I see he was in good company,Rove,Gonzo, and where was Rummy?
I am one of the Utahns that admires President Bush. I know you made some mistakes but you are a good man and I appreciate the efforts you made since 9/11. You did exactly what needed to be done at that time. I am one American who is thankful you kept our country free from terrorists these eight years. I am sorry we have had to lose those who have fought for this freedom but I know it had to be done. You can definatley hold your head high. There are those of us who appreciate your service. Thank you!
I'm a conservative and voted for Bush twice. I also felt great frustration and anger over some of the decisions he made. However, he did his best, did what he thought was right and served this country faithfully for 8 years. I find it disgusting the treatment he received from the inaugural crowd. As much as I couldn't stand Bill Clinton, I wouldn't have condoned that sort of behavior towards him as Bush was inaugurated. It's so sad that people have no sense of decorum and dignity. We can disagree with each other without being ruthless and mean. Ultimately we are all human beings and want the same things--but we'll never get there with continued divisive/partisan behavior. Bush is not perfect and will not be my favorite president in history, but he deserved better than that.
I think future generations will look back on Pres Bush and recognize the incredible job he did protecting our country from foreign enemies.
Thank you Mr. President for serving.
Want a little cheese with that whine?
Jeering a man who has his faults but kept us safe since 911.....even jeering his wife.
Just like when the "frat crowd" that trashed the White House at the end of the Clinton Administration, too many democrats simply have no class.
Who among you will defend jeering as acceptable behavior?
They've been fed a steady diet of nearly constant whining from their leaders and the media since the election was "stolen" from Mr. Global Warming, and the "ignorant masses" fell for all that whining hook, line, and sinker.
Think for yourself - don't let someone else dictate your agenda and manipulate your thoughts. Also grow up; show some humility and maturity.
Having three degrees from BYU and living half my life in the state, I consider myself quite conservative. That point being noted, I nonetheless marvel that Bush is thought of so highly in Utah.
Time will demonstrate that the man will be viewed as one of the five or six most unsuccessful presidents in US history. We are now a nation ranked among the second tier in the world educationally. America's image has been tarnished by the Bush presidency in the international arena. Bush was held in ridicule among many nations of the world.
I wish the man well. I have concerns about Obama, but he is now our president and I also wish him well. Obama will be much more likely to make education a priority. He will improve the US image abroad.
We are a nation of hope. We are a nation that works! God bless George Bush, and help him to enjoy his remaining years -- but I am tremendously relieved that he is finally out of the White House.
He was a dismal president.
Yes, I too am a Republican, and I voted for George W. Bush in 2000, and I was happy to see him win over Al Gore. I believed in him and his methods, and I was encouraged by the way he handled 9/11, and the hope he inspired in each of us. I did not agree with going to war with Iraq, and I still don't, and for this reason, and many others, I could not vote for him in 2004, but voted instead for his then rival John Kerry, and I was disappointed when he lost. However, this time I voted for his rival Barack Hussein Obama, and I am glad he won the election, I was in tears on election night. It was such an awesome night to watch Barack become the 44th president of the United States of America. God bless America, and God bless both former President G.W. Bush and President Obama.
I missed the part where george did stuff that 'kept us safe'. We weren't attacked, but that is a testament to the disorganisation and probably sheer lack of anyone who really wanted to attack us on home turf. Certainly the war of occupation in Iraq didn't keep us safe. It did, however, help get us broke. I am glad this era is over.
If being President was easy then more people should run since they can do better. Yes he made mistakes and errors, just like any of us. But look at what he had to deal with I just don't think he blew those off as casually as people think. Thank you Mr. Bush for your years of service the best way you knew how and my best wishes to President Obama.
To my confused friend "It's Over", who declared,"We weren't attacked, but that is a testament to the disorganisation and probably sheer lack of anyone who really wanted to attack us on home turf." Do you believe the terror network that successfully pulled off 9/11 suddenly became "disorganized" on 9/12/01? Do you believe there was a sudden lack of commitment on the part of those who hate the U.S.? Your analysis of the years since 9/11 shows either total blindness caused by either hatred of GWB or stupidity. You might consider pulling your head out of the sand, or whereever it is that is keeping you in the dark.
Unlike Bill Clinton, George W. Bush possesses integrity. He did not wet his finger and hold it in the air each morning to see where he stood on what issues. Yes, he kept us safe from another terrorist attack. He was an honest President. It is sad how many Americans, including members of Congress, have treated this President. Now President Obama is in charge. He is continuing to have a love fest with the news media (of which there are no more journalists). I hope he serves our country well. Time will tell.
I voted for Bush the first time, he was a horrible President who was in over his head and I voted for Kerry the second time and Obama this time.
In regards to the booing and jeering how can one be surprised ? Bush refused to have press conferences and take tough questions, Bush refused to take questions from Helen Thomas, I mean come on , was Bush that big of a baby where you cannot take a tough question ?
Bush would not go anywhere where he would not hear what he wanted to hear, he lacked the courage to walk into a venue where all opposed his views and make the case, therefore nobody had a chance to express their opinion and anger with the man. Yesterday was the first and last chance for the common working people who were truly hurt by this man and his party to express anger and they did. You reap what you sow and it was a painful sight to see, lesson to be learned for everyone. Very sad.
Robert Gates.
You no-class libs can badmouth Bush all you want.
But when Barack Obama became responsible for the safety and security of the free world he chose George Bush's Secretary of Defense and adopted George Bush's policies in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Actions speak louder than words. Grow up already.
If you think Iraq got us broke, what do you think of a trillion + dollar stimulus package President Obama is planning?? It's a shame people just parrot what they hear in the media rather than do their own homework.
President Bush wasn't always right, but I for one LOVED having a president who stuck to his guns, made hard decisions, didn't back down, and never, ever ran his administration based on opinion polls. He did what he thought was right, and he's stated he would have done some things differently if he had the chance. He did his best.
In short, I would hope all Americans would treat President Bush with the same grace and respect they have shown President Obama. One thing Pres Obama hasn't learned yet is just how fickle public opinion can be. But as our President he deserves our respect. So does President's Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Carter.
There's your problem, you have 3 degrees from BYU. I sincerely hope they are not in history!
In the real world, lumping George Bush in with Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, and Jimmy Carter -- or even Bill Clinton -- would only make you look silly.
The reason America is ranked in the second tier educationally has nothing to do with the President or the presidency.
It's the quality of educators that determines our rank. And the fact that BYU pumped out a Dr. with your lack of sense illustrates my premise.
We have a second-tier educational system because we have third or fourth-tier educators that are so preoccupied with grants, research, tenure, and recognition that they've forgotten why we, the taxpayers, set them up in sumptuous offices and pay them outrageous salaries -- to teach our kids!
Only when educators remember their duty, and start doing it, will our educational system improve.
Dear President Bush,
I thank you with all of my heart for having the desire, courage, motivation, and determination to lead our country for the past eight years. I travel the world on business, including Europe, and you have always made me proud to be an American as you truly understand what America means and what it means to be an American. Thank you for keeping me and my family safe for these past seven years, despite the ignorance and misguided efforts of those adversaries who sought to destroy you in vain. Thank you for never compromising your American values and principles despite what must have seemed at times to be almost unbearable criticism and pressure. Of course, I know as you know, that God granted you His strength as you served our country. May God keep all of us safe as Americans as we enter a new chapter in history clouded by polls rather than principles.
i was as well disapointed in the crowds that showed such a lack of respect towards the office of president when Bush and his wife said goodbye. If people think Obama is going to get good ratings just wait a year or two and the media will be turned on him as will the country who believes everything the media puts in front of us. it's too bad that this is the world we live in.
I guess when Obama puts on the shoes of Bush, we will see if he can walk in them. I personally have a great amount of gratitude for President Bush and don't feel I have any room to criticize him knowing the tremendous amount of stress he must have been under running our Nation at this time of great turmoil and survival! I'm am so saddened by the booing and chanting that was present for President Bush of which I can't believe anyone would be a part of, and I can't believe how low and ungrateful we can be for a man that literally brought us through these last 8 years safe and alive. Unfortunately, we all have very short memories.
I did not care much for Bush's administration (voted for him in 2000, against in 04), but either way, he's the President and deserves a modicum of respect. I wouldn't ever boo him in public, no matter how much I disagreed with him (or found him to be disagreeable).
After taking on a Herculean task for the past eight years in one of the toughest eras of American History, former President and Mrs. Bush deserve our heartfelt praise and thanks. His integrity and moral strength in such a difficult time were incredible, especially considering the way that the media drug his name through the mud.
Considering how few details concerning national security the people of the United States possess, we are VERY quick to judge. Fortunately for us, President Bush made tough decisions that resulted in the exportation of freedom to other parts of the world. I'm just grateful that the French people were willing to allow their sons to come die in the United States in 1775 so that we might be free.
