I still remember when I heard the news that our Prophet President Hinckley had passed on to the other side. I was heartbroken as I loved this great
man. But then I thought of him being with his dear
wife and parents and I felt better. He was a wonderful example to the world and he honored the
Savior in his actions. I still miss him and am thankfulfor his leadership and love for all mankind.
Thank You for this article.
He has been dead for a whole year. Move on already.
I worry that many members of the LDS faith a focusing way too much attention on a deceased prophet and not nearly enough on the current living one. Frankly the tributes, blogs, motion pictures, books etc. are way over the top. If Gordon Hinkley were to speak to us I think he'd say "what is wrong with you?" and I am sure he'd be embarassed by the overexposure.
He was a wonderful man who led our Church with diligence and kindness. If we truly understand the eternal nature of God's plan we know that he has moved on to another existence where he continues his work.
Thomas Monsen is the leader of the Church here on the earth now...don't you all think that he needs our attention now? After all, we sustain him as a living prophet...it's time to get to work and stop living in the past.
Wow, what a bunch of hypersensitive posts. There is nothing wrong with honoring our deceased prophet one year after his death. Reflection upon an anniversary is completely within the norms of culturally acceptable behavior. Nothing that has been or will be said about President Hinkley detracts from the current prophet. Half the members of this church haven't listened to a thing either of them have said anyway. Great writing Em, keep it up.
I agree with you Joel... there is nothing wrong with remembering the anniversary of the death of our prophet.
I agree with both Joel and mystictraveler. I am not still mourning his death, but I don't think there is anything wrong with remembering him on the anniversary of his death. I lost my mother-in-law 8 years ago and always on the day she died we talk about the wonderful person she was and are so glad she is now in Heaven with those who passed on before her.
We listen to and follow Pres Monson, our current prophet. But there is nothing wrong with remembering Pres Hinckley... in fact we are supposed to. His counsel and example is still relevant today, as are other prophets lessons, who've already passed on. These men served to the fullest, and we would be irresponsible and ungrateful to not remember them and their teachings. We love you and miss you Pres Hinckley!
The new Salt Lake City Conference Center is a standing tribute to the late President Gordon B. Hinckley.
If it wasn't for his unique personality that building and many of the new Temples would probably not exist. He's the one who saw the vision of benefit of church expansion in the expansion of the building of new places to Worship the LORD.
He left a Great Legacy of getting things done:
Not only in the Physical Realm BUT ALSO in the
Things of the Spiritual Realm too.
It's Good to reflect on the contribution of those
who passed-on leaving a trail of
Good and Great Accomplishments...
Long live the memory of President Gordon B. Hinckley.
What good does it do? Nothing. Jesus said Let the dead bury (and remember) the dead. God is a God of the living.
Move on.
President Hinckley!! I loved him and am particularly appreciative of the new DVD about his life and the realness of his life and the good he did, even as a child he was a typical six year old. Who cannot relate to that? His example lives on, as does that of Joseph Smith, and is anyone tired of that? NO!! President Monson is our Prophet now and a tribute to Pres. Hinckley in no way takes away nor detracts from him as our current leader. President Hinckley really impacted our lives for good over the years and his influence will continue nevertheless. I am very impressed with President Monson and his concern for ALL people in all conditions or places. He carries the mantel and is respectful of the individual. I love his sense of humor. Recently, he had his picture taken with my oldest son, an Army official and asked Pres Monson if he would mind his picture taken with him. He said "No, not if you don't mind I was a Navy man." You have to love him for his sense of humor and a great leader!!
BYU rocks. Utes done in overtime!
