ARL

Alternative Route to Licensure is what the legislature is allowing to fill the need for teachers. Charter schools are full of them. They have no training in the field of education (sometimes they've subbed or volunteered, so they think this exposure will prepare them to take over a class). They teach children during the day and take education courses at night. Would you send your child to a doctor or dentist who had no training but was getting it after your child saw them? That's what kids with an ARL teacher have - an education by a non-professional teacher.

Utah needs to pay teachers a professional salary and treat them with the respect other professionals receive. Then there would be no teacher shortage and no need for ARLs.

This is the strangest thing I have ever heard of. Howell valley needs a school and deserves a school. I'm sorry but Tremonton is not 12 miles away more like 20 miles away. The disrict has dropped the ball, get a certified Teacher out there . I'm sure there are plenty of teachers out there looking for work.

I fully support the addition of any charter schools that could provide me with an alternative to the education my child is getting from Box Elder Middle School.
As it stands she currently has an English teacher with a public blog where she mocks the work her students do and even their physical features and the teacher refers to her employer as "big brother." When I look at the timing of these posts, they are all done during school hours. It's bad enough that they failed the AYP for English last year, but to continue to pay any salary to teachers like this is beyond me.
This is just another example of our town dropping the ball and not putting the quality of the education our children are getting first, IMO.
