She doesn't need to go on welfare. She has already been receiving CA state diability payouts from two claims over the past decade.

What a wonderful home those children will grow up in - 4 bedrooms for 14 children and at least 1 adult (if her parents make good on their statement of leaving), not to mention the hired help she'll need.

This lady had no business even wanting ONE more child. I'm not a hard-hearted Republican, but c'mon, enough is enough. I'm tired of my tax dollars supporting people for the rest of their lives.

From an outsiders perspective it sounds like she needs a bit of a mental health assessment. How can she love these children as much as she says she does and expect to be able to raise them in a healthy environment with NO JOB? Why do we have to foot her bill? She sounds like a 12 year old who wants to play with all her little dolls.

Is there is a way to support this dysfunctional family without condoning the mother's irresponsible behavior? Perhaps donations could be made directly to the grandmother...

This lady's head is not on straight. However, there are six innocent children at home and eight more in the hospital who had not choice in all this and deserve to be fed, sheltered, and loved to adulthood. The father should help since he agreed to the use of his sperm. I question her ability to make good decisions so any help should go through a third party who would be responsible to those contributing so they would not have their hard-earned money spent on frivolous activities or goods.

I am thinking of all the couples out there who would love to have even one baby at all. Supply and demand doesn't always keep up, does it?
Note: It looks as tho' injections are a part of this young woman's life, from her lips on down.

It is sad that so many people are displeased by the accomplishment of this lady who has done something that no other person in this world has done. Hers is a greater feat than climbing the highest mountain or running the fastest mile. Yet she is being treated as if she were an athlete on steroids and condemned for her success.

The penny pinching conservatives who are worried over her taking some of their money are wasting their time. There are probably people in America that will hold her in their hearts and love all those kids.
RE:BOB... | 9:38 a.m. Feb. 10, 2009
Then you let the rest of us off the hook on paying out our taxes for welfare. Some of us are barely keeping our heads above water. Yes, she did have octuplets. But, how much of that hospital bill is SHE going to have to pay, while I am still paying off medical bills from 2007 when my hubby was in a diabetic crisis. No one is helping me out...Why can you not understand that many of us have been penny-pinched into near bandruptcy.
Lionheart | 10:04 a.m. Feb. 10, 2009
@Ultra Bob: You have clearly slipped a gear. Having a litter isn't a big accomplishment, the animals do it all the time. Kindly cover my part of the expenses for this woman. I didn't have a say in her little escapade.

Ultra Bob; What "Ginness Record" are you working on this year? How many Flying Saucers have you visited? You obviously can't see the forest for the trees. And you certainly don't have the kids welfare in mind.

I just hope that all the children will eventually have the opportunity to grow up in good, loving, caring and closer to normal families and homes.

She's not being criticised for her "success", she's being criticised for her "excess".

And don't make the false assumption that it's only "Penny pinching Conservatives" that have a problem with this situation.

all a woman has to be is pregnant, single, and knows the ropes and she can get prenatal care plus one year for $412 a year, go to the doctor of her choice, and make a minimal co-payment during the pregnancy. And she can get help indefinitely for formula, etc., through WIC. I, as a taxpayer resent having to care for this woman and her 14 kids with my tax dollars--especially when the state is broke. I agree with Barbara that she is fond of injections--talk about fake lips! And in the little bit of interview I could tolerate listening to, she sounds like a 13-year-old who has no clue of life. I pity the grandmother having to deal with the children and her adult child who seems to be way too fertile!
A mental health assesment | 11:57 a.m. Feb. 10, 2009
is needed. Followed by a court ordered sterilization. She doesn't mentally capable of raising the children either. Child services should be looking to adopt them out.

When society no longer allows the failure of the individual, then we are no longer free.

Freedom from consequence is life without freedom.

In a free society we get to make stupid decisions, until we are no longer free.

Just because your allowed to be stupid, doesn't mean you should.

Reminds me of the "cat lady" who lived in my neighborhood when I was growing up. She loved cats, and filled her house to the point that she was blinded to the squalor and deplorable conditions she was subjecting them to. They were living in filth, full of worms, malnourished and diseased on top of that.

Unfortunately, once the reality of 14 kids - 8 of them infants and 3 of the older kids having special needs - sets in, she may find herself unable to care for that many herself, but unable to realize that maybe it's in their best interests to be raised elsewhere. At least they're now on CFSD's radar. Hope they check in regularly.

This lady is disturbing, that is true.

However, why is nobody mentioning the unethical actions of the doctor? Sure it may have been legal, but it's disgusting that any medical "professional" - and I use that term loosely - would artificially impregnate a woman with no job, not support outside of her parents, and obvious mental issues.

Much of the outrage expressed at this "mother" - and she obviously is only one in the biological sense - should be shared with the doctor who performed it.

What is most frustrating about people such as this woman is that it is impossible for people to refuse to help due to not wishing to punish the children.
Ultra Bob | 7:42 a.m. Feb. 11, 2009
All those penny pinching Conservatives and Liberals need to be reminded that their tax dollars pay for part of all religious and government welfare programs, plus the construction and operation of every temple, synagogue, and church in the United States. The reason is that all religions are tax exempt and the taxes they dont pay are paid by the general public thus subsidizing their activities.

I doubt if anyone would support every one of those programs but you have to pay for them in any case.

No one has the right to judge this lady or her children. They may be a drag on the society or they may be star performers who will lead the world of the future.
Paul | 7:46 a.m. Feb. 11, 2009
There are no apparent rules on the doctors. Well, I would hope one "rule" that comes out of this is to hit that doctor with a lawsuit to support the upbringing of those 8 (or maybe even 14) children. He obviously didn't consider the ethics of it. Maybe he will consider the cost of it.
Re "Ultra Bob | 7:42 a.m." | 9:48 a.m. Feb. 11, 2009
You really have a twisted way of looking at things (especially taxes).

We/the government are currently funding all religious charity work? The construction and operation of every religious building??? Because we aren't collecting taxes from them?

You really think you are paying for the construction of ANY church? You'd have to really bend over backwards and spin it just right to make that case.

Do you want ALL charities to be taxed? Or just religious charitable contributions? And how do you think that would help the poor or the community in general?
@Ultra Bob | 11:27 a.m. Feb. 11, 2009
Ultra Bob- I think the American public has the right to judge individuals who ask us to support them and their families. We have a right to place limits on who is eligible for and how long they should be eligible for welfare benefits.
I agree that we should make sure the children are taken care of, but if she is unable to do it, then the state should probably step in and find homes that can. People chronically abuse the system knowing that society wants to take care of children. They know we won't let their kids go hungry, homeless, or without healthcare, so they don't feel the need to provide these things.

It is time we start telling parents that they only have a limited time to receive benefits for themselves and their children, and if they don't work to be self sufficient, then we find new homes for the kids. If we are going to pay for the children anyways, we might as well do it the right way and dump the parents off the rolls in the process.
When they get cut off, maybe they will actually work harder, or prioritize better.

Her doctors must get some blame for this fiasco. Reproductive therapy was developed to help the childless ... er ... ah ... and to make money for the doctors. It was not intended to be used as a means of enabling a fat, fecund female to bear a litter the same size as a rat.

All you have to do is think. If churches and Religions paid their fair share of taxes, your taxes would be less.

Really? Maybe everyone should start reporting money given to them for a birthday present also.

It is funny how America spend so much time and money killing babies. We have so many people backing abortion rights, that if a woman wants to kid rid of a baby we are all for it. I look at this woman who wants to bring babies into this world and care for them and we crucify her for it. I rather spend my tax dollars on keeping gods children alive and cared for than spending my time and money trying to kill them. She obviously had more babies than she bargained for. They are god's children and I do not mind sharing what I have if needs be. What i do mind doing is sharing with those who have been given the chance to have children and choose to kill them instead. Why doesn't the media line all these woman up and chastise them on national T.V.....
