Marjorie - Certainly Joe Biden, and his propensity for candid talk, will add fodder to the late night comic monologues and the occasionally to the op-eds. But let's be clear in stating that Joe's sometimes insensative remarks can't hold a candle to those of our former Vice President (think "My belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators.") in terms of seriousness and blunder.

Just wondering, how many critical op-eds did you write about Vice president Cheney?
Stand Up Joe! | 6:41 a.m. Jan. 27, 2009
Joe is a shining example of the best our nation's political system has to offer.

In the true spirit of J.Danforth Quayle.....oh, wait a minute, Quayle mis-spelled a word, got the deer in the headlights look in a debate when Lloyd Benson dressed him down, and was a favorite target and whipping boy for the liberal media and comedians thereafter. A different VP indeed!

Biden has nothing to worry about. He gets a pass from the media every time. That "get out of Quayleville free" card certainly extends to his family members.

During the campaign Joe's cases of "foot in mouth" disease were the stuff of legend. But that's okay, after all its just Joe being Joe, right!!!

Contrast "our" Joe to "Joe the Plumber", a private citizen who, when approached by the messiah, did not genuflect and dared ask a tough question. We all know, though many will not admit, the witch hunt treatment the biased liberal media and others gave him.

Let's hope for national security sake Joe's pie hole develops some discipline before a gawff really does do some damage.

So stand up Joe - we love ya, darnit!

Have you talked to anyone that's been in Iraq?
I have and they, without exception, say that the Iraqi people in general are thrilled to have US there. They are naming their kids after our service men. They are free from the leadership of a nmurdering terrorist.
Although I'm not a big fan of "our former Vice-President," he's right on this one, we are being viewed as liberators. The only ones that don't believe that are the liberal media and the sponges that believe what they are being told by them.

7:56 - I have personal acquaintenances who have served in Iraq and they have served with honor, like all the soldiers that have served there. Some have been seriously wounded and some have watched their buddies die. And like most loyal soldiers they will not speak negatively about their superior officers. But they have described despicable conditions brought on, in part, by the lack of planning and foresight of the Bush Administration, primarily Rumsfeld and Cheney, and their shortsighted and naive belief that our soldiers would enter Baghdad on a bed of roses.

This was but one of Cheney's statements that should have been subject to the DN editor's disdain. When asked to comment on the fact that 2/3 of the American people opposed the war in Iraq he answered simply "So?" No!, our foreign policy should not be dictated by popular public opinion but did he really have that much contempt for the citizens of this nation to answer "So?" His ignorance is only surpassed by his arrogance. Now that's something to write about.

I don't know . . . but . . . doesn't that picture of Joe remind you of Sylvester, the cat, with Tweety-bird in his mouth?

Obama's choice of Biden as his running mate shows his lack of good judgement. I just hope he learns from this bad mistake.

Re: Robert, It looks like there are some major mistakes everywhere we look nowadays. I wonder if things will ever be normal? The smile on this Biden's face says it all, and more than I can comprehend.

Sylvester, heck! Its More like Winnie the Pooh.

So Biden had his pick of VP or Sec of State? I can't help wonder what Biden has on Obama. It's obvious Biden is no statesman, and his selection as VP casts doubt on Obama's judgment as well.
I like Biden | 2:58 p.m. Jan. 27, 2009
Thought he was impressive in the debate with Palin, although just about anyone could make her look dumb.
Donna Hughes | 3:12 p.m. Jan. 27, 2009
Well I can see by the slanted way you write your article that you are just out to bash Joe Biden. Even the picture you chose was carefully taken from a frame to catch him in an unbecoming expression.

As to John Roberts, someone should have slapped him up along side of his head for screwing up the oath of office during the inauguration! Apparently he was too arrogant to take a cue card like many do, just in case the distractions interfere with their memories at these important events.

Unlike so many of you people, Joe Biden is a valuable asset to Obama and this country. He is known to many leaders in the world whom we deal with, and has their respect. You might take a cue from them!

yeah, its okay for a Journalist to bash someone, but if some blogger does it, then it is mean and hateful. Makes no sense.

veedub,

"So Biden had his pick of VP or Sec of State? I can't help wonder what Biden has on Obama. It's obvious Biden is no statesman, and his selection as VP casts doubt on Obama's judgment as well."

Obama offering Biden both the Vice Presidency and the Secretary of State position was because he was exceptionally qualified for both and would have made a great Vice President or Secretary of State. Obama knew this and decided to allow Biden to make the decision about what the best fit was for him and his family at that time in their life.

Many businesses and companies do the same thing. They will interview a prospective candidate for a specific position, determine that they are a good fit for multiple positions and extend an offer for them to choose one of several different positions at their company. The way Obama approached Biden's selection demonstrates business acumen that you don't possess. Had he simply offered the Vice Presidency or Secretary of State positions Biden could have turned down either one and then it would be awkward to offer the other as if it was a pity offer.

Biden would certainly make one heck of president for the USA. I am truly impressed with this fellow. maybe he will have a chance at it in 4 years. I'll sure vote for the guy.
LVIS | 9:59 a.m. Jan. 28, 2009
He was not offered both positions. Both positions were discussed by the Obama team, but only one ended up being offered to Biden.
Roger S. | 12:16 p.m. Jan. 28, 2009
Marjorie forgot to mention the following:

1. As a student, Biden was almost expelled from the Syracuse University Law School when a professor caught him plagiarizing on a term paper. His paper consisted of 6 type-written pages, 5 of which were lifted word for word from an article published in the Fordham Law Review.

2. As a presidential candidate in 1988, he was caught during the Iowa primary campaign using statements from a stirring speech by British politician, Niel Kinnock, to describe his own family and childhood. For example, while Kinnock had described his family as coal miners who worked in the mines for 10 hours each day and played soccer in the evenings, Biden said his ancestors worked in the coal mines all day and then played baseball in the evenings. When caught, Biden dropped out of the race.

In addition to what Marjorie describes, these two examples show serious character flaws in our current vice president.

LIVS: do you have information that Mrs. Biden dosent? She is the one that made the statement thet her husband had his choise of either office.

Grinning | 2:20 p.m. Jan. 28, 2009
Gotta love Biden's smile.
Love it.. | 9:24 p.m. Jan. 28, 2009
Yeah, where did get that smile? Its a real winners smile.
Tweety-Bird | 10:18 a.m. Jan. 29, 2009
Biden's smile looks like a Mormon grin to me. I think its time that the LDS church started looking into sending the Mormon missionaries out to Mr. Biden. I see conversion written all over that face.
Good guy Biden | 9:23 p.m. Jan. 29, 2009
FYI Biden is a devout Catholic and well loved by his constituents. Biden's wife's statement was well reported in the media. Does the Deseret News ever report critically on Republicans? I heard the other day Cheney rewrote the tax cut bill unbeknowst to Bush. Apparently Bush was not in favor of capital gains tax cuts but Cheney wrote it into the bill. Bush probably wouldn't have been such a failure as a Pres. if only he had gotten rid of Cheney and Rumsfeld (sooner).
Biden | 9:50 p.m. Jan. 29, 2009
Will someone please ask him where we will get the money to pay for this "bailout"? He won't take my phone calls!
re: Biden | 9:18 a.m. Jan. 30, 2009
Where we will get the money to pay for this "bailout"? The same place we got the money for the invasion of Iraq.
Re: Re: Biden | 6:10 p.m. Jan. 30, 2009
I realize I am wasting my time here, but I feel I must try to explain the war in Iraq to you. For a decade Al Qaida had attacked and murdered innocent people all over the world and nobody did anything to stop them! Iraq had to happen because someone needed to stop Al Qaida! They are the bad guys who strap bombs onto themselves and fly airplanes into buildings to murder innocent people. We are fighting and beating Al Qaida in Iraq! Yes, we really are! Where would you suggest we fight them? In California? Al Qaida drew the line in the sand in Iraq and said here we defeat the great satan and terrorists from all over went there to win the war.Iraq has become the watershed event in the war on terror and has demonstrated how to defeat them and where! Iraq is a defensive war! Wait until (not if) they get their hands on a nuke! What will it take to convince you? 300K murdered? How about 3M.? Will that convince you? We are in Iraq win freedom from terrorists, your freedom to live and not be Muslim. Please try to open your mind!
