OOOH! A joint resolution! That will take care of the problem immediately, I'm sure.
How about enacting a "the jerk had it coming" defense to assault charges? Folks might be a little more civil if they knew their rudeness could get them popped in the snout!
Move on folks, nothing to see here.
Underlying themes seem to be that mothers and Americans are above bad or are in most cases.
Neither being true, let's move on. I wish the story was more specific on examples of bad behavior. Certainly there should be procedure and rules that allow people to speak in their turn.
One point: I have seen shouting and other manifestations of unruliness start up when people have NOT been allowed their say. For example when promised public participation and feedback in government meetings have been curtailed and reduced to farcical token levels.
After enduring 30 years of left-wing hypocrisy where tolerance is something you demand, not something you do, I am skeptical. While I believe in civil discourse, current demand for civility seems more like an extension of left-wing censorship than a real desire for understanding (because we all know that any idea that differs from popular politically correct dogma is racist, sexist and homophobic).
Hear! Hear! Ban bad behavior. Then we can work on banning bad weather, bad food, and even badness itself. I think you've got something here. Could we start by banning "Mallard"?
Oh, so when they call for people to avoid "intimidation, ridicule, personal attacks, mean spiritedness, reprisals against those who disagree...," are they referring to Chris Buttars and Gayle Ruzicka?
no - they are refering to the Human Rights Campaign and Equality Utah
"After enduring 30 years of left-wing hypocrisy where tolerance is something you demand, not something you do, I am skeptical."
What does this sentence mean? Why should we NOT demand tolerance? It seems something left-wingers do better than right-wingers. Tell us about right-wing hypocrisy, please.
"While I believe in civil discourse, current demand for civility seems more like an extension of left-wing censorship than a real desire for understanding (because we all know that any idea that differs from popular politically correct dogma is racist, sexist and homophobic)."
Absurd. Tell us about Rush, Hannity, Libby, Hagee and all the other blowhards who began the polarization of the population.
Funny you mention only right-wing people,
perfect example of left wing hypocrisy,
when you only make one-sided demands about civility,
but turn a blind eye to your own incivility and divisiness and intolerance.
LIberals are only interested in controlling the thoughts and behaviors of those they disagree with.
NOw think about why.
Why does Mr. Truth use such silly generalizations? Yes, using argument and logic sometimes gets people to change their minds - so does fairly relating the events of history. But "controlling thoughts and behaviors"? They can't even do that in prisons. It's the exchange of ideas, Mr. T., which is something your side seems pretty short on these days. Better stock up before stepping back into the marketplace.
