in the community you would find that many are involved in porn too. Porn does not cause violence anymore than a gun.

We don't go out there giving guns to kids. We should not be giving kids porn either (or the ability to make it of themselves). That is why I support the AG on this issue. It is also why I would never give a child a cell phone with a camera.

Society has become so sexual because good people haven't stood up in the past to prevent it. We as a society have allowed the erosion of morals in the media and society in general. We use the excuse of freedom of speech, free agency, etc. to allow such and thus we are now in the position where us who want decency have had our freedom/agency taken away by being subject to indecency all around us. If we don't stand for decency and right and speak out for it then our silence is accepting evil.

Education is key...not ignorance

Regarding Fuss's comment...I completely disagree. First of all, think of the impact this contest had on the students who participated. At least you've got a fighting chance of these kids not falling prey. With so little money being spent on the rewards, I consider the price well worthwhile if it only saves a handful from this TRAP. Firearms are another good example of the power of education. Keep them mysterious, then they are dangerous. Educate then you decimate the ignorant curiosity.
