Cydne Mason is my hero! Well done!
Way to go ladies!! nice way to beat up lone peak......knight fans seem pretty silent.LOL......keep it going all the to the BIG DANCE.. UNSTOPABLE BABY........
Lone Peak is only .500 in their league. Not sure where the hype for their team and players is coming from but it isn't coming from their play on the court.
This is girls basketball, right? Of course all the Knights fans are silent, they worry about the real sports.
Both of the last statements are ridiculous.
AF is very very good and clearly better than Lone Peak. Lone Peak has lost some games but to top ten teams. They are still talented and proved they can compete with AF the last time they played.
It is not all about Lone Peak boys basketball. If I recall, LP took state in volleyball.
Two good teams in the toughest region in the state.
When AF was up by 30 and on a roll to put up 100 pts, Clayton pulled his starters. What was LP trying to accomplish by leaving in their starters and pressing AF JV players at the end? Was Flood trying to save the embarrassment of a 30 pt gap?
I'm not bashing LP's coach. I'm curious what he was thinking and hoping to acheive when AF put in JV players and the game was well out of reach. Any thoughts from LP's parents?
Wouldn't the parents of LP's JV players like to see them get some minutes too?
Sometimes the losing coach will leave in the starters past the "concession" point to give them a chance to regain some confidence, especially if they're young.
Please explain how region 4 is the toughest 5A region in the state. Region 3 also has 3 teams in the top 15. In head to head games involving these 6 teams region 3 holds the better record.
Lone Peak beat Kearns
Bingham beat PG
Riverton beat LP
Only looking at these 6 teams, region 4 has a record of 34-15, while region 3 has a record of 41-5. You might want to rethink your toughest region statement.
That is the best joke I have heard all day. So let me get this right. LP's starters are only as good as AF's JV team. I'll be laughing all day at that one. HA HA HA, I'm still laughing
Thanks for the insight. I can see that point of view if I were Flood.
However, I imagine Clayton thought that Flood would recriprocate the courtesy by putting in his JV players as well. The message board would be lit up with negative comments about AF if they left their starters in and hit 100 pts ... giving a chance to "regain some confidence" of older players that they can put up 100 pts on a good team. See my point?
is way overrated. Pleasant Grove lost to Brighton by 15 and they are second in the region. Most of their preseason wins are against bad Arizona teams. Timpanogos is way down. Players suspended.
Riverton beat Lone Peak easily. Region 3 has two of the top teams in 5A. Kearns has improved.
Clearly region 3 with 2 of the top 3 teams in the state is the toughest region.
From what I can read no one has claimed that LP's starters are only as good as AF's JV team. However, if the coach decides to leave in his starters for the entire game you would at least think he would call off the full court press when the opposing coach puts in his JV team.
AF played a great game and was unstoppable. They are well coached and a very good team. Much success as you go forward.
Please do not comment about State rankings, whether the LP starters were in the game or out, or whether or not JV player played. Just enjoy the fact that AF played a great game and that LP has a ways to go in developing consistency of playing a good game every time on the floor. Thanks.
Let's look at teams that can contend for the title:
Region 1: Syracuse
Region 3: Riverton, Bingham
Region 4: American Fork, Lone Peak, Pleasant Grove
Fremont and Layton will push Syracuse, but not good enough to win a state title.
Didn't see the game; but my thoughts as a basketball fan would be that AF showed some sportsmanship and also tried to give some younger players a chance to get some game experience. If I were on the lossing end; my thoughts would turn to working on things that our team would need to be more successful in the future.
As a fan of LP, the AF Girls team was awesome. They worked the LP team, shooting high percentage all over. And yes, the AF JV team was better than LP starters.
I didn't think the LP team prepared very well in either facet of the game. LP has some good players but poorly designed offense and defensive sets.
If AF plays like this all the time no one will beat them! Congrats to you. I enjoyed watching the way your team plays and competes.
teams are good enough to win state. AF, Bingham, Riverton and Syracuse. Pleasant Grove and Lone Peak aren't capable of winning any more than Fremont or Layton.
It is nice to see the respect and sportmanship from LP fans to AF. Thank you! Must be from parents who understand the game and appreciate what both teams are trying to accomplish.
LP has some great players who will play in college and the TEAM showed how good they can play on any given night the first time they played AF. I expect LP to finish 3rd in Region 4, go to State, and then who knows, anything can happen on any given night.
Girls 5A basketball in general is down this year compared to last year. Region 4 is no exception. They are considerably down from last year. Region 4 teams showed during last year's State tourney play that they were the best overall region and I think fans are carrying that over to this year. But, I wouldn't say Region 4 is the best region this year. Each region seems to have one strong team (exception Bingham)then the remaining teams are very average.
I'd have to do some homework to create an argument of who is the best region right now. But, it's not important enough to me so I won't! We'll see soon enough at State.
I think I am reading you right but are you saying that Bingham isn't strong or their region has 2 good teams? My personal opinion is that from top to bottom, both region 1 and 2 have the most parity. There are really only 2 teams that have a real chance to win the whole thing with that being Riverton and American Fork. Bingham is next but they are not near as good as those 2.
