Another stupid Idea from Utah
We can owe these problems to the Republican party
4 days in office and Obama is being crushed with to many ideas

It is hrd to put money into the Parks system, since most minorities do not go, nor do they even know what a National Park is. (we go each year to one of the parks, and rarely, seriously folks, do you see a person of color, unless Asians are included) The government puts these funds into the touchy, feely area, adds a new program now and then, and they feel better about it. Meanwhile, the infrastructure of this nation goes down the tube.

Dave

This will do nothing to help the economy as it creates no permanent jobs. Simply spending money we do not have is insane.

Craig

The solution is to raise the entrance fee. That will bring in more revenue and lower demand at the same time. The parks should be self supporting. The answer to every problem is not to pull more money out of taxpayers pockets.

Matheson really knows how to work the media.

Priorities

First things come first. Last time I checked our parks have almost nothing to do with our economy. Our economy is suffering Mr. Matheson. You have a stable paying job that allows you to live a comfortable life. Many of us DO NOT HAVE THAT right now! We need things to help stimulate real meaningful jobs. I don't want one single red penny to go to our National Parks when our NATIONAL ECONOMY IS IN RUIN OR NEAR THE BRINK OF IT!

Mr. Matheson

I will continue to support the liberal democratic movement be appealing to the emotions of americans and not getting bogged down in any argument that actually makes sence. May I remind you it is the governments responsibility to makes its people dependent on its government. The power and future lies in the government and not in the poeple.

Geezer

Matheson has a good idea here. The Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s built many of the national park facilities we enjoy today in the older parks such as Yellowstone, Yosemite and Crater Lake. It created jobs and laid the foundation for park tourism ever since.

Fed Up

Bleive it or not, tourism is a significant contributor to Utah's economy and millions of people come from all over the world to visit the parks each year.

have to agree with Fed Up, we had an excellent system of parks and infrastructure, it's gone! Years of deregulation and ignoring the domestic needs have created a mess!

Tourist not a priority yet.

National parks should be free to use and no fees to visit them. They should not be developed with buildings or restaruants or other ameneties that change the natural look of them. They should be patroled to aid others and make users responsible for their clean up but that's all a national park needs. Responsible campers should remove their own waste and leave them as they are found. Utah's only industry is tourism, and for the next few years tourism in every form will be declining so why waste money on meaningless spending? In a national crises where government is over extended in debt and no funds where does he think the money will come from? The department of engraving and printing, the money factory? The days of good faith money and debt needs recalibration and restructing before we start spending rampantly. The word for the decade is 'cut' spending. The party is over. Matheson should be more concerned about our federal budget, not Utah's.

Leonardo

When you visit Bryce, notice all of the foreign faces. The national parks pull lots of money from well-heeled foreign nationals into Utah. Fix the Dinosaur Quarry first; it used to pull 300,000 people a year to northeastern Utah, but now is closed and forlorn. With the gas and oil spike declining (as it inevitably will, since there is a finite amount of this non-renewable resource), Vernal and Uintah County and Utah are going to miss all those visitor dollars. Because of course, the entrance fee is just a pittance; the real money is in food, lodging, souvenirs and what not that visitors buy.

the truth

Typical liberal policy:

spend, spend, spend!

How about cut cut cut for once?!

the truth

Federal parks are nice,

However, they are not a necessity.

Mike

you guys are ridiculous. putting money into parks creates jobs in the parks and should help numerous small businesses as people travel to visit the parks. as an added bonus parks are giant green spaces and give people a reason to care about their environment. all i hear most people saying is that liberal morons want to spend spend spend. this is not an argument. you cant just take this money elsewhere and poof new high paying jobs for every joe in town. you need a viable industry in which to create the new jobs. tourism is such an industry. the only true necessities in life are food water and shelter. the only argument against this measure that makes sense is that the government should not be spending at all because they are in debt. but to say that this is erroneous spending and we should spend on necessities doesnt make sense to me. unless youre saying that this money should go to welfare and gov. funded housing? schools and roads maybe. but whats the point of being smart with nothing to joy and nice roads but nowere worth going?
