This is what is sad. Stories like this won't happen as frequently if the USPS cuts back their mail service to five days a week. I'm not blaming anyone for this. It's just a sign of the times. As technology advances, the personal touches are disappearing as well.
Way to go, Idaho! Michigan could take a lesson from you--a 93 year old man froze to death in his own home because nobody was checking up on him.
Thanks for going the extra mile. Restores my faith in mankind, at least a little.
My grandpa lives in Coeur dAlene, too. How grateful I am to know that there are people willing to take a moment out of their busy day to care. We don't need another Michigan tragedy!
Good people need props.
Just another reason not to allow the Postal Service to cut back on their delivery days. I'd rather pay a few more cents for each letter I mail and keep postal workers like Mr. Fish on the job.
We all need to watch out for one another; especially the elderly.
Great story, with a happy ending!
We had a great mail deliverer. She became part of our village. Everyone really liked her. She must have waked over 12 miles a day in any weather.
I would rather pay two cents more. I've never lost a package or letter.
Rush Limbaugh has made it a fad to attack workers like this mailman. I'm sure UPS lobbies conservatives. Like my grand dad would say: "If it isn't broke, don't fix it."
Being a liberal I love Americana and American traditions. The US postal office is a fine old tradition that's worth every penny.
"I felt like God must have had his hand in it to have me there and give me the feeling and the drive and determination to get it taken care of," he said.
Many denigrate those who feel God prompts them to do good deeds. Warms your heart when someone feels it and follows through.
I lived in Coeur d' Alene for over 12 years when I was younger. I also am a proud Postal Service employee that enjoys hearing stories like this. The Postal Service delivers more than letters and packages. Thank you to that great letter carrier for caring about his customers!
I am supprised that the supervisor did not write him up for taking to much time to do his route. That would be normal where I worked. you could never do anything good for your customers or the PM or superviser was all over you.
My brother is a mail carrier in Michigan and saved a woman one day when he saw her in her garage with a broken foot. She was unable to walk or call for help as she was too weak. He got an award etc etc and then the next week they were right back at him to hurry up and get the "numbers" up! It is as if the USPS doesn't really care about people but once in awhile you hear of a carrier going out of his/her way to actually help someone! They have to do it on the sly, is all!
