Gangland kidnappings and murder in Utah? This is not just a drive by shooting or heat of the moment violence. This was planned out and acted upon, the incarceration, humiliation and torture of another human. It's not sad and stupid like the officer quoted in the story alludes to, it's a completely elevated level of criminal sophistication and mental mindset. Having an 18-year old, set up his friend, and then watch him be killed is beyond words. I'm curious why they let Brown live or how he got away.
Gang members should be steralized, no sense in having any more of them running around.
If the law cannot protect its citizens from such, the day will be soon at hand when all gang members will be hunted down and destroyed.
Brown did not turn himself into the police. He was tracked down after being linked to the robberies he committed. Unfortunately, the story is written as if his alibi makes more sense than it does. It appears that Brown was an accomplice. He may have also have been a victim, but criminals often frame each other. Time will tell.
I agree, "Horrible." I am speechless.
Gang activity is becoming all too common in this valley. We need to put a stop to it. It starts with the clothing they wear. Then they start tagging or marking their territories (like dogs). Eventually it leads to fighting and violence. What are we, as a community, going to do to say we are not going to tolerate this? We need to stop it now.
Agree. Something drastic needs to be done to stop the gang violence now or there is no stopping. The slap on the wrist just doesn't cut it.
What can we as community do to make our voices heard? What action can we take to get those criminals locked up for good? The law enforcement official seem to be too worried about people leaving dogs in their car to really go after the criminals...
Gang violence isn't just a Utah problem, but a national (and even international) problem. We need to root out gangs from their "safe havens," even havens in other jurisdictions. We must relentlessly pursue those who manufacture, transport and, sell drugs to our youth. That will dry up gang's primary source of funds, making it less worthwhile to stay in business as a gang. We need to train our police in anti-gang warfare...so they can identify gangs (and gang members). We need to develop intelligence sources within gangs.
What we don't need to do is work from the viewpoint that these troubled youths are merely acting out against racial/ethnic prejudices and economic inequalities...that they need to be "helped" instead of incarcerated. In most cases, gang member are acting to take the best (easiest) opportunity open to them with little perceived downside risk. We need to vastly increase the risk of being caught and going to prison for a long time.
You say, In most cases, gang member are acting to take the best (easiest) opportunity open to them with little perceived downside risk. We need to vastly increase the risk of being caught and going to prison for a long time.---- I disagree, as they are taught and raised by families, or non functional families, and they want to be be noticed, "as family are not noticing them".. And to vastly increase being "caught" and going to prison, is wrong, as they do need to be caught and "Maybe, then FAMILIES will see where they sending them and then Family can be united as One, together helping each other, as well as nelping our fellow man...
the Jeremiah Williamson i know is a new yorker who loved to have fun, who helped me get my fresh start in Florida, who's been there when i needed a shoulder to lean on, now i sit here shaking my head because my brother is caught up in this mess. i don't know the facts, but i know in my heart of heart j didn't pull that trigger. we where not raised that way, we grew up on some mean streets , but when we moved out of state it was a bond to leave those mean streets behind. J i talked to him on Thursday and everything was cool. now on Sunday i hear you involved in a murder and i know it aint true to what it is depicted as. jeremiah , your outsiders will have your back always because we vowed to be brothers in mind and spirit. we pray for the victims involved. most importantly i pray for your innocence.
Jojo didn't deserve to die, he was such a sweet kid with a big heart. I loved Jojo, he wasn't one of the bad ones that deserved this. He had his whole life ahead of him and they stole it from him. My heart is broken that Jojo was taken from us. I was so blessed to have Jojo in my life and it just doesn't seem right that he was murdered. But through the memories that I have of him, Jojo will live in the hearts and memories of everyone that he touched and knew. We all love you Jojo and will miss you dearly.
no one deserves to die and mothers have been losing kids for the last few weeks. i really believe that we need to start sooner. in high school some of this has been going on for years with the kids.i don't see wannabees in high school, just full out members. at some point we need to get off the "not my kid" and not my town mentality. there is a lot of blamming going on, but the time for that is over. ACTIONS speak louder than words. when i see parents tatted up, I WONDER what the kids grew up with.
Just last week, protesters were slamming the legislature for trying to enact anti-gang legislation. This crime is what comes of not having such legislation. The legislature should be applauded for addressing the gang problem. Where are you protesters now?
I think Jojo should still be alive. but i also think that spencer should never had been there. i hope that everyone will one day forgive him. Spence I wish you luck but i hope you learn.
Jojo is a really nice caring person and he would do anything to make people happy no matter what it would take to do it! I don't understand why they decided for it to be my best friend to take away from everyone that really need him or loved him to death! No clue what I am going to do with out him or being able to think without thinking about how my friend was shot and killed right around where i was born and raised
Whiggy, with no respect whatsoever, I must say, you are an idiot. The legislation would have not changed a single thing in this case. The laws banned loitering of gang-members. Since loitering wasn't the issue in this case, the new law has nothing to do with this. Three words: YOU ARE IGNORANT!
Maybe now the Mormon Church will not pretend Utah's gang problem does not exist.
It's time for them to address this most serious of issues.
Can I ask what exactly this has to do with the Mormon Church? This has to do with Gangs. The Mormon church is actively involved with trying to keep their youth out of trouble and involved with wholesome activities. The church is very aware of the gang problem but has no control over individuals choices or over the government in Utah.
Please don't take a tragic situation like this and turn it into an opportunity to bash a religion.
The whole basis for this problem is hate. Don't join them with your words John Pack Lambert.
sounds like theres a lot of missing info to this story to me because I know Jeremiah Williamson he is not no killer i dont care about no confession they probably made him make, he didnt do it.
