The book industry acts like a bunch of old politicians. Just keep doing it like we did before. Look around people! How many people do you see carrying books around and how many do you see carrying laptops around? And a bookstore is a haven of leisure and luxury? What happens when gas prices go up again. I'll bet that home computers draw a bigger crowd than the mall 20 miles away.

many bookshops, especially independent ones, run blogs - but I am unconvinced that that time and effort leads to sales. And for the past several years, the trade has been trying to work out the impact of the web; the speaker comes off to me as providing shallow responses and patronising his audience.
