First!
All I know is I live in SoCal, and I saw every BYU game this past season. If I want it, I can get it. Anything else is gravy.
Good grief. If you want the Mtn., get DirecTV. It's better overall than Dish anyway, especially for sports fans. Why do people have to be told things like this? Get DirecTV, support them for putting on the Mtn., if that is what you want.
Easy ... all the diehard fans that were screaming from the rooftops have jumped to DTV and signed a two year committment.
Smart of DTV...too bad for DISH.
Personally, I preferred DISH...but I have sunk too much into DTV now to worry about whether DISH picks it up or not.
I've lived in N.C. for 20 years and got along fine with listening or watching BYU every chance I got. Now, to see all the games would be great, but it ain't like water. If you go longer than 7 days you die.
I agree completely with the Dish subscriber in the article. I'm a Dish subscriber and for various reasons (mostly economical) I'm not interested in switching. And to be honest, since this whole .mtn debackle I'm frankly not interested much in BYU sports anymore. I used to be die-hard, but I guess as they say, out of sight...out of mind.
First off- Calm Down
Second off- did you read his points? He has sunk $500 into his Dish system and would have to do it again if he switched. Would YOU do that? YOUR attitude is exactly the point of the article.
It goes beyond whether or not Ute fans want to switch over to get the channel. It is all about the 15 million Dish homes, many of which belong to potential recruits, coaches and national media who aren't going to switch to DirecTV just so they can decide if they want to go to a school, or if they think Utah is worthy of being voted #1. Recruits get excited about going to a school where their friends and family can watch them. What is a stud RB from Texas going to think when he asks Whittingham if his friends and family can watch him on TV every week, and he is told, well, yes, but only if they have DirecTV.
The problem isn't just coverage---it's the quality, too, which has everything to do with image. No HD is part of the image issue, as well as bad camera work and dud announcers.
As long as the MWC is perceived to have most all of its games being covered in this way, recruiting will continue to be affected.
Really? If my son is at Utah playing football I would pay for DirecTV. And don't try telling me recruiting is done on TV and that college scouts can't afford DirecTV. Your reasoning is why the MWC gets no respect. All these posts seem to be coming from rednecks who can't keep a job. If you want to watch your team, then sign up for DirecTV or stop your complaining. You all just want it for free. Well college sports are all about money so get used to it. Can you go to a game for free....NO
What does everyone in Utah make minimum wage? The games are available if you just pay for them. Sports aren't free. You pay to go to a middle school game. You pay to go to a Marching band competition. You pay for everything in life. Get used to it.
Give me a break. You think parents in Texas and California can't afford $50 a month for DirecTV? That's funny. Again Utah fans living in a bubble. And to the guy who already spent $500, not too smart to invest all your savings in one place. Diversify. Give me a break.
I finaly gave up on Dish, and it only cost me $19.99 to get 2 rooms installed to DirecTV, and I never paid $500 in my 12 years of DISH, not counting the mobnthly fee.
I agree with BlueBoy that the quality of the programing is not the best, but at least I get the games now. Dish was nasty about my leaving, but I survived the confrontational attitude and am happy -- except for the Channel 14 issue, which I blame on them. So I miss 8 games, at least I get about 50 others on FSN, so c'mon Millers. I would like to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
Best move I made was from Dish to DirectTV. Programming is more to my liking and price is less. I have over 100 movies stored on my DVR plus the BYU football games (which I cannot bear to watch) again. I was told my DVR is accessable to an additional hard drive but haven't tried it yet. When I changed to DirectTV, the Dish representative told me that Dish was probably years away from any agreement with the Mtn. So be it. I'm happy with
DirectTV.
Would you also like a free lunch?
I guess Comcast is the only solution for local fans who want it all. Go with Dish and you lose the Mtn. Go with DirectTV and you lose KJZZ. Neither satelite provider carries all of the local sports.
Isn't the MTN offered on cable in the area that surrounds TCU? I thought that was part of the deal.
Oh well, DirecTV is better anyway. For a hockey fan like myself, I didn't have to pay extra to get VS or the NHL network. The MTN is just a bonus.
Still can't get The Mtn. back here in Philly. The only Ute/MWC games we can watch here are on Vs. CBS-Sports, FSN, and the ESPN channels. In other words, I got to see the Utes play Michigan, Oregon St, TCU, and Alabama. That's it! Too bad. I heard the Utah-tdS game was AWESOME!
Do without sports for a 3 month period and you will find many other interests and will relate better to your family. I know it sounds tough, but you will survive. The MTN forced me to give up Utah and BYU sports except for the few games I see in person and guess what? After the initial cold sweats and shakes I have found my blood pressure returning to normal, more quality time with my wife and kids and realize that it doesn't really matter. Try it, they will miss you more than you miss them...I GUARANTEE it!!!
I don't know about the BYU fan who gets the Cougar here in SoCal, but I sure as heck can't get the Mighty Utes except sometimes on Versus..so no SoCAL exposure at least on Verizon Fios.
Hmmmm
Aren't we glad the Aggies won't join the mighty MWC with their stupid TV deal.
